There's lots of good modern music, just gotta find it, depending on your tastes.
As for a revolution, no I don't think there will be one soon because I believe one has happened, rap and hip hop is no longer listened to by everyone -- emo has taken over. Emo is the new big thing in the industry. I always thought Weezer and bands like that were emo, but its changed a bit and gotten gayer because Weezer is a cool band unlike the current emo bands and their disciples. |
I don't think of Green Day as political. I see them more as a band just trying to be cool and hate Bush. This has nothing to do with poltics its just the way history has come out. One exemple is the revolution that came in music after we got sick of conformity after World War Two, another came in Veitnam.
The Jazz Age came about after WWI, even though America's involvement in that was less than WWII or Vietnam. |

well after wwii u must remember came the bebop craze. |
Progressive Music has a tendency towards "Art-Rock", long songs, emphasis on virtuosity and complexity, and lots of solos, as well as often being "high concept" in nature or difficult to digest at first. I think this post sums things up pretty well.
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7215819&postcount=105 Notable Progressive Rock bands: Yes Rush Dream Theater King Crimson Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (often classified as such) Alan Parsons Project (often classified as such) Pink Floyd (often classified as such) The Mars Volta would most likely fall under "Progressive", categorically. There albums are conceptual in nature, and they are known for sprawling, artistic, emotionally laden songs with numerous solos. |
Well, I've just listened to the Mars Volta, and have found a new faith in modern rock.
There are two bands that have pretty much gave me faith for music in the future. Radiohead and Queens Of The Stoneage. Other than that, there is a lot of diversity around but you just have to look for a lot of it. |

I know, I was adding to his already made list of examples. |

Im in sort of a debate here...and without the annoyance of making a new thread...Deep Purple, Mark Knopfler, and Lynyrd Skynyrd are all coming to my hometown relatively soon, but cant decide which to go to. My issues with all of them is for Purple, Blackmores gone (obviously a huge disapointment), Lynyrd Skynyrds Lead guitarist, Bassist, and Singer all died, and i just want to know if Knopfler performs only his material or his & Dire Straits. any suggestions? |

Deep Purple no doubt.

They're bigtime Anti-Bushm and labeling there album as "American Idiot" As for Vietnam, lots of people were anti-Vietnam and still made good stuff. Neil Young, CCR, Lennon, and so much more :\ |
Neil Young's Greendale is a brilliant anti-war album that has often been overlooked since it's release in 2003
|
I'm gonna try to go see Deep Purple.

I like Deep Purple.. I went to their concert last year and they were with Thin Lizzy.. They're great live

Thanks, I keep forgetting about that site |
I did too until just now.
|
I haven't used it since I tried to listen to Mountain Jam on it and the quality was completely terrible.
|

Their song Child in Time is amazing that one is my favorite. |
exactly. P.S listen to hush.
And Fireball. |
I haven't used it since I tried to listen to Mountain Jam on it and the quality was completely terrible.
But, hey, you listened to Mountain Jam for free. |
Child of Time is definitly one of the greatest songs of all time.
I haven't heard Machine Head yet, I only own In Rock and I've heard Made in Japan once, and I've listened to their first two albums (lots of covers), but from what I know, listen to Bloodsucker and Living Wreck as well. Ian Paice is great at the drums. |
Yah,
Child In Time is extremely awesome. Richie Blackmore is definetly one of the best ever. His style is so.....creative..... Like how he plays some of his songs. With the organ backing him up. It blows my mind that the organist was trained to be a classical pianist, and grew up learning Mozart. I really respect that because i'm a classical guitarist. |
Ian Paice is great at the drums.
He definitely is, it's too bad the way alot of people think of deep purple just because they think they've heard smoke on the water too many times. |
I don't know anything by them except Smoke on the Water
I can upload a few good tracks if you want. |
Smoke on the Water probably isnt even there best song...but undoubtably their most popular.
Machine Heads never a disapointment. Highway Star, Child in Time, Lazy are my favs. Some dipwad did a review on machine head after i clearly said i was doing one in this thread, and it sucks ***. Id totally do something about it if Sputnik would let me log on  :upset: |

Today I picked up Disraeli Gears, Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
|
Do you guys think the whole sloppy thing really matters. I mean if its horrible it does, but everybody says Jimi Hendrix was sloppy (whitch he was I guess) but I have countless live stuff from him, and I don't mind it at all, is it really that big of a deal?
