When did he say that? I highly doubt thats looped, if anything, The Grudge would be the one with the looping (though I doubt that to..).
I think you can actually hear the looping on The Grudge. At one point his scream gets slightly lower in volume, as if it starts again. This could just be the recording though, I know a guy who says he screams longer live. |
Yeah I've seen Maynard do that live to, (bootlegs) and I wouldn't be surprised if it was real in the recording, but I also wouldn't if it was fake. At around 7 seconds into the scream you can hear him start to loose then note then bring it back up again... so I donno.
Who cares, Maynard is Gawd. :p |
ah, support.
it just sounds like it to me. ive also heard people say that he does it longer, but that doesnt mean that they still didnt loop it for the album. |
Is anyone good with identifying pitches? If you are, tell me what note he is 'singing,' and I'll try to isolate it in Audacity. This will help me figure out if it's looped or not.
|
Just hold a guitar tuner up to the speaker while its playing.
 |
But then you pick up the guitar and the drums.
Whatever, It doesn't matter that much to me. If he can do it live, I've believe he did it on the album. |
4th Octave D.....
|
I think he can hold the scream.....he seems that versatile.
|

Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D. |
Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D.
Yeah it was a joke Lmao :) The tone of screams is to hard to decipher note wise.
|
Except for a few songs that are in E, like Ticks and Leeches, Part of Me..I'm sure there are others, but those are the only 2 that I can think of off the top of my head.
But yeah, Tool does play in D quite often. :p |
Ahahaha, you're kidding right? Jeez, everything about Tool is in the key of D.
Except the songs that arn't in drop D. I'm sure Parabola and Prison Sex arn't in the key of D? |
Those songs are an exception, I say MOST of them are in D.
|
I think he can hold the scream.....he seems that versatile.
that has nothing to do with versatility though. it has to do with power and tone, seeing as how it stays fairly constant. i dont doubt that he can do it, but the album version sounds looped to me. |

It's a G#, the flatted fifth of D minor. |
I'm starting to doubt its looped. Listen really carefully. I you can hear him start to struggle a bit, and you can really hear his throat opening up.
|
I just did, heh. At 7:11, right when the band changes measures it sounds to me like his scream stops for a fraction of a second. It's almost inaudible. Again, it could be the recording, because even if it isn't looped it's not too astounding.
|
I'm sure the studio version is touched up abit, but I really don't thin it's looped...

I don't hear that... at all. |

Actually, I think most Tool songs are in the key of D Minor. |
I don't hear that... at all.
No? Try listening to it on a cd player, with earbuds. Maybe I'm imagining it. |

Wait wait. It almost sounds like... right at 7:11, it gets louder. Is that what you ment? |
Well, not so much gets louder, but there's a brief lessening in volume in Maynard's scream. It's like the drums and music get louder to mask his vocals getting softer for that brief moment.
|
Actually, I think most Tool songs are in the key of D Minor.
Technically, it's D major. It's just in the Dorian mode(Which is a major mode) the majority of the time, which sounds like a minor key. :n3rd: |

:n3rd:
D Major and D Minor are quite different from each other, though. If they are in D Major, but they sound minor, they'd be in B Minor, not D Minor. |
In talking to Adam last night, he told me that he MIGHT be sitting in on the Altamont/Melvins/Biafra extravaganza at The Henry Fonda Theatre; it's just a matter of finding the time as he is currently very busy working on Tool-related projects (art design and video stuff). The Almuchefi has been a little off lately*, but I thought I saw a SilverBurst... Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Sweet. That means we're closer to having a single and stuff! :-D satch- Yeah, but..Bah, I don't even care. |

satch- Yeah, but..Bah, I don't even care.
:p I feel you man. |
ooooo Jake got pwned. :p
|
Honestly, there's enough gradual change in the sound of the scream that leads me to believe it wasn't looped at all. Meh.
Plus he does it amazingly well on that Oklahoma show bootleg. I want new Tool. Preferably now. |
I'm not sure I did. I think he's lying. :p
