No they don't. Didn't you read that this thread is soley for bashing Tool and how much they suck?
Duh.

If Tool was any lamer, I'd die.
A lot of people don't like the feel of a seven string. If you tune it down, it keeps the feel of the six-string with a seven string sound. Of course, Adam doesn't do it properly, so when he plays songs in B, the intonation of the guitar is completely different. It could be a bad thing, but he makes it not. :)
Could you further explain this?

I have a tab for Parabola, and the tuning is B E D G B E. In other words, the lowest 2 strings are dropped down, but the higher 4 remain the same. Is this what you were referring to, or is the tab that I have just wrong?

///

All their drop B songs = Prison Sex and Parabola, right?

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. It's kind of a conceptual thing, that when you hear/feel it, you'd know what I was talking about, but it's hard to explain. I don't know the exact gauge strings Adam uses, but I'd guess he uses 10s, which are designed for standard E or Drop D tuning. When you tune down so low as B, the string becomes really lax and loses the tension it had, thus shifting the action on the guitar lower and giving the intonation and sound of the notes a different tone. It sounds "looser" so-to-speak.

To do it properly, you would have to buy thicker gauged strings that are designed to be that low, and adjust the nut of the guitar to work with those guages.

Adam just tunes the strings down, and doesn't use the thicker gauge strings and adjust his guitar accordingly. In this way, the intonation and tone on Adam's guitar when he uses that tuning is quite different, but it sounds really cool, in my opinion.
No they don't. Didn't you read that this thread is soley for bashing Tool and how much they suck?
Tom Jones could learn to play the guitar though.
Meg White > Danny Carey
123, Dana Carvey is funny, but no where near the talent of Meg Ryan.
The last song that Tool tuned down to B was "Parabola" and that's pretty much their best song ever so I say go for it!
That is my favorite, off Lateralus. But H. Still makes my knees weak <3

Just a quick question.

I noticed some posts back when I said something about Eulogy and then something about Maynard tripping out on shrooms, some ****ing idiot neg repped me. Now, honestly, I could give a **** less about this whole rep system thing, but I'm trying to figure out if it's the part about Eulogy or the part about shrooms that offended this loser?

sol 11-16-2005 02:17 PM

I've had good luck with ernie ball skinny top-heavy bottoms. In fact I play nothing but ernie ball but thats probably because I'm to lazy to drive forty five minutes to get anything else.

Dude3 11-16-2005 02:59 PM

I guess I might as well ask in here, seeing as a lot of Tool fans like these guys.

I'm looking for some t-shirts of Pelican. If you have any links of some websites that see them, it would be appreciated if you posted them.
Thanks!

Good luck.

Is it one of those weekly one they do? I joined one once. I thought I did good, but the guy who beat me deserved it. He was amazing, and younger than me too.

And good luck Marshall!

Does Guitar Center have Bass-offs as well? Because I'd imagine the only bassists able to woo the crowd would be the ones who do lots of slapping and popping.

Dammit why does it have to sound so damn impressive to everyone. Even me :(

Kage 11-16-2005 05:12 PM

Odd...just go there:

Slapping and popping gets lame really fast, imo.

Kage 11-16-2005 05:16 PM

It doesn't impress me at all.

Britton 11-16-2005 05:18 PM

I'm not a huge fan of slapping and popping either

YDload 11-16-2005 05:22 PM

Slapping and popping is a lot of fun if you have no amp and want to hear yourself playing better. I wish I was better at it, but I'm mainly focusing on building up my two-finger speed like Steve Harris.

I don't use a pick but it sounds good when guys like Chris Squire and Justin Chancellor do it. Except for the times when JPJ and Entwistle also chose to use picks, there are really no other pick players that I really enjoy.

Britton 11-16-2005 05:24 PM

I play with a pick on occassion. But I prefer to use my fingers

Maybe I don't like slapping and popping cause I suck at them...

although I still don't really enjoy even good slapping and good popping

It just doesn't really seem like bass to me. Sometimes I like the sound of it, but like I said, it gets lame really fast. I love the way Geddy Lee plays bass, and he plays with speed in certain songs, but he's still playing it like a bass. Slapping and popping in rock music is just really obtrusive, in my opinion.

It was me who negged you. The "fucking idiot" is you. It was neither the Eulogy comment nor the shrooms comment, but your overall idiocy and the incoherence of your post that brought me to neg you. Have a nice day. Gtfo. :)

Dude3 11-16-2005 07:19 PM

And now to give you something to look at, help me decide on which Dillinger shirt to get. I'm mainly looking at the 2 green ones.

http://www.infinity1.com/bcat.asp?flt=303&cat=119

And while we're at it, which Pelican and/or Isis shirt?

http://www.hydraheadshop.com/

Go to textiles, like Kage said.
