Well, not until you mentioned it.
Took me ages to do lol

Vitalogy 05-19-2005 06:00 AM

I love old-Metallica to death! But I have to say their new all-commercial attitude pisses the **** out of me

N I hate the ape-d00d. (a.k.a Robert)
MTV band? MTV doesnt even play music...
According to my dictionary:
Music - An arrangement of sounds of one or more voices or instruments
I think that makes you wrong :)

That's stupid. Rob is pure pwnage.

Kickflip_Burrito 05-19-2005 09:42 AM

Rob is a quality bassist, I can't wait to see what he does with Metallica.

Here's a question, out of Trujillo and Burton, who is better?

PepsiMetal 05-19-2005 09:51 AM

I see no problems with the black album. Sure load/reload weren't as great, but black album is awesome. I tend to stay away from "ooh they're on MTV, yada yada" because I could care less if they are popular or not. I dont see why popularity should affect your music taste. Unforgiven, wherever I may roam, Nem, etc... Great songs.

metalcritter666 05-19-2005 11:42 AM

For some reason, I now love ReLoad.

Kickflip_Burrito 05-19-2005 11:54 AM

It has some good tracks on there, Fuel, The Memory Remains, The Unforigven II and some tracks that hardly anybody recognises like Prince Charming, Where The Wild Things Are, Attitude and Slither. All are quality.

Iceman-rocker 05-19-2005 12:15 PM
what needs to happen on the next album is let everyone do their own thing like their old music. St. Anger was awesome but if they left them each to do their own part i think it would have been better. but again Metallica has never had a bad album. oh and Chu in our previous conversation just because u give everything a chance does not mean that you are diverse in what you like...
haha you said "do their own parts" :naughty:

i dont think you can really compare them. burton was an extremely good musician - as in he knew pretty much everything there is to know about music theory, and how it works. I think i would have to say that rob is a better bassist, however cliff got cut short in the beginning of his career.
Selling millions of records doesn't necessarily make you good at all...some of the biggest selling artists of the last 5 years have been some of the least original, middle of the road music imaginable, but they sell millions of albums for precisely that reason; there's no edge to them, meaning that they're palatable to the general public. Never underestimate how diverse the musical tastes of this forum is compared to just about everywhere else. Please note, I'm not saying Metallica aren't good (I actually quite like them), but just that selling millions of albums doesn't necessarily mean that you're good. About playing instruments better, I really disagree with what you said. Taking Lars Ulrich, the drummer for SOAD could blow him away now, even though when Ulrich was at his best he might not have been able to. Every member of Zeppelin, particuarly JPJ and Bonham was more talented at their instrument than every member of Metallica. I'm not saying there's anything shameful in that, as Zeppelin were a very talented band, but it's true...compared to a lot of metal bands, and a lot of music in general, Metallica aren't really that talented. They might make better music, which is completely subjective, but they're not as talented.
I agree with you, the number of cd's you sell doesn't really mean much. Honestly, Ashlee Simpson sucks and she's probably sold more cd's than some very talented metal bands. Led Zeppelin was a very talented band. I would agree with you with Bonham and JPJ > Ulrich and the 3 bassists, I don't know about guitar. Metallica is pretty talented, just not the most. And the reason that they are as famous as they are today is because their music is better (imo, of course)

No.
Hating Ashlee Simpson won't do anything, try hating her fans for buying her recrds or the record companies for producing her.
Alot of R&M acts don't get mass recognition becuase they don't appeal to a very wide range of people. As simple as.
Not anybody can rap. And In rap, as with most genres, there are amazing underground artists who get little recognition compared to the rubbish that pollutes the mainstream. Do not make such awful generalisations about entire genres.

That's pretty much what I said, without the mindless bashing.
Of course Rap takes talent, maybe it just doesn't appeal to you.

FlyingPaul_83 05-19-2005 09:00 PM

Hve they ever played leper messiah live, or orion, or the frayed ends of sanity, or to live is to die in their entireity?

vashts80 05-19-2005 09:05 PM

Leper Messiah was played a bunch of times live, I know that it was played at Rock in Rio this past year.

