Glad you guys enjoyed The Cure. Did they play much off Head on the Door?
The only ones I remember hearing were "In Between Days" and "Close to Me." And I was really hoping to hear "Six Different Ways" too. tbh, the version of "Close to Me" was a bit off. Dug this today: The Feelies - Crazy Rythms It's good stuff. Good job whoever uploaded it for the mailing list. |
They did "A Night Like This" and "Push" as well. "Close to Me" was weird, but I was pretty happy just to hear it.
|
Desaparecidos - Read Music/Speak Spanish. I love this album so much. Not a bad song on it if you ask me.
I've tried to get into Bright Eyes like a thousand times and it never works. |
Modeselektor - Happy Birthday!
|
xtc - white music
but mostly "all along the watchtower" |
Digging Jeff Mueller's bands today:
Rodan - Rusty June Of 44 - Four Great Points I think this album's four great points are "Of Information and Belief", "Cut Your Face", "Does Your Heart Beat Slower", and "Air #17". The other songs are ok. |
Charalambides - Joy Shapes
Mogwai - Rock Action |
Negativland - Escape from Noise
|
^Negativland is fantastic.
The Modern Lovers self titled Wire - Pink Flag Gong - Flying Teapot Am I cool yet? |

Ah, well there ya go, eh. Oh, and what was up with the massive over use of the wah wah? That was strange. |
Yeah it was like they were trying to make them into stadium rock songs or something. Weird.
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead |
Various Artists - Funk/Soul Revival: Classic Tracks and the New Breed
free, making it that much better. p.s. - it is GOOD |

The Modern Lovers self titled Wire - Pink Flag Gong - Flying Teapot Am I cool yet?
Awesome Proto-Punk, Post-Punk, and Psych respectivley. You're officially cool now. King Crimson-Red, In The Court of the Crimson King, and Disicpline. For some reason these guys never clicked with me until a few days ago. |
If you're going to bestow genre names like they matter, I might as well dispute the claim that Pink Flag is "post-punk." It's from '77 and it's completely stripped to punk rock basics.

Calling it punk doesn't really seem to fit though because they didn't have the attitude or the ethos and weren't part of the scene. May be Pop-Punk is a better term even though some of the songs on the album are kinda angular. |
This reminds me to listen to A-Z by Colin Newman some more. I still haven't given it an extensive listen, but I know I'd fall in love with it if I did.
|
i tend to think of Pink Flag (the only Wire i've heard) as good, early pop punk
/two cents anyways, Sunset Rubdown... the song "They Took A Vote And Said No" is ****ing amazing http://www.sendspace.com/file/gtbs8u |
Wire set the stage for post-punk, but they were doing it at the same time actual punk had just caught on in England. Maybe they're just future-punk??
|
The same thing applies to Pere Ubu and This Heat.
^Negativland is fantastic.
The Modern Lovers self titled Wire - Pink Flag Gong - Flying Teapot Am I cool yet?
Yeah. Negativland are fantastic. That album is their best, though I've only heard a few. Chris Brokaw - My Confidante + 3 EP He was in Codeine and a bunch of other bands. It's not amazing but it's good enough to make me want to listen to his full length albums. |
Yeah. Negativland are fantastic. That album is their best, though I've only heard a few.
I think I might like "Free" moreso than escape from noise, but that one is very good. |
I think I might like "Free" moreso than escape from noise, but that one is very good.
