Sometimes I wonder why Xiu Xiu are so awesome. Its a phase, most likely.

el doctor 12-11-2005 08:39 PM

Anyone know if it's worth it to see Colin Meloy play solo?

Of course it is. He'll probably bust out covers of awesome 80s bands.

Dog 12-11-2005 08:58 PM

Apparently for his last solo tour he performed only Morrissey covers. Should be interesting.

Yeah that's what I heard too. I have some live recordings of the Feelies, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Smiths etc. covers. Good stuff.

Sylvia - anything is better than Morrissey records tbqh

morrissey 12-11-2005 09:35 PM

Funny I had the same reaction after I heard a Johnny Marr & the Healers record only instead of killing myself I made sure to live long enough to tell the tale on the internet.

how is old ted by the way

Joe Keithley wrote an editorial in the local paper about gun violence t'other day. It was interesting to read.

Does Morrissey want to be Chris Isaak, or is it the other way around?

They both want to be Elvis or Sandie Shaw or summat.

Has anyone here watched much of "Mr. Show"?

I haven't seen it and I'm interested in checking it out. Just curious what folks here thought.

Dog 12-11-2005 10:20 PM

It's very stupid but humorous. David Cross is a funny guy.

YDload 12-11-2005 10:24 PM

It's not stupid at all. It's far more clever than SNL for instance, and easily my favorite sketch comedy show ever.

"Mr. Tickles' Fun-Time Abortion Clinic, where we bring out the kid in you!"

Dog 12-11-2005 10:27 PM

Yeah, it is clever. I meant more like stupid for the sake of being clever, but that doesn't make sense.

I watched Me and You and Everyone We Know tonite. I think it may replace Life Aquatic as my new favorite movie ever. Fantastic film.

asymm 12-11-2005 10:39 PM

Yeah, I really enjoy David Cross' stand-up and some other things I've seen him involved with (Arrested Development for one). I'll check out Mr Show soon

YDload 12-11-2005 10:47 PM
Yeah, it is clever. I meant more like stupid for the sake of being clever, but that doesn't make sense.
Actually, that's pretty much exactly what it is. Good choice of words!

One of my favorite sketches is where David Cross is a method actor, and the upcoming role he's studying for is a mental patient, so he gets a lobotomy. The sketch centers around him being a drooling retard most of the time, but it's more clever than it sounds.

I swear, you have to watch each episode more than once to get the hang of it. Even the studio audience laughter is delayed a bit as they slowly get each joke.

I thought it was pretty average. It certainly wasn't "this year's Sideways," as the poster claimed. On the other hand, The Life Aquatic is awesome.

Glitterati 12-11-2005 10:51 PM
I thought it was pretty average.
So, good, but not good on the same scale as, say, Airplane?

Exactly.

biografiend 12-11-2005 10:56 PM

I didn't think Sideways was very good.
I connected really well with the main female character, minus the filmmaking and with less quirkyness, and I'm going through a situation very similar to the scene with the shoes that had Me and You written on them. It really hit base with me moreso than The Life Aquatic, and I think thats why I miiiiight like it better. But, I havent seen Life Aquatic in awhile.

Little Man being Erased 12-11-2005 11:02 PM

Ok, yeah that makes sense.

Sideways is one of my favourite movies ever.

br3ad_man 12-11-2005 11:21 PM

I didn't like The Life Aquatic much. There was absolutely no character development, besides in Cate Blanchett's character and the only other interesting character was Bill Murray's character, who was only interesting because he was played by Bill Murray.

Bill Murray is cool. It seems he's been re-inventing his career as of late, with stuff like Lost In Translation and whatnot.
