I used to skate relgiously, when I lived in Singapore and there was a great, free skatepark readily available. One summer a couple of years ago, I skated every single day of the summer, followed by lan shop Counterstrike and KFC. Man, that was the life.

Nowadays, in suburban America, there's less availability to skate, and thus I don't do it anymore. I still sometimes wish I had stuck wiht it, though. :-\

i am the robots 08-25-2005 09:26 PM

I used to skate all the time, in like 6th-7th grade, but I dunno, I got into music and started playing bass in like 8th grade, and then I picked up guitar last year, and so music has taken skating's place.

Dancin' Man 08-25-2005 09:28 PM

Snowboarding wins. I'm not great at jibbing but jumps are beautiful. I'm not great at any of it but I can land 360's pretty regularly (only if I grab though which is odd) and will hit a jump of about any size. It's just so much fun. Once you start landing more than you crash, it becomes great stuff.

Skating, I suck. I can do a couple flatland tricks, ollie and do a shuvit. I used to be able to do kickflips, but weirdly. I would to a kickflip with a body varial cause I couldn't do it any other way.

Special Brew 08-25-2005 09:29 PM
So I skateboarded all day. It was awesome. I broke my cousin's skateboard, so he was mad, but we built a new one with his other old deck, and we built a couple of jumps, hurt ourselves, and a bunch of other fun stuff. Fun day.
I miss my skateboarding days. I screwed up my ankle playing soccer for a local league where I used to live. The doctors couldn't figure out what happened, my foot kind of dislocated and went back in the wrong way so now my ankle can pop out of place very easily, so I can't play sports or even run for very long :upset:

I could probably still skate as long as I didn't try any tricks and just rode around, which is mostly what I did back when I skated anyway.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-25-2005 09:29 PM
I can go forwards and turn. :)

I mean, i can ride around pretty decently...but that's it. No tricks.
Yeah, lately, I've been kind of getting back my skills. I tend to gravitate to a style similair to Mike Vallely, in the way that he implements tricks involving his hands more than his feet. That guy is amazing.

In the town that I go to school in, they are currnently building an all-cement skate park. Hopefully it will be free. I would totally go there every once in a while.

Pete- You're right. Snowboarding>>>Skateboarding. I can also do 360's, but I can only spin one way. I would actually prefer just to go big, and tweak the hell out of a grab of some sort than spin, though. My favorite trick would probably be a 180 method of sorts. Where do you go boarding at?

Steerpike 08-25-2005 09:34 PM

Ugh. Skateboarding. I liked it better before Jack-Ass made it the in-thing.

Almost all of the skaters in my area are those obnoxious poseurs decked out in Hot Topic clothes, or parading around shirtless (despite the fact that they have all the muscle tone of a wad of cookie dough) and loitering in front of public places trying to perform the simplest tricks imaginable and failing miserably at them.

Then they go to a convenience store, buy some junk food and Gatorade, and proceed to just sit there lying about the women they've slept with (most of them aren't even old enough to drive) and spitting all over the sidewalk as if it makes them look tough instead of classless and vulgar.

One of these days, I'm just gonna slap one of those little fuckers down, put him in his place.

They build an all-cement park around here that's free. It's pretty popular, but I'd say a good 1 out of every 3 skaters there cannot skate.

I used to be an avid skater, like those fags you see all the time. I started getting more into music and movies, so it fell into the background, and then I just completely stopped.

i am the robots 08-25-2005 09:37 PM

Haha, the local skaters around me are actually quite good, my one friend's older brother is going pro.

Bam Margera belongs in hell for what he's turned the scene into, and for making HIM extremely popular. That aside, the skateboarding scene was the in thing long before Jackass. Have you tried skateboarding?

EDIT: About good skaters: There aren't many in my town, but in the bigger cities, where there's actually parks and good local street spots, there are quite a few good skaters. I saw some guys at a highschool tearing up a mini golf course, jumping over creeks, grinding random objects..All of this on that green plasticy surface. I was impressed.

There's a good amount here too, a lot get sponsored. It's just that the kids who can't skate overshadow them tenfold. Keep in mind I live in a place where most everyone skate/tries to.