That would be cool to see, what about frayed ends of sanity, they started playing ti on live sh*t, but then they stopped and said that they got bored of it. It's my favorite song at the moment

PepsiMetal 05-19-2005 09:27 PM

John Dolmayan is a very good drummer. Waaaay better than lars. He's probably the best nu-metal drummer excluding Joey Jordison. Who knows, they're both good. But metallica is talented. Sure there are more technical band, but being a good musician also means you can make good tunes, and not just technical guitar riffs that sound crap. For example, dream theater are more technical than metallica, but they do not have as many good songs. Therefore imo, metallica are better musicians.

Don't slag a band you haven't listenned to.
Alot of people on these forums talk **** about Dream Theater, how Petrucci only wanks, just because they have listenned to one song where he does.
Don't base your opinion of a band on ONE or TWO songs of theirs you have heard, this is especially true for a progressive band, who have a different sound for the majority of their songs.

They also haven't been around for as long as Metallica, they haven't had the oppurtunity to write as much, but I can assure you, by the time Dream Theater have been around for the equivelant of Metallica, they will have as many, if not more good songs.

You really need to open your mind.

PepsiMetal 05-19-2005 11:36 PM

Name me 20 good songs from dream theater that are good. :thumb: I've listened to their whole cd at my friends house and it was pretty boring. Dream Theater are good, and sure they can play pretty much every metallica, maiden, etc. song, but the point is in making a great song. Not covering it. Imo all dream theater's work is all pure technicality. Nothing is exciting as much as maiden or metallica.

Chu 05-19-2005 11:54 PM

They have more then one album, and their sound isn't restricted to one album, you have to listen to them each individually to understand them.

Their album Images & Words is a musical masterpiece, everything about the album is amazing, I suggest you get this album, and listen to it.
Recommended songs: Pull Me Under, Another Day, Surrounded, Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleepe, Under A Glass Moon and Learning To Live.

Their album Scenes From a Memory is just amazing, why? Well, it tells a story, a concept album, that has some amazing music behind it.
Recommended songs: Overture 1928, Fatal Tragedy, Beyond This Life, Through Her Eyes and One Last Time.

Their album Train of Thought, might be right up your alley, this is where Dream Theater have broken into the Metal scene more, it is an approach on progressive metal, it is awesome.
Recommended songs: As I Am, Endless Sacrifice, Honour Thy Father, In The Name of God.

They are the only albums I have, but I have their song The Glass Prison, and it is up there with the best songs of metal, it has everything, amazing drums, bangable riffs (With some sweet solos), and beast bass.

Please, honestly listen to these albums, if not, at least the songs I recommended, these songs, in my opinion, are among the finest ever written, and truly showcase that Dream Theater isn't a band out to just show off.
I hope after listenning to these songs you will be able to form your own opinion on the band.

The only thing I can find that is bad about Dream Theater is their length, sometimes their music just goes for too long.

madlyinangerwithu 05-19-2005 11:58 PM

u know who cares which metal band is better, the point is that metal is the best music. music has gotten so bad these days that its not even funny. people who dont have to do really anything are selling millions of records. Munky_magik is right dont hate ashlee simpson or any pop band for that matter its not their fault that people are dumb enough to buy their album, i mean if u could make millions of dollars just lip syncing wouldnt u do it, at least most metal bands stay true to their fans and to music.

I said the exact same thing to you yesterday.

Edit:I'm not saying Dream Theater is better, I'm simply trying to educate him, he's saying Dream Theater is a **** band, I'm trying to show him that they are not.

then i guess i have been humbled. that means your right. but anyways, ive never heard dream theater, do they have a place where u can listen to their music? im always on the look for a good band.

im sure i will, and i didnt mean to offend your taste in music i was simply saying that Metallica is a driving force in music. but i love almost all metal out their. Metallica just happens to be the band that i grew up with which makes me biased in my opinions as everyone says its all opinion
