so far its Sailor. i heard the 30-second sample on last.fm and instantly got hooked (just like i did with Scratch Acid's "Monsters" and probably a few others i cant name right now)

normally i'm not crazy about music with so little energy, but the guitars are so neat that i have to have it!

Chilling as in relaxing, or chilling as in the exact opposite of relaxing?

Orange Goblin - Frequencies From Planet 10

Hadn't listened to this in a while, so I stuck it on to remind myself how much fun it is.

that has its moments

the bass is tight on that album

perriwinkle 08-07-2007 12:58 AM

finally listening to june of 44 - engine takes to the water

this is way too similar to slint for me to respect this band as a real unique talent

i do enjoy all these songs, but so far they haven't done much differently at all

granted i'm only on the first track. and i imagine they develop in later albums..

welll kinda both. i meant chilling as in the opposite.. they're somewhat haunting and discomforting, but the song itself sounds chill as in relaxing, with repetitions of slow melodies in an odd rhythm. here are the lyrics

the sea pounds so hard against this old ship
where he had only one wish
home is so far from his memory
the ships old wet deck is all his family
two days worth of storm had broken the ships tired mast and captain

the sea pounds so hard against this old ship
where he'd had only one wish
God is gone now is all that he knew
they saw that last wave come and he knew that he was through

Same here. I haven't been this excited about a concert for a long time. Have you seen any of the setlists of Perth or Adelaide? The final encore is like half of Boys Don't Cry; the title track, Killing An Arab, Fire In Cairo, Three Imaginary Boys, Jumping Someone Else's Train.

In fact, the only song on any of the setlists that I would have been sad to miss is Plainsong.

i swear one day i will get this list to be different each week, but i listen to the same songs over and over again while playing along to them on bass, so there tends to be a lot more repetition than i'd like :-/

speaking of playing songs, i learned all of Surfer Rosa finally. most of it was from tabs a long time ago, but i had to go over the album again because so much of playing it depends on learning when to suddenly start/stop

metalicajaymz 08-07-2007 03:24 PM

that Rapeman album sucks except for "Steak and Black Onions" and "Kim Gordon's Panties" which is only good because it's basically "Schizophrenia"

YDload 08-07-2007 03:36 PM

i like "Hated Chinee" and "Radar Love Lizard" too, because the last one is basically just making fun of Radar Love (i figured out the title of that song and Marmoset were switched when i listened to the lyrics)

i think the problem is that the album's just very badly recorded. i dont like the bass tone at all, even though it's SUPPOSED to be abrasive
