I was thinking of Beneath the Massacre. My mistake.
 no worries, I was most definitely referring to the Sepultura album. Also, this be fitting. NP: Underoath - A Boy Brushed Red... Living In Black And White |
alright here's my take on things
Dawn of Possession: a classic album, essential for anyone who calls themselves a death metal fan Here in After: a good album, nothing amazing for Immo Failures for Gods: same as above Close to a World Below: their best effort; dark, crushing, twisted death metal Unholy Cult: a little too "weird" for me. this is basically what Gorguts wanted with Obscura, but utterly failed at. Harnessing Ruin: groovy crap Shadows in the Light: a bit of a return to form; still some groove, can't compare to CtaWB.
You took the words out of my mouth. |
Yeah, Immolation's badass.
Only one of their albums I own a hard copy of (LOL I SAID HARD) is Failures For Gods. |
I didn't like what I heard from Shadows in the Light, it seemed a bit flat to me. Unholy Cult and Close to a World Below are righteous though.
|
The past two aren't too good, true, but their track record is still pwnage.
|
I didn't like what I heard from Shadows in the Light, it seemed a bit flat to me.
You sure you didn't get the shitty mono version of it? |
I liked the title track to Harnessing Ruin, but other than that it was a little disappointing. Better than a lot of other stuff to come out in the past couple of years, but not as good as their other albums.
|
i got CTAWB and DOP so im going to check those out. btw guys what would be the best Suffocation to check out?
|
I'm partial to Pierced From Within, but Effigy of the Forgotten is great as well. I don't care for their two latest.
You sure you didn't get the poopty mono version of it?
Actually, I did. But after realizing that I re-downloaded the retail version and still found nothing thrilling with it. |
Ahh. It's alright, certainly better than HR.
i got CTAWB and DOP so im going to check those out. btw guys what would be the best Suffocation to check out?
Effigy of the Forgotten |
lol @ never having heard the single most commonly cloned band in all of metal (yeah, imo suffocation gets cloned even more than darkthrone and sabbath)
|
I didn't know Dargon liked Immolation. It's one of the bands that come to my mind (along with Demigod, Demilich, early Amorphis, early Therion etc) when I hear the term atmospheric death metal.
|
Human Waste is better.
|
lol @ never having heard the single most commonly cloned band in all of metal (yeah, imo suffocation gets cloned even more than darkthrone and sabbath)
Yeah it's incredibly weird though, considering that they're not THAT special :\ |

I've never understood why every DM band on the planet would want to be a Suffocation clone. It's true that they are though.
If you're not going to be original at least pick a better band to be a clone of. |

haha we have no music at all. yet.
maybe someday haha. Anyways, I find Suffocation to be a good band, but some of the "clones" end up being far better than original (Beheaded, Pyameia etc) |
Beheaded are hot and brutal indeed.
|
That middle riff in "Crowned With Repression" is killer. I think Perpetual Mockery is my favorite album from them.
I heard they were working on a new album but they seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth :( |
I'm sorry but Pyrexia is wiggercore, and Beheaded do not even remotely begin to approach the level of Human Waste or Effigy of the Forgotten.
How can a clone outdo the original? It's ridiculous to even entertain the concept. |
How can a clone outdo the original? It's ridiculous to even entertain the concept.
It depends. Some bands are not clones with the narrow sense of the term. They don't shamelessly rip off every riff Suffocation have written. They're just influenced by them and they're talented enough to incorporate their own elements to this influence. This way they take music one step further thus the first is not necessarily the best. |
Limbonic art.

I've lost all respect I might have ever grown on your obscure music good taste. |

Nicely worded, I completely agree. And I was talking about Pyaemia, not Pyrexia, Dargon.
Limbonic art.
why are you bringing up a symphonic bm band here? NP: Cerberus - In Contempt |
You took the words right out of my mouth.
It must have been when he was kissing you [/Meatloaf] It appears everyone is thoroughly on track with Immolation. I completely agree with what's been said so far. |
^
And they slay live. I'd love to see them again, they put on a very intensive and great live show. |
Nicely worded, I completely agree.
And I was talking about Pyaemia, not Pyrexia, Dargon.
oh, I don't know them. Anyways pretty much every "brutal" death metal band is just 90% stolen Suffocation riffs and 10% hip hop beatz. |
Or, in the case of Kataklysm, 100% hip hop beats
Yeah, I just called Kataklysm "brutal death". What now? |
Kataklysm is more like pop punk really.
|
I don't like Kataklysm. Besides the fact that their name is stupid (which I don't really care about), they don't bother to do anything special at all.
|
ugh kataklysm is total garbage, In the Arms of Devastation was some of the most boring material I have heard in a while.
|
True dat.
|
Kataklysm has its moments.
|
Kataklysm has its moments.
I'm pretty sure Tojes says this whenever he hasn't heard a band, but wants to seem knowledgable, because he seems to think everything "has its moments." |
Kataklysm is more like pop punk really.
OK, compare the beats in the song "Serenity in Fire" to say, Blink-182 and tell me they're like pop-punk rather than hip-hop :p |
perhaps you're right.
Kataklysm are a highly original band who combine catchy, fun pop-punk licks with phat hip hop beats. |
fair enough. Wiki that. |
done, look quickly
Kataklysm are a highly original band who combine catchy, fun pop-punk licks with phat hip hop beats. They call their musical style "northern hyperblast" after an advertisement in M.E.A.T. magazine. The ad described another band, Fear Factory, as "hyperblast", referring to the extremely fast blast beats that their drummer, Max Duhamel, fuses into the music.[1]
 that made my day. Thank you. |
