Tool doesnt have anything to do with the price the store thats selling it does.and if you dont want to buy it dont buy it,that simple
Indeed. The DVD could be $5, and I'd still miffed that the band presume that they are honoring us with a DVD with two videos. After months of speculation about releases of various items, they "quench" our curiosity with two videos? I'm less than impressed.

And to your comment that if I don't like it, I don't have to buy it: that's profoundly suggestive. I hadn't actually believed that I had an option of not purchasing this nonsense until you said something. Thanks mate, you've changed my life.

Please don't get me wrong. I've been a huge fan for over a decade. It's just frustrating to be patronized by a band whose talent you respect so much.

Dude3 11-11-2005 07:32 PM

I'm not planning on getting this dvd at all. Same with the live one, although I'll probably rent it.

I'm at home on a Friday night while all of my other friends are at either a party or a concert. This sucks. Although, I am making some good process on the first song I'm writing for my band. I went down from Drop-d to Drop-c in the tunings. I don't know why, but the tone you get when you play drop-c type stuff is just awesome to me. Its basically a metalcore song too.

I'm thinking more progressively in writing style, and not necessarily having a chorous to the song. Maybe a few similar melodies here and there guitar wise, but you know what I mean. Its much harder writing in this style, but the outcome should be good. I'm now writing the breakdown(1st one at least) which is going good, but I'm lost as to where to go after that. Mainly, I'm trying to decide if I should have a solo or not. I'm not sure if I should. This is friken hard to decide on. I used to be all about the solos, but now realized that a lot of them are just useless wankage that only takes away from the song. If I don't do a solo though, I'll probably put in some melodic guitar harmonies and the sort. I don't know. It'll probably come out completely different than I'm thinking.

I know how it is man, this is one of the only weekends I've got out of the house.
And Drop-C rules, it's what I use for Animal Corpse stuff.

And yeah, that style of writing is ALOT better, and more challenging for the musician too, and I like that.

I'm interested in hearing the song when it gets recorded.

Im really suprised there's so much negative reaction to this DVD news. Did we all miss the 'added extras' bit? I would think there must be something of worthy note there, ranging from behind the scenes pictures of a shoot, to a Merkaba style track. Who knows.....

Plus im quite happy to get the full Tool video collection (legally) on my shelf, so I have no problem with buying it.

When they don't elaborate on what the "added extras" are, it usually means it's some interview with the band answering questions we've all heard the answers to before. Especially when they say NEW TOOL DVD WITH PARABOLA VIDEO and some added extras.

This song probably won't be too progy now that I get further into it. Maybe I'll save that for some other songs. I don't know, I'll see where it goes.

Right now I'm deciding if I should put the breakdown after the chorous(I probably won't actually repeat the chorous at all, but its kinda catchy like a chorous so I'm calling it that), or put another verse(a more melodic one) before that.

I'd say the song is somewhat Unearth style. Well, just metalcore style really. And I'm still wondering if I should do a solo, and if I do, where to put it. Hmmmm...

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-11-2005 10:02 PM

I'd like it if a Tool pulled "Dredg" and released it as a promo.

Then again, Tool could probably do with a little less promotion, considering the majority of their fanbase. :p

If by "nobody" you mean "Danny Carey"

Prince of Darkness 11-12-2005 04:19 PM

Catching on with new Tool news is confusing!

So, am i right here...
...The Live DVD is still coming out, but no date has been given, unlike the Schism DVD, that kinda has a release date-ish, but it's gonna suck.
Am I on the right track here?

Kage 11-12-2005 04:22 PM

Exactly.

Prince of Darkness 11-12-2005 04:24 PM

But that's not bad news! What are you all complaining about? The live dvd is still coming out, we just have to be patient.

Kage 11-12-2005 04:40 PM

We all knew the live DVD was coming out, it's no surprise. The DVD that has a more secure release date is a peice of crap, unless those "added extras" are amazing.

Prince of Darkness 11-12-2005 04:42 PM

I bet those extras are good...Tool always have a few suprises hanging around. If you don't believe me: Lateralus.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-12-2005 05:42 PM

Perhaps in the extras, they'll talk about their cool barbecues they have.

Darkness 11-12-2005 06:08 PM

Or all the different kind of guns they have in their studio.

I agree completely...well said mate.

The most recent update on the official website indicates that Adam may not have time to sit in on some other projects because he is working on album art and video related stuff. Does this suggest that recording is finished? Blair didn't say he was busy recording, but with artwork.

Hmm..I'd say that's a good guess. I bet the recording is done, but perhaps not all the production, mixing, and mastering is done yet. Who knows?

The recording has been done for some time.

I guess I missed that update.

We knew that a while ago, Blair keeps talking about how its done and hes heard it 1000 times, and that they've just been doing the other things like artwork and what not.

Kage 11-12-2005 06:53 PM

Ah, well I never read the official site. I knew he heard it, I thought he meant the band actually performing the songs. Whatever.

Tool sucks.

Wave.Existance.Tears 11-12-2005 07:07 PM

An avid Tool fan, I choose to ignore Blair by this point :DD

Good choice.

And as for the DVD, I look forward to the "extras" as well as the videos because I just want them for whatever purposes.

Wave.Existance.Tears 11-12-2005 07:21 PM

I personally think we deserve a documentary or something juicy like that rather than stuff thats easily obtained via internet that is turned into a money grabbing collector's item. D@mnit.

...

YOU SUCK, TOOL!

Hey, you never know what the "extra" will be, it could very well be a documentary for all we know.

paganman7 11-12-2005 11:43 PM

I'm a little confused. When Tool were finished recording Lateralus, they released a statement. It was January 23rd (I believe). They even released an album title, Systeme Encepahle (or something to that effect), although it was clearly changed. I have two statements to make in light of this information:

1. They finished recording 5 months before Lateralus was released. Does this mean that we have to wait 5 months in post-production?

2. If they are finished recording, why not tell us? Why all of the secrecy?

this band takes album release very seriously. in fact too seriously

denboy 11-13-2005 07:35 AM

all I hope is that this dvd isn't some limited edition thing... I hate when they do that, because it makes it impossible to get a hold of here in Denmark to a decent price

Artemician 11-13-2005 02:47 PM
this band takes album release very seriously. in fact too seriously
You pretty much have to at this point. What with albums leaking weeks before their official release and everything.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-13-2005 02:55 PM

At this point, I'm just going to forget about Tool. Then, when I get some new music by the band, I'll be much happier. :)
