Sweet. I learned Kissing the Shadows a while back, but it's been a while since I've played it so I should probably brush up. Follow the Reaper looked pretty intriguing too, so I start with those two. Thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah probably, it's not something that's that easy.
I should really post a recording of my playing sometime. I guitar talent (or lack thereof) is like an enigma around these parts.
Yup, we've been waiting for ages. |

That might be the most aggravating thing I've seen/heard in a while. Sorry. |

Dude, so I decided I wunna be mallcore when I grow up! So the first step was ripping my korn, ill nino, fear factory and five minute ride(post hardcore band I saw live twice in Sac, good too). I figure, why be an elitist with so little to work with? If I enjoy all these genres, there's more to be elitist over! |
Yeah, why be an elitist when you totally fucking suck at it?
|
Yeah, why be an elitist when you totally fucking suck at it?
To prompt the terrible attempts at trolling from the guitarist of a Thine Eyes Bleed knockoff. |
Are you talking about me or Matt?
If you're talking about me I really don't give a damn, seeing as how my now ex-band bears no resemblance to Thine Eyes Bleed at all, and seeing as how you were saying both our bands "totally rocked" a couple weeks ago. Yeah, I quit WAT today. As did our drummer and bass player. |

TEB nor WAT was metalcore, IMO Both struck me as more of the "american melodic death" although TEB is canadian actually. 2. I was replying to ICB, so most likely Trevor, your charming self. 3. Ehh. I think you're talented. I was listening to the WAT tune on myspace last night and I couldn't help but hear TEB at the same time. 4. I guess I'll wait and hear your new bands stuff. 5. How much was Dean dominating your sound? |
5. How much was Dean dominating your sound?
Dean's been playing for 2 years, ok... first thing when I joined the band, he said "Don't write anything too hard for me to play". He also recorded ALL of my rhythm parts on the 7-song EP...all wrong, as well. "Cover My Eyes" is pretty much the only WAT song I've written completely, and I've even toned THAT song down because I don't want any bitching about "oh it's too hard", which is really stupid, yeah, but you have no idea how much Dean sucks and doesn't want to improve. Buried In Ashes...just picture an old CoB-esque band with more progressive and more melodic leanings.
I couldn't help but hear TEB at the same time
Wow, that's weird. I have never really listened to them, aside from the time WAT played a show with them and even then the sound was horrible.
2. I was replying to ICB, so most likely Trevor, your charming self.
Why'd you start a band with someone who's of such lackluster skill? I mean, if you and the rest of guys are so far above him. Isn't he kinda holding back what you're capable of?
He also recorded ALL of my rhythm parts on the 7-song EP...all wrong, as well.
Why did he do your parts? btw. Define wrong? They played very well when I saw them, but their mixing was just a wall of sound. I didn't mean in terms of riff rip offs or w/e. The sound just brought that too mind and sounded like something off a TEB record. That's how it struck me, that's all I can say. I like TEB, btw. NP actually. |

I didn't start a band with him, I joined said band because for the time being, that band was the only band that didn't want to play breakdowns/wank chords 24/7 and I thought maybe I could help progress said lackluster skills. And yes, he was holding back what we were capable of. Immensely.
Why did he do your parts? btw. Define wrong?
Because he's a douche. and by wrong, I mean he played my parts that I wrote extremely wrong. I heard the recordings and I said "dude you're playign that wrong, if you're going to play my parts, at least play them RIGHT or I'll re-record them myself" (since I couldn't really bitch because it's Dean's band he wants to be Dave Mustaine blablabla)...and he said "OK, I'll re-record it". Well when it came down to that time, he just said "oh well we'll keep what we have". Douchebaggery.
I don't know which song I heard, it was the one on myspace. And the stuff I write...I wouldn't say it is hard because I'm used to playing, I've been playing just about 7 years so some things come natural to me when writing. But to an intermediate, it may provide a challenge, because I usually write more "complex" metal, not dumbed down 80's buttrock.
If you've got tunes and one, myspace linkage?
I have some guitar tracks laid down on my friend's Pandora 4-track just so I can remember it and give it to the rest of the guys to look at and think over, but we haven't got anything recorded YET. Maybe in the next few months. We do have a myspace right now though, which seems kinda pointless but oh well. www.myspace.com/buriedinashesmetal |

Could you post a tab bit of something he fukked up, if you've got any handy. I mean, Dave did some catchy stuff, but he's not a guitar god. Far from it.
That's the song. Laziness ftw.
7 years? Wow. Aren't you like 18?
19 next month.
So Dean's outta a band and you guys are off doing your own thing...
Luke and I are. I don't know what Tim will do. We probably won't have him in the band since he hasn't shown to be very reliable lately and is impossible to reach. It's a shame cause he is such a damn good drummer. |

That's how things go. btw. What tuning do you play in(when you write) ? |
When I write, I tune to DGCFAD (low to high) because that's just such a heavy, chunky tuning for metal.
But WAT plays in standard E because again, Dean says so. |
When I write, I tune to DGCFAD (low to high) because that's just such a heavy, chunky tuning for metal.

E is very gay.
And any drop D-ish tuning bores me. |
E is very gay.
And any drop D-ish tuning bores me.
E is ultra gay! What's wrong with Drop C? What makes it boring? I'd say it can limit your options, but at the same time, it'll have advantages over a standard tuning. |
I just get bored with writing in said tunings easily. I don't know, I guess Drop D/C/Z/X#flat whatever just represents ultra laziness to me. Which is ironic since im ultra lazy but you know what I mean.

You can play, C3 G3 D1 Or C3 G3 C3 The latter sounds heavier, that's about it. |
Even though they're pretty much the same chord.
:p |
Even though they're pretty much the same chord.
:p
That was my exact point. The CGC barre chord sounds a bit heavier, that was all I'm saying. |
19 next month.
AMG ME TOO!!! :chug: |
I don't care muc for drop tunings either, anymore. For some reason it just seems...cheap, in a way. I love a good metal tuning, but I'd much rather play in a variation of standard.
/is 18 in 6 months :upset: |
I was 18 about six months ago :o
I don't mind drop tunings, but it depends on the band. Slayer, for example, is best in Eb but Carcass sounds great in low tunings. |
I don't really care either way. I never think to myself, wow this band would sound way better with a lower/higher tuning. Unless they used to tune lower/higher, and sounded better.
|

I agree. Slayer is a perfect example. |