Endless Obsession 08-25-2005 09:44 PM

The singer in my band is a rollerblader and I used to make fun of him before i saw him do it. He does backflips and some of the stuff he grinds and jumps shows that he has a ton of balls.

I used to think it was the lamest thing ever but now that I actually saw him do it, it was kinda cool.

Kage 08-25-2005 09:45 PM

I find extreme biking to be amazing. Did anyone watch the Xgames street BMX competitions? They do some amazing stuff I would never think possible.

i am the robots 08-25-2005 09:47 PM

Yes, all the freaking Bam kids piss me the Hell off... my friend Vince's brother Jimmy is a skating God, and Vince used to be good, before he started playing guitar all the time instead, but their younger brother.... he's an ******* Bam Margera generation skater, and he spends more time throwing his board and yelling at people than skating.

Kingofdudes 08-25-2005 09:49 PM

High school football games are great, I would be awesome if we made it to state again this year.

I suck at skating :-/

Hello everyone.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-25-2005 09:50 PM

I used to suck at skating, but I still enjoyed it. My and my mates would Skate in the winter and surf in the summer.

Those were the days

Those are what I enjoy most about school in the fall. Our team is pretty good, and everyone gets wasted at them.

Dancin' Man 08-25-2005 09:50 PM

Flatland biking is amazing. Those guys are insane.

My school was 2nd B team in the state in soccer, right after a private school that recruits. As a pre-season game, the team just beat a AA school, who must suck for AA because no B team should ever win that game.

I can do 360s on rollerblades. I've never actually tried anything too extreme, or gone to a park with blades, but I'd like to. I find it about as fun as skateboarding.

BMX is also amazing. It's really the only extreme sport that I was afraid of. I used to take my bike off small 3 foot jumps, but psh, those huge jumps are freaking insane! I mean, if you fell, you're bound to get tangled up in that mess of aluminum.

I used to do the BMX racing. They are primariliy dirt tracks but sometimes a few parks are wood/concretet like a skatepark. When you fall, you barely get hurt unless you are hit in the shins or groin. I always wore shin guards though. It's a sport I can still do as long as I don't overwork my leg. My local track shut down though :(

BludgeonySteve 08-25-2005 10:09 PM

BMX racing with a decent track is very fun to watch. So many people don't finish :)

I used to be a sk8zorz d00d before I got fed up with other skateboarders and began to focus on music.

I never really paid much attention to the scene, anyway.

I never got into skating myself. It looks cool, but I was never particularly interested in doing it. I'm actually getting into parkour, though.

Moses 08-25-2005 10:13 PM

I used to skate and I wasn't bad at it but I had zero commitment so I turned to music.

Well, I probably turned my self off of it early. I went off a bigger jump than I normally would go off of, and I landed on my back wheel, and it slid out from under me, and I just got the wind knocked out of me really, really bad. I mean, I couldn't breathe for like 30 seconds. It was frightening, so I just cautioned my self to be a pansy and avoid BMXing.

hell yes, playing guitar with my friends in his driveway, and getting yelled at by black kids/ghetto white kids at the shopping center across the street from where he lives for playing white boy music was one of the best times I've had in a while.

Does anyone know if Dredg beat Muse in the MR poll?

Apocalyptic Raids 08-25-2005 10:42 PM

Children of Bodom's Bodom Beach Terror has a very similar intro to Carcass' Corporeal Jigsore Quandry.

Steerpike 08-25-2005 10:44 PM

Parkour is a sport in which you basically lay out a space to run in laps. Any obstacle that gets in your way, you use agility to get past it. The goal is let absolutely nothing slow you down. Lots of leaping, jumping, vaulting, rolling, etc.

Translated, it means "obstacle course" if that help you picture it any better.

Linkin Park's "Faint" has a very similar vocal structure [during the chorus] to Korn's "Got The Life"

Dredg were trounced by n00bs and fools.

Endless Obsession 08-25-2005 10:48 PM

I voted Dredg because I had never really heard either of them, and they were losing.

Parkour sounds fun but I would never be good at it. Im not very agile.

i am the robots 08-25-2005 10:48 PM

Fools have a tendancy to remain n00bs for extended periods of time...

night guys
