It's just contradictory to call bands like WITTR hipster black metal when they've done more with the genre than any modern day Scandinavian black metal band has. I don't even ****ing like them, but they have experimented more with the genre than a lot of bands have. Repeating the same sound over and over again with a different unintelligible band name doesn't make sense.

yeah i love how all of the only good new black metal bands that come out nowadays are labeled hipster because they actually do something new with the genre. i swear black metal is the only genre of any music that discourages and belittles ingenuity.

I can agree with this, and I'll admit there is a lot of buttfu[SIZE="2"]c[/SIZE]kery that goes on within the genre, but I still enjoy quite a few bands from it.

Just because you sound [I]slightly[/I] different from other bands does not really make you "original". You're still utilizing the same techniques and archetypes that form the genre. So when you say "find me bands that sound EXACTLY like them", its impossible to do that for [I]any[/I] band.

your argument really is stupid ron. if something didnt use the same techniques and archetypes of a genre, then it just wouldnt be that genre in the first place. wittr (and not only them theyre just the band that we happen to be using as an example) uses the black metal 'techniques and archetypes' and makes something that is unique, thats sound is not similar to any other bands but their own. "find me bands that sound EXACTLY like them"; this is not hard for 95% of black metal bands.

You're missing the point. You're confusing "originality" with the very minor differences that they have when compared to other BM acts. Every single riff that WITTR has done is incredibly similar to thousands of other riffs I have heard before, female vocals in BM have been done before, keyboards have been done before, nature samples have been done before, long and "epic" length tracks are WAY overdone.


I just don't see much uniqueness in them at all. All this being said, I still like some of their material. Their first album was good.

I've been listening to lots of Weakling lately, such a good band.

this is the first listen through since i forgot i snatched them and omg its incredible

ive probs asked this before but do you cats know Angantyr? the use of cello and violin is awe inspiring at times
