Metallica is one of the greatest bands to ever walk the face of the earth man they just were so good back in the days of such albums of kill em' all which is my favorite album. My favorite song is probably Anethesia (Pulling Teeth) but the new metallica just isnt the same and you all know that they still rock but just its not the same at all.

Scotti912 05-07-2004 03:04 AM

Why do some people only like the old stuff. I know the obvious answer because of diffrent tastes but is it because your a metal head and just like fast and heavy. Im not bashing so sorry if someone takes it that way. I like some metal but only few bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Megadeth. I listend too Death but I cant stand the vocals. And I really dont like the black clothes and trying to sound evil thing. The bands that I mentioned were writing about the truth.

Also my bands style is going to be Kinda like the sound of Load and mostly Reload.

I know you may be thinkin that this guy is just a n00b and has no musical knowledge but trust me Ive loved music forever and have learnt quite a bit from guitar playing to drums to piano to violin to bass to trumpet and Im self taught in all.

I also love Jetro Tull and Kansas type music.

I listend to Thick as a Brick album all the way through many times a month for those who know it.

Boy, I stray off topic a digress alot

sorry

This thread has the single greatest concentration of fanboys in the world.

If you think metallica is the best band even to walk the face of the earth, just check out some more thrash. In the end, you'll thank me. I used to think that, but after listening to extreme metal a while, I realized how wrong it was.

Happy thrashing \m/

Metallica was the best thrash I ever heard. Everything else, was pretty much a copy of metallica. I dont listen to them too much anymore, but they still hold a good place in my heart. I grew up on all the old stuff. My brother remembers me blasting Orion constantly when he was like 8yrs old. (hes a badass drummer now, go figure....) Dont get me wrong, Megadeth and anthrax all kicked ***, but no one did it like metallica, the same way no one did theyre genre like Pantera. They are the Final Authority.
BTW I think my fav metallica song is that One B-side cover, the Prince.

extreme metal, death, that **** is just to, well extreme. Theres no dynamic whatsoever. thats what was so good about metallica, especially on Lightning, master and justice. Great dynamic movement. chillin parts, slammin parts, and all in between. And Im sorry to anyone that thinks otherwise, you cant get any more extreme, or a$$kicking, than Dyers eve, period. All other wannabe metal styles bow down to Justice.

The only "death" style band i appreciate, is Opeth, Why? Dynamics.

just to list my favs and get it overwith.

Anesthesia
Four Horsemen
Blitzkreig

Ride the Lightning
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Trapped Under ice
Call Of cthulu

Battery
Sanitarium
Disposable Heroes
Orion
Damage Inc.

The Eye Of the Beholder
The Shortest Straw
yea yea One.
Dyers Eve
To Live is to Die

Helpless
Crash Course In Brain Surgery
The wait
The small Hours
The Prince

My Friend Of Misery
Outlaw Torn
The God That Failed

I've listened to other thrash. I don't care that much for thrash. I listen to music for the music, not just because it's thrash or some genre in general. I didn't start liking Metallica because they were thrash. The first cd I picked up by them was Load.

So now you know where I stand. Chances are what you call good stuff I would not consider it that great at all. It's called taste in music.

LordDargon 05-07-2004 09:25 AM

ToolOwnz - By "extreme metal" I meatn Thrash, Black, Death and Grind/Gore. Yes thrash is extreme enough to be extreme metal. Anyways pretty much all other thrash bands thrash harder than metallica - metallica hardly did any thrash songs. Dyers Eve was one of the thrash songs they did do. But it is nowhere near as brutal as about 100% of death metal and 95% of thrash metal. Check out Dark Angel, Exhorder, of course Slayer, Sodom, and early Kreator for some really brutal thrash.

BTW If you like Orion, then thrash is probably not your style anyways. Orion is a fuc.king mellow song.

/me gets flamed to death by all fanboys

superpeer 05-07-2004 09:43 AM

^ Kill 'em all is quite thrashy as well.

And some of ride the lightning.

Neither do the Titans you dumb f*cking fanboy. Old Metallica was great, but they suck now. Get over it. They're not brutal, they're not as heavy as they used to be, and they've aged greatly and show it. I waved bye-bye to the chance of Metallica ever making another great album after Reload was released, and don't tell me anything after Justice was great you tone deaf nimrod.

Here's to all those who fight against the sellouts. :chug:

Because I posted about this in the titans.

"Watch out! Fanboy attack!"

heh.

It wasn't aimed at you 'Dragon twas aimed at the narrow-minded fool.

We're all Metallica fans - hence we have this thread - but that doesn't mean we don't like other things too.

Photophobic 05-07-2004 10:34 AM

I thought the whole point of this thread was to keep the 'Tallica nuts away from the rest of the forum. It really pisses me off when people come in here looking for a fight.

two words: Who cares

music is whatever we want it to be. If those fans think metallica is the greatest then let them. Don't let it get to you, it's not like their opinions are gonna drop kick you.

