Actaully, speaking Frisian sprains your tongue. It was the language of Alfred the something or other.

Also, you guys, all languages pretty much originated in Africa. That is to say, the original language of the nomads who wandered up from the Rift Valley before the splitting occured.

Isn't Basque related to South African?

Like Xhosha?

Freisan:
One rhyme demonstrates the similarity of the two languages: "Bread, butter and green cheese is good English and good Friese," which is pronounced more or less the same in both languages (Frisian: "Brea, bûter, en griene tsiis is goed Ingelsk en goed Fries.")
Lingusts for years have been trying to find a common link to the 7 language trees, as one proto language, and have been unable to do so, so there is no actual evidense that all languages originated in africa. There is a theory that 7 tribes or so emigrated around africa and southern asia and europe, and those groups each developed language in their own time. it is just a theory, but it is possible.

I heard JFK gave a speech in Berlin and he meant to say "I am a Berliner" in German, but he actually said he was some kind of German donut...wonder if it's true.

Steerpike 08-21-2005 09:09 PM

Ugh. Just had a huge argument with my parents.

I'm well aware that I have a bad habit of procrastinating. I've made a little effort in shaking it, but it's still a problem. Just today, I forgot to take my medication which I just started on a couple days ago. My mother got upset when I said, "Well, it's not like this is going to set me back too much. As long as I don't make a habit out of this it should be fine." Apparently, she took it to mean that I don't take this seriously.

A little later, I tried to make peace, and everything just went downhill from there as my attempts to quell her anger just made it worse. I know it really soured the room when in a moment of frustration, I blurted out, "Well, whenever I do make progress, I get a sarcastic response along the lines of 'Why couldn't you have done this sooner?' How is that supposed to motivate me?"

For some reason, every attempt I've made to form a good habit over the summer has crashed and burned. I'm at a point where I consider a major accomplishment what others would call an inconsequential victory. I haven't given up trying, but my progress is so slow. That seems to be my entire life story. It's getting harder though. I'm getting a shitload of frustration, but very little pay-off in comparison. And so much time elapses that by the time I see results, my goals have already been forced into change due to outside circumstances.

I just don't know what to do anymore. Nothing's working.

Someone briefly fill me in on how Audioscrobbler works. I might consider using it at uni since I'll be on a faster connection.

A couple questions:

1) When it counts artists, does it count the number of songs it plays, or does it just count total plays?

Clarification:

Say I leave Squarepusher on overnight. The album is fifteen songs. Will it say

Squarepusher - 15 (the number of songs on the album, excluding repeats)

or

Squarepusher - 158 (the number of songs on the album, with repeats)

2) same applies for songs... if I have a song on repeat, will it just record once, or will it count each time it's repeated?

3) answer any other random Audioscrobbler questions that I didn't ask for me, please :)
I got confused :upset:

yes, when you use the article "a" before the word berliner, you do indeed mean a jelly donut. You use articles the same in german as in english, except to say your profession, heritage, or religion. So in german you wouldnt say "i am an american" but "I am american"

The word berliner means both Person from berlin, and Jelly Donut. The usage of this article depends on what you mean in the sentence.

BoboTheRagingHobo 08-21-2005 09:34 PM

Audioscrobbler counts repeats.

I know because mine is messed up now because how I fall asleep to albums on repeat heh.

1) It will read 158.
2) It will count total times the song was played.
3) Join the musician forums group and revolt.
