seriously though in a game where you can level grind until you have full stats and all the best weapons and items, and your only challenge is something like Ruby Weapon which can basically fuck you up anytime it likes with the right sequence of moves luck is the only thing on your side
|
I'm playing FFTactics. That game is insurmountable.
that game kicked my ass for so long |
there is virtually no challenge in turn based role playing games
i like the micro management of it and how you have to think about $tratey you like ca$ual ame$ though weren't you talkin about how you don't like hardcore ame$ that take trial and error to beat? |
that's because it is like crazy japanese chess + ff. Luck and good decision making really count.
|
but haz you love breath of fire

i leveled up to 99 in meteor crater fighting those magic pot thingies
|

i like that one but not a$ much a$ 4 6 7 an 9 not a big fan of $trategy game$ |
ff7 is a storybased rpg. It did plenty of things great especially in its presentation which attracted a lot of people. It has a lot of its original aspects in tact + a cinematic story that would have arrived to america totally cut-up and bullshit had the game come out in line with ff6
|
i leveled up to 99 in meteor crater fighting those magic pot thingies
fir$t time i beat it i wa$ at level 60 or $o with pretty weak weapon$ and under powered materia and $ephiroth wa$ p hard |
i leveled up to 99 in meteor crater fighting those magic pot thingies
yeah and the movers (looked like bouncing red marbles) were great for AP |
first time I beat it I killed him at lvl 62 with cloud's omnislash w/ 22hp and the rest of the characters ko'd
|

dont remember what level i was when i beat ffvii the first time but i do remember being disappointed by how easy sephiroth was, and all i did was like 4x cut and stuff |

yeah it$ awe$ome i really like the $tory and $ome of the character$ cloud and $ephiroth are awe$ome and well developed but tifa and barrett are caricature$ the pre$entation ha$nt aged well at all i think they $hould have made ff7 and 8 in 2d 9 look p decent in 3d but 7 look$ like a$$ except the cut$cene$ edit: well the battle part$ look fine but the overworld look$ like crap |
i like the micro management of it and how you have to think about $tratey
there is virtually no strategy involved with monitoring that your HP is low and you better use a potion, or maybe a couple of moves ahead this boss is gonna use that one move that near wipes out my entire party I better lay low and heal a bit yes there is strategy but it's of the most superficial kind which is largely dictated by luck. it's hard to feel like i'm not being shuffled into a mindless exercise
you like ca$ual ame$ though weren't you talkin about how you don't like hardcore ame$ that take trial and error to beat?
I like most of the same games you do I was talking about Contra 3 being prized for its difficulty, but really once you've gone through the motions a dozen or more times you've memorised everything you need to do to progress and there is nothing new you can possible gain from the experience, negligible variables to surprise you |

he took me like 10 trie$ the fir$t time becau$e i had no healin item$ and no hih level weapon$ armor or $ummon$ i al$o didn't know you could leave the la$t dungeon every time after that ha$ been ea$y tho |
Carved my pumpkin. Going to bake the seeds.

i mo$tly like 2d fighter$ metroid type game$ apane$e rpg$ and $ide $crollin platformer$
gun$tar heroe$ i$ awe$ome that$ a great hardcore run n gun for gene$i$ |
yeah it$ awe$ome

I love the prerenderd backgrounds and music. Have you tried Vagrant Story? |
best run and gun is metal slug 3
EDIT: vagrant story is great, loved the battle system |
gunstar heroes is the fucking shit. Anything treasure has made is interesting in some way so look them up. I beat gunstar heroes for the first time with my friend about 3 months ago, we were on a mushroom trip...the game seemed so self-aware its like it was taunting me with the next obstacle. Plus they lampoon capcom throughtout the game.
best run and gun is metal slug 3

be$t gene$i$ game$ in order
1 $onic 2 2 gun$tar heroe$ 3 $F 2 4 $natcher 5 $onic an knuckle$ 6 Ri$tar 7 $onic cd 8 $onic 3 9 dynamite heady 10 column$ kind of $uck$ 4/10 are $onic but whatever not really that many cool |
but haz you love breath of fire
not as much as Breath of Fire II and III
well you don't have to rind or et all the be$t weapon$ if you don't do that it$ more of a challenge
it is, but a challenge in the sense that you are relying even more on luck being in your favour to scrape by on the skin of your teeth unlike a multiplayer FPS or a beat 'em up game where its all about technical ability |
