Shine On You Crazy Diamond. RIP Syd.

I really need to start listening to more Syd-Era Floyd

RIP Syd Barrett

1946-2006

Danger Bird 07-12-2006 09:54 PM
I bought PULSE earlier today on DVD. The picture quality and sound quality is phenomenal, the highest quality I've ever seen in a concert DVD.

The actual performances present are what make the DVD worth it. Every song is performed wonderfully, Gilmour is in top form here. Basically, if you consider yourself a fan of Pink Floyd, buy this DVD as soon as you finish reading this post. You will not regret it one bit.

RIP Syd Barrett, you were an amazingly creative person and I'm happy to know that you have finally found peace. Rest in peace and shine on...
I think he found peace around the time he split with PF.

Jim 07-13-2006 02:28 AM

I was at work when I heard the news. Me and a workmate were playing Wish You Were Here on our guitars during our lunchbreak. About ten minutes later someone told us they heard on the news that morning that he died. :(

It's a shame when they go, but they all do in the end! He's probably lying on an eiderdown right now.

Shine on, mate. :thumb:

Whale and Wasp 07-13-2006 06:04 AM

R. I. P. syd :( shine on...

Riva 07-13-2006 04:06 PM

RIP Syd. 60 was far too young. Especially when he was getting better too.

I'm glad the boys aren't attending the funeral. We all know that they're grieving for him, but this way they give Syd's family privacy. Can you imagine the media circus accompanying all the guys attending his service?

Goodbye Blue Sky....R.I.P. Syd :(

I can't wait to get PULSE! I'm picking it up soon.

BigTrav415 07-14-2006 04:49 PM

Wow, just got on today for the first time in a while and saw the news. I can't believe it... I was hoping to meet Syd someday. Well, perhaps he's at peace now. I guess it hasn't sunk in yet, in about five minutes I'm sure I'll be depressed for the rest of the night. I can't believe it...

I'm playing Wish You Were Here tonight and crying my eyes out :emo:

Yeah it kinda just ruins your mood

rockinbass17 07-14-2006 08:18 PM

Dropping in to give my regards to Syd. Musical genious, opened my mind to more obscure music, icon of the 60's. You will be missed.

It's the end of an era, man.

Riva 07-16-2006 12:07 AM

I would have liked to have met him, but not as much as the other boys (Rick Wright in particular). I'll be absolutely devastated if Rick ever departs us.

Up The Irons 07-16-2006 12:34 AM

Something I've never cleared up:

One of my favorite albums of all time, A Saucerful of Secrets

This album has both Gilmour and Barrett?

I can definetely hear David on like Let There Be More Light but I'm pretty sure it's Syd on like See Saw. I am led to believe that both of them are on the record but I've never really found out for certain.

Riva 07-16-2006 12:39 AM

See Saw was a left-over from the Barrett days that they released with the rest of SOS, I'm pretty sure. But you can hear the Barrett influences in a lot of the other songs also, especially Corporal Clegg.

Up The Irons 07-16-2006 10:43 AM

Yeah my favorite part about that album is that there's a perfect amount of Syd influence and a Gilmour twist if you will.

A perfect example is Remember A Day

You should get it. Let There Be More Light has a brilliant opening.

Danger Bird 07-16-2006 05:27 PM

Yeah, SoS is a great album. Syd plays guitar and sings on Jugband Blues, but that's the only song he actually appears on. I don't know about writing and stuff.

standard 07-16-2006 07:31 PM

So I just got done watching the Wizard Of Oz and DSoTM .. Fucking cool.

Riva 07-16-2006 09:01 PM
Yeah, SoS is a great album. Syd plays guitar and sings on Jugband Blues, but that's the only song he actually appears on. I don't know about writing and stuff.
Yeah, I just checked. Jugaband Blues is the only song credited to Syd on the album. Rick actually wrote See-Saw, and sings on it. He does sound remarkably like Syd, even on his solo stuff, now that I think of it.

Jim 07-17-2006 03:12 AM

Bought Inside Out yesterday. That's the Floyd biography by Nick. It's actually a very interesting read (Then again, that's what I expected). Last night, I got up to the part where they basically just got the record deal with EMI. So the juicy bits are to follow!
So I just got done watching the Wizard Of Oz and DSoTM .. ****ing cool.
I tried that a while ago, and...well...there were a few things that possibly could have worked, but overall it seemed a bit vague. I guess you have to be high or something. And I-quite frankly-aren't that cool.
