how about pearl wild 500?
how about pearl wild 500?
Pearl make cymbals about as well as Microsoft would make a spanner.

In otherwords, hell no.

DruMMeR_BoY14 11-13-2005 06:00 AM

I'm guessing your looking for a starter set, go with some Sabian B8's or Paiste PST3's, depending on where you live the Paistes might be more expensive.

Anyway, I believe you yanks (I assume you're American), call it a "wrench".

Darnit, I should have looked at the "Location" thing. They're new to me. Sorry for the mistake. But you know what I'm on about now, yes?

bobby__johnny 11-13-2005 12:00 PM

it now allows us to think before we make asses of ourselves ;)

Murd_666 11-13-2005 12:37 PM

Does it, it hasn't helped me a lot:D

blacksorrows 11-13-2005 02:41 PM

im after a large, dark sounding crash, that's about 20" and a pair of hi-hats that are quite Barker-esque

Murd_666 11-13-2005 03:02 PM

Hats: A mastersounds, also look into A New Beats and Paragons, don't limit your self to what barkers stuff sounds like.
Crash: HHX Stage Crashes are Nice, HHX PLosion there just lovely, AAX Dark I don't remeber what the larger models are like but some of the smaller ones are great, look in to the K and K customs lines from Zildjian too.

moonshYne 11-14-2005 11:55 AM

Ride: Medium/short wash, not overly bright and maybe a bit of sizzle (if such things exist in a ride), but with a strong, bright bell. A few recomendations would be best, and cost isn't really an issue.

playwithfire 11-14-2005 12:08 PM
im after a large, dark sounding crash, that's about 20" and a pair of hi-hats that are quite Barker-esque
He uses 14" A Mastersounds I think. Same hats I use, they are fantastic. If you want a 20" crash I would recommend an A Thin or Medium Thin. The diameter on them and weight means they won't be too bright, but will be bright enough. You won't find a K or K Custom that's 20" in the crash department, and personally, I don't see why you would ever want a 20" K Custom crash. Ks on the other hand... those are amazing.

You wont find a 20" K crash. If you want to go K I'd sugest either a K Crash/ride, or some form of ride. K dark Rides have a pretty sweet crash to them, they are only thin I think.

edit: should of read playwithfire's post...

Murd_666 11-15-2005 05:26 PM

^umm, I didn't say anything about 20" I just impled the larger models^

DruMMeR_BoY14 11-16-2005 01:55 AM

Yeah but he asked for a 20" model, I just kind of assumed lol.

Quick question here, I am not looking for a cymbal just advice on one (Didnt really wanna start a new thread). In my local shop they're selling a 20" K Custom Dry Ride for £225 ... is that a reasonable price? Or could I get it a lot cheaper? ...

Cheers

Locke 11-16-2005 10:07 AM

Looking for advice on next cymbal purchase.

Currently have 14" K/Z Special Dynamo Beat Hi Hats.
18" A Medium Thin.
16" K somthing (brought it 2nd hand so i don't quite know what it is)
21" A Sweet Ride.

I play mainly rock stuff like Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Feeder.

I'm looking to get 2 new cymbals and get rid of my K as i don't like the dark sounding cymbals. I want to add i love my A Medium thin.

Was woundering if anyone had any suggestions, Was thinking of maybe a 17" A Custom Projection and a 16" A Custom Fast Crash, was also considering a, A Paper thin of some sort. Price isn't an issue.

Cheers for the help.
meinl headliners are these any good?
NO!!!! Headliner cymbals are just crappy!!! i have a crash and a hi-hat and they sound like a catfight.

amham 11-16-2005 10:55 AM

is there anyone that know if Sabian Paragorns are any good?

The two you mentioned would be fine, but if you play rock music I would lean away from a Fast Crash as they are for a quick accent. Up to you, that's jut my opinion. Maybe try a 19" A custom?
Great choices :)

Yes. They are.

Cheers
I can get that same price in CND... so to have that price in pounds... that's ridiculously expensive.

3_times_round 11-16-2005 03:31 PM

UK is way more expensive. But still, it's too much.

I've been at it for about 9 months now and want upgrade my ride from B8 Pro's. I like playing rock and metal but I won't be going pro or anything. I listened to the 20" A Zildjian Earth ride on the Zildjian site and it sounded pretty good. Does anyone here recommend this ?? I'm looking for very quick decay and solid bell.

playwithfire 11-16-2005 06:24 PM

It doesn't have that quick of a decay. If you want a quick decay you'll want a lighter weight ride usually. Earth rides are extra heavy. Personally I'm not a fan of Earth rides at all.

moogoogaipan 11-17-2005 12:48 AM

What do you guys think of K custom. I did a search and nothing came up.

playwithfire 11-17-2005 01:03 AM

What K Custom? The line in general? I think they are good, but not for me at all. Very dry and jazzy.

moogoogaipan 11-17-2005 01:05 AM

yeah, just the line in general. I hear that they are great, but expensive. I'm going to get some this christmas, but I always like opinions from people who've used them.
