i saw Alice a week after i saw Kiss and both were fantastic stage shows, differnet kinds. Alice as you know is more theatric while Kiss are more over the top with fire and explosions. Its really a thing with Kiss, either you get it or not...i didnt get it but then it clicked, just dont count them out forever :) you might like Ace's solo albums though!! try "trouble walkin'" or his 1978 Kiss solo album for a good idea what they are like.
I"m sure I'd have a great time at one of thier shows, but as far as their music goes, it just isn't something I really care for. I'll check that stuff out if i can though.

B0nz0 07-28-2004 07:43 PM

I like AC/DC but not Kiss. But i wouldn't exactly consider AC/DC to be my favorite band or anything like that...

BludgeonySteve 07-28-2004 08:11 PM

I have come to the conclusion that kiss fans don't play music in general :thumb:

B0nz0 07-28-2004 09:46 PM

i have come to the conclusion that kiss doesn't play music in general. can we talk about a real band?

Badmoon 07-28-2004 09:59 PM

Why do you two make false assumptions of bands because you don't like them, and when you know the assumptions aren't true?

I don't like Led Zeppelin, but they do play music, they are a band, and a lot of their fans do play instruments.

sorry, that was childish. i'm just tired of talking about kiss. can we talk about the doobie brothers, i just saw them last night. and they kicked ***! they were really really really good...

Badmoon 07-28-2004 10:05 PM

My parents saw them a short time ago, I couldn't go. They went with their friends. I do like them, though I haven't heard that much at all

Alright i'll rephrase it. People on musician forums don't like kiss in general. And I didn't say that they didn't play music. B0nz0 did, and that was sort of cleaver.

Geez man lighten up.

I'd like to see the doobie brothers. They're a great band and it would be a good show. The blues screen is really good these days. With the allmans, kenny wayne shefferd, doobie brothers, zz top, plenty of lesser known bands. Good times for people who can get into bars. :(. Actually it's not as good as it was in the 60s. Still good, better than a lot of this new bland rock.

RockAndRoll 07-28-2004 10:31 PM

My dad picked up some music encyclopedia book from the library today and it's really cool. It's about genres. It has something like 16 main genres and a ton of sub-genres, and it's got a good deal of information on each one, it's pretty interesting stuff. I was just browsing at the Rock section earlier. (did you know Rock n Roll was an american term for sex?)

Anyways more on topic I'd also like to see the doobies!

Humor99 07-28-2004 10:33 PM

I saw the Doobie Bros down in Florida a few years back, too bad I wasn't too into music at that point. I would've appreciated it a lot more now, but the one song that stuck with me: "Jesus is Just Alright With Me"

Good band.

Badmoon 07-28-2004 10:40 PM
B0nz0 did, and that was sort of cleaver
So, it's not music. Must be some random well organized sound.

You lighten up. You freaked out on me, because I sayed "Bullshit" when you said Healy's better than Blackmore. I could have been kiding.

It's just a regular opinion Rock, not a false assumption.

BludgeonySteve 07-28-2004 10:57 PM

Sorry i'm just a bit edgey. The past few days have been kinda, wow wow coo coo. And i'll agree that blackmore is an amazing guitarist. And accept that you and many other people think that he is better than Healey (even though many people haven't heard enough Healey to judge, not you or rockandroll but many people).

That's all you get  :p

Back to the current blues scene. I really wanna see Kenny Wayne shefferd but he plays a lot in south united sates and doesn't come up north too much.

StreetlightRock 07-29-2004 10:46 AM

Just saw Steve Vai live. Im currently breaking down in tears. Just when you think youre getting better at guitar.... This guy is a frikkin MADMAN! He is AMAZING, and hes band as well. He drummer is jaw dropping and the show itslef is just great. The did some of Jimi Hendrix's songs, Little Wing and Fire and i was blown away. The little wing cover was SO. F'UCKING. GOOD. The bassisst is great, he was soloing and he did this one solo wntirely with harmonics and wow.... Steve Vai himself.... Hes mastery of the guitar is something ive never EVER seen before. He handles it like a god. just the variety of sounds he get out of it and the way he makes it SCREAAAM and holds notes for forever and the way he uses he whammy bar. To write songs like those i heard... i've no idea how they do it. I actually havnt heard much Steve Vai, and the music itslef i cant totally dig, but the show was amazing. *sigh* G'nite.

DVG.
(did you know Rock n Roll was an american term for sex?)
ummagumma was a british term for sex too!

BludgeonySteve 07-29-2004 01:51 PM

Omg!!!!!! teh secks!!!

It's still a term for sex. "hey babe, wanna rock n roll? :naughty:". But it's also a kind of music.

BludgeonySteve 07-29-2004 03:51 PM
Is Vai's drummer Mike Mangini? Because I play drums, but I just find his ability so totally ridiculous. I mean, I could practice for years full-time, but just never approach that level :upset:
Yes he is. And he has been playing for years and years. you can't get that good in a day. It takes times and effort.

BludgeonySteve 07-29-2004 04:49 PM
Yeah I know, obviously he's been playing for years, but with most other drummers, I can see how they do it. With him, I just cant. It's wierd actually, because whenever I hear people talking about "best drummers", I don't think I have ever seen his name mentioned anywhere, although I'd expect him to be near the top.
Some people are just better than others. He's obviously a very special musician. Let me just say this, you will never be as good as him or bonam or neil peart. but you can be as good as you possibly can and there's nothing wrong with that. Or you could practise 20 hours a day for 5 more years and see what happens :)

RockAndRoll 07-29-2004 09:52 PM

my favourite drummer is steve gadd. He is just mindblowing.

P.S everythinng's a term for sex now, it has nothing to do with the word(s) anymore it's all about the tone of voice and facial expressions.
you will never be as good as him or bonam or neil peart.
Oh ya? We'll see...

BludgeonySteve 07-29-2004 09:58 PM

You're a term for sex .

RockAndRoll 07-29-2004 10:13 PM

superpeer 07-30-2004 01:21 PM

Badmoon 07-30-2004 01:27 PM

Thanks :thumb:

rhoads4ever 07-30-2004 01:42 PM

magicbus 07-30-2004 01:46 PM

Yay Jesus! He understands classic rock.

Anybody like Yes? My dad let me listen to one of their cds he has called "Close to the Edge". It really sweet. Really psychadelic. I enjoy it.

I thought Vai's drummer now is Jeremy Colson?

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2004 01:56 PM

See. Without me for 20 hours this thread dies.

Vai has had a few different drummers in his time.

I like Yes.

All caught up.

Badmoon 07-30-2004 02:21 PM

So Voodoo, how's that review going. I'm looking forward to it. :)

VoodooChild 07-30-2004 02:25 PM

I like Yes. I have two of their albums which are probably the two best ones. Close to the Edge and Fragile. Fragile is a definite 5/5. "South Side of the Sky" and "Heart of the Sunrise" are really amazing songs. Great album. Very mystical. Close to the Edge is wierd album. Again, very deep and mystical. All three songs are mind-blowing and "And You and I" is my favorite. Anyway, it a great prog band.

VoodooChild 07-30-2004 02:29 PM
