And yeah thats lame. but good luck with that

uhhh still trying to write this song and still only have like a minute's worth of sound; its like i reach a point where i cant push the idea any more what do you giyus do in the situation?

Try your absolute hardest to do something that you wouldn't normally do. Rhythm, melody, key change, song structure, anything. I find that when I get stuck writing a song it's because I feel like it's too "me" (if that makes any sense) so you just gotta step out of your "you" boundary.

Also, record what you have done and listen back to it and just think what would sound good next. It's easier to think ahead in the songwriting process if you're not playing as you're hearing it.

I noticed with those few tracks you sent me that you had a tendency to do this.

It's really ****ing difficult, something I have a phenomenal amount of trouble with. I'm never happy with a track until it's at least 3 minutes in length, I always prefer to try and shift dynamics then make it overly repetitive (though I did make a 49 minutes long noise track once). As a result I have only ever made 3 full tracks, and about 30-40 sound experiments I can't quite figure out what to do with.

Try thinking of inventive ways to blend tracks you already have, or just keep refining them until some inspiration strikes you to where you should take it. I find teaching myself new programs and reading through VST d0cumentation manuals often gives me some ideas to play around with. As honeydutchautopsy said as well, always try and push the envelope out of your comfort zone a little.

It's all trial and error, no doubt.

Stormrider 06-18-2009 08:40 PM

Lately, I just write down single ideas that I come up with that I really like. Eventually I'll work on them from there.

Full songs I did in the past were kinda gay anyway save a few parts haha.
dont you have some slightly confuzzled sea lion to be chompin botb
haha

SKUDstorm 06-18-2009 08:41 PM

i enjoy playing the drums occasionally but i find that i lack the creative ability to come up with ****. maybe its just because i dont know enough techniques and theory and stuff.

Meatplow 06-18-2009 08:44 PM

being economical about what you've got to work with seems to be the way to do it
ive only played fallout 3 and i didnt like it at all. whats the original like compared to it?
well i havent' played much fallout 3, but from what ive seen it's a first person shooter. the original is sort of a top down rpg, the pictures on the back of the box closely resemble something like diablo mixed with baldurs gate, except in the post apocalyptic setting. real old school

SKUDstorm 06-18-2009 09:08 PM

that sounds like on bad *** game. def gonna look into that now