That Kid 05-07-2004 04:10 PM

im going to actually post something that isn't flaming someone, trying to tell everyone that there's better music than metallica, or say that they're the poop.

does anybody know what kirk uses for the soft solo in my friend of misery? is it a wah or volume pedal...or it could be neither-im dumb

withoutaname_KsE 05-07-2004 04:16 PM

metallica sucks
wah

MetallicA_MaN 05-07-2004 04:17 PM

Sounds like its just a wah to me.

MetallicA_MaN 05-07-2004 04:18 PM

MetallicA does not suck...

withoutaname_KsE 05-07-2004 04:22 PM

wah as in a wah peddle my lil bro said metallica sucks

MetallicA_MaN 05-07-2004 04:22 PM

I'll catch you guys later, Im out.

That Kid 05-07-2004 04:36 PM

alright thanks. does anybody know where i could get a tab of that solo?

serte 05-07-2004 05:09 PM

If you're talking about the part when you can hear just the bass and Kirk's guitar, it's a Volume Pedal. I think it is, because in Cunning Stunts, he and Jason play the same thing and I read a chat in which Kirk said that in Cunning Stunts he used a Volume Pedal...

NailHead 05-07-2004 07:45 PM

What is Hammet's best solo, I've got a band concert coming up in a few months and I'm the lead guitarist, so I want to pay my tributary to Hammet with a wicked solo, but I can't find one that's hella fast and like, euber cool. Help me out here guys, come on.

That Kid 05-07-2004 08:29 PM

ive always liked the call of ktulu solo, but im not sure if hammett wrote it...it could've been dave mustaine because he wrote some of the song.

also, if you do choose that solo, don't use wah at the end like kirk does on S&M, it ruins it

ToolOwnz 05-07-2004 08:30 PM

I agree about orion.. But woudnt you say Damage, Battery, Leper Messiah are thrash? I think so..Im a Huge Slayer fan, so I can relate to thrash. But my point about dyers eve wasnt to compare types of genres, I meant extreme as just an adjective. I find most other metal bands to be sub par and generally imitating Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. I don't enjoy listening to music that is only 'brutal'. Slayer can be at times, but they also had things to say about issues, esp on South of Heaven, and Seasons, the 2 albums I listen to the most, (although I enjoy some of reign in blood and decade as well). Every other brutal metal band out there (except for Opeth, that Ive seen) only sings about necrophelia, etc.. i mean come on that **** is for kids...I know its all gimmicky but i hate gimmicks. A lot of what seperates the music I listen to from the music I wont are the lyrics. I personally dont understand why anyone in their right mind could listen to something like cannibal corpse. The music aside, the lryics sound like they are written by a depressed high schooler. When I was introduced to opeth I was like, great another death band that wants to **** dead corpses. but after listening to them (Ive only heard blackwater park, ) I was impressed by them. They use death vocals, which I dont care for, but he uses them dynamically, along with his great singing voice that offsets it and sets a great mood. Besides that the music is far better than anything ive ever heard from any "deathy" band..Which brings me back to Metallica, His lyrics had substance, and passion, something I did not hear from other metal, besides the ones I quoted.

Bodies fill the feilds I see, hungry heroes end,
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all,
Victim of what said should be, servent til I fall.
Soldier boy made of clay now an empty shell,
21, only son, but he served us well,
Bred to kill, not to care, do just as we say,
Finished here greetings death, hes yours to take away
barking of machine gun fire does nothing to me now,
sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man more stripes you wear, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see the slaughter never ends.

I do not hear any other extreme metal bands writing lyrics this good.

Guts and blood, bones are broken
As they eat your pancreas
Human liver, for their diner
Or maybe soup with eyes
Cause of death, still unknown
Gnawing meat, from your bones
Bone saw binding in your skull
Brains are oozing a human stump
Needles injected, through your eyes
Puiling off flesh, skinned alive

^^cannibal corpse lyrics, like i said, depressed high schooler prolly wrote these on a bathroom wall somewhere, LAME....

I would assume that its a volume pedal, although u could probably imitate it with your volume knob (if u dont have a noisy pot), and im not sure whether thats kirk or james, I know james likes to do the occasional solo or 2, (he plays with kirk on the harmony solo, my favorite solo on the record, only becuase i dont like any other song on the record :( )

gernm17 05-07-2004 09:23 PM

^ yeah is just the volume knob

and yeah metallica has some sick lyrics in all of master of puppets and ajfa

UnknowN Doodl3.2 05-08-2004 08:49 AM

Blackened is cool to sing when your alone. and don't have your guitar with you. The best way I've ever heard to explain the end of the world as we know it.

Squirrel 05-08-2004 09:07 AM

On My Friend of Misery my tab book says... "Swell with volume knob using right hand pinky". So yes, it's just volume swelling. Using both a knob or pedal will do fine methinks.

MetallicA_MaN 05-08-2004 01:49 PM

I got a Washburn Maverick Series Guitar a week ago, I've been trying to play some MetallicA, So far all I can play is the intro to sandman, Intro to one and the intro to Seek n Destroy. I get so discouraged my fingers wont go!..
