Not to mention "To Live Is To Die" and the rest of the AJFA album.
geez.....seriously. someone please give me ONE SONG where metallica promotes drugs? well there may be one, so two.
Maybe Fuel. |
Yeah, Sad but True and Master of Puppets are so "do drugs, man"
Even still whats so "do drugs" about MOP?? It's about Heroin sure.. but there is no messages to do them. |
no, he was being sarcastic.
and about fuel...its not about doing drugs but rather how crazy and manipulative people can get by taking drugs, using the analogy of driving a car dangerously too fast. *edit* and yes mop talks about heroine....and its terrible consequences and how doing heroine makes you easy to manipulate (master of puppets...pulling the strings twisting your mind smashing your dreams) its using the analogy of you being like a puppet that heroine is controlling |
Even still whats so "do drugs" about MOP?? It's about Heroin sure.. but there is no messages to do them.
i was beeing sarcastic, MOP's main theme was the selfdestruction caused by heroin.(which makes it an anti-drug song)
and about fuel...its not about doing drugs but rather how crazy and manipulative people can get by taking drugs, using the analogy of driving a car dangerously too fast.
but the song uses analogies as: "Give me Fuel, Give me Fire, Give me that which i desire." and "Quench my thirst with gasoline" I think that's a little suggestive, but it isn't as explicit as the 85% of mainstream music.[including hip-hop(not the good one)] |

They say that sad but true is about drug addiction |
They say that sad but true is about drug addiction
it is about drug addiction, but it "motivates" you to not using them. |
it is, its another song talking about how the drug you is different than the real you, and the drug you is the evil side that tries to take over.
haha metal kid we are neck and neck and irrefutable i might add |
If anything they are against drugs.
Let's jump in the fire! |
I did :D
|
haha indeed
|
They say that sad but true is about drug addiction
You could say that about any song, it's all about how you percieve it. |
geez.....seriously. someone please give me ONE SONG where metallica promotes drugs? well there may be one, so two.
"We're All On Drugs" wait, that's Weezer.
You could say that about any song, it's all about how you percieve it.
So is Master of Puppets. But you're right, it's all about how you percieve the lyrics (unless of course Hetfield comes out and says it's about ---) |
Though "We're All On Drugs" is about how bad they are too, not promoting them, AFAIK.
:smash: |
eek. Time to go to my gig. Wish me luck and I'll post how it went later.
|
:thumb: Good luck.
I just got a awsome drummer! (a week or tow ago) so we are getting
some shows and stuff together. We have this High school battle of the bands coming up there are gonna be lie 3000 people there. Most people that know me don't know that I play guitar...so They get a treat! At school yesterday I had to read a paper that I wrote. I had to read it out loud. and I amlost bombed it. The funny thing is I can play guitar/drums/bass/sing for lots of people (cause I have confidence in my playing) but other things I get freaked out over. Does this happen to any of you?. BTW the paper got a A
Yeah, all the time. I can play guitar real well when I'm alone, but in front of ppl I mess up all the time and it gets old real fast. I try to compensate for this by way of humor. When we're playing stuff like AC/DC, I act just like Angus Young. I do the whole throw myself on the floor and do doughnuts thing and get everyone bustin' up which settles my nerves. Then I can do the whole sit there and riff crazy metal thing without f**king up. |
I dont go the angus young way (he annoys me)
but I see what you are saying...Just let it all hang out! |
Haha. Yay for messing up. I messed up in every song. I wasn't nervous at all, I just blanked occasionally and lost it.
|
Ah, I usually mess up. Nobody has ever noticed. Yay bass!
 :smash: |
haha everyone noticed the slip in the rainbow solo.
|
What is the meaning of 'The Memory Remains'.
what is this song representing? |
haha everyone noticed the slip in the rainbow solo.
So how did your gig go man? How was the crowd's response? |
What is the meaning of 'The Memory Remains'.
what is this song representing?

• The Memory Remains (Hetfield/Ulrich) This song was the first song which was ever played live from the "ReLoad" album before the album was actually released. It was also the first single release of the "ReLoad" album. Album: Re-Load The song live: The song "The Memory Remains" had its first live appearance as a jam version in Deer Creek Field in Noblesville, Indiana at 2nd july '96 - one year before ReLoad has been released. And the song has been only once played live with Marianne Faithfull - in New York City, Saturday Night Live at 6th december '97. The contributed voice: It is Marianne Faithfull who sings the "nanana"- part - she also appears in the video. The dialogue at the song's end: They were chosen by Marianne Faithfull who wanted to add parts of her favorite movie one-liners to the feel of the song. The line "Say yes. At least say hello." is from Marilyn Monroe's movie "The Misfits". The inspiration: It is supposed that the song is based upon a movie called "Sunset Boulevard". The movie is about a has-been celebrity who - after fell into oblivion - lost her mind and still thinks she is famous. The video: The band shot the video to the "Memory remains" video in LA, actually at the Van Nuys airport on 20 and 21 October '97. It costed $400.000.00 and featured the band it a huge box that costed over $100.000.00. The video had it's world premiere on MTV's Mattrock show the 15th of November 1997. The subject matter: It is about a person who tries to keep living in his glory days and in that way she becomes isolated from reality.
courtesy of AllMetallica.com |
Hmm that's intresting...I can swear I've heard/seen a live version
where kirks sings the na na nana nana na na na...er what ever |
Wow, I never thought of the song like that but now that I think of the lyrics it does make sense.
|
Ash to ash dust to dust fade to black!
Hmm that's intresting...I can swear I've heard/seen a live version
Hmm that's intresting...I can swear I've heard/seen a live version

it was....when it says the only played it live once with marianne faithfull, it means they only played it once with HER, they have played it at other times without her, like on the s&m dvd.

When did they play it with her? It's a little weird her voice... |
When did they play it with her? It's a little weird her voice...
SNL, I believe. Edit: Now I see it was previously mentioned... "And the song has been only once played live with Marianne Faithfull - in New York City, Saturday Night Live - December 6, 1997." |
What is the meaning of 'The Memory Remains'.
what is this song representing?
I've also heard that part of it had to do with the time that James burnt himself with the pyrotechnics. And can't the band play on? Just listen, they play my song That has to do with when James couldn't play when he was injured. Ash to ash Dust to dust Fade to black Fade to Black being the song that the pyrotechnics malfunctioned on. This wasn't my interpretation, but it makes sense. Theme doesn't really follow through the whole song though. |
When did they play it with her? It's a little weird her voice...
yeah her voice is quite odd, but i like the effect it has on the song |
What exactly happened when the pyro tech's went all crazy on James?
|
Does anybody know when a new Metallica album will be coming out?
|
We've been speculating around 2006 early '07. And during Fade to Black there was a pyro misunderstanding and right as one was about to explode james walked right on top of it.
|
****, I was hoping sooner than that. Has Metallica said anything about what it will sound like and will there be any solos etc... .
|
i haven't heard them talk about it...
|
