I'm going to make it my quest to find the Joy Division box set Heart and Soul and the Velvet Underground box set Peel Slowly and See for really cheap. If it's over $20 I'm not going to get it.

I think I'm going to get a Yes album and a Husker Du album for Christmas. They're both pretty much the same thing: awesome.

br3ad_man 12-07-2005 11:53 PM

I'm going to try to find the new Architechture in Helsinki album for my friend for her birthday. If I can't find it, I'll get her The Magic Numbers. I want to get her something that she wouldn't normally listen to, but something she will like (she mainly listens to radio pop and pop-punk but she also goes to gigs and stuff).

Is there anything that's way way better than either of those albums I should get her?

br3ad_man 12-08-2005 06:56 AM

I just did my first review in a long time.

http://www.musicianforums.com/sputnik/album.php?reviewid=4540&genreid=53

It's a really awesome band.

lilsolsman 12-08-2005 05:47 PM

I spent my day banned.

Being banned sucks.

Husker Du and Yes? Classy. Just wish you get Fragile.

I hope my carpentry teacher lets me back into class tomorrow.

Zappa 12-08-2005 07:53 PM

Fragile is probably my least favorite of the classic Yes early 70s run. Close to the Edge, The Yes Album, and Relayer would all be better picks, in my opinion.

I found a Fragile vinyl in my house the other night.

Strange.

Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and I'm really really into "Heart of the Sunrise" and "South Side of the Sky" right now. The latter because it's cold here :( Close to the Edge is next.

But I don't know what Husker Du album to get. I'm sure Zen Arcade would be the logical starting point, but I'm guessing that New Day Rising has the songs I would like more on it. I've only heard one song from each (Pink Turns to Blue and Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill), so I'm sure neither one would be "bad."

You can go wrong with neither. Zen Arcade is longer, so it's more Husker for your dollar. Still, they're both really great.

If it's a 2005 album you're planning to buy for her, I'd say Dead Meadow - Feathers, My Morning Jacket - Z (she'd probably like "It Beats for You" a lot), or The Woods. But those are just my preferences.

Or, you know, The Aquabats.

Sam 12-08-2005 08:39 PM

I'm personally a bigger fan of Close to the Edge.

Zappa 12-08-2005 08:46 PM

Close To the Edge is quite hard to contest as their greatest release.

Happymeal 12-08-2005 08:47 PM
Or, you know, The Aquabats.
If anything, The Fury of The Aquabats!. Not too keen on their later stuffs, but that album is Super Rad.

Daniel! 12-08-2005 08:49 PM

My dads a big Yes fan, so I grew up with their music. I love Fragile. I don't like Closer to the Edge as much.

JonM 12-08-2005 08:57 PM

My room smells like chlorine. I hate my roommate.

Robert Crumb 12-08-2005 09:27 PM

Did he go swimming then roll around your dorm naked?
the Velvet Underground box set Peel Slowly and See
I bought mine for $25 used. Seemed like a good deal.

Little Man being Erased 12-08-2005 11:51 PM

So I have a work christmas party tomorrow night with a 70's Disco theme. I'm going in a pink pimp suit with zebra striped collar, massive flares, an afro, glasses, a cane, a chain with a dollar sign on it, and one of those rings that covers all your fingers on one hand. Coooool.

JonM 12-09-2005 12:06 AM

Since it's the anniversary of John Lennon's death, I recorded myself playing "Imagine" today. I hope that's not too lame.

Oh my God, what is happening to me? I am listening to Limp Bizkit's greatest hits, even the songs I've never heard, and I am regressing like 6 years. This is amazing. I'm 12. Look at my avatar!
