Ah you're in the lower circle though, which is a bonus considering you will be at the other end of the venue. It's going to be a great show.
Yer, I was a bit apprehensive about section 30 at first but it's probably not too far away from the stage.

Riva 10-27-2006 03:32 AM

Well, this sucks. It was always going to be tough to afford the concert, but I was going to make it. It was going to be tough to organise flight times, but I was going to make it.

Now I have unavoidable issues from Feb 4th - 6th. Good times...

Bleh, at least I have my albums.

*coddles all Roger Waters and Pink Floyd merchandise and music to chest*

rippa32 10-27-2006 03:50 AM

Where do you live? It seems strange you have to fly. Isnt he covering all capital cities?

Jim 10-27-2006 03:51 AM

:( That's sad.

I was willing to fork out the big bucks, but my friends weren't. We made a compromise and got silver tix. The seats better not suck or I'll hold a grudge something shocking

dUSK 10-27-2006 03:53 AM

That sucks hard Jason. :(

rippa32 10-27-2006 04:05 AM

The seats don't look to bad in brisbane for silver.

Jim 10-27-2006 04:23 AM

I haven't been to Rod Laver (Melbourne) for a couple of years, so I can't really remember if they'd be any good. Here's hoping. :chug:

rippa32 10-27-2006 06:07 AM

I am so excited about this, with the freedom of a 2 3/4 hour set I hope he plays the fascist parts of the wall, its definately my favourite parts of the album musically. Lyrically would have to be all of disc one.

Jim 10-28-2006 11:46 PM

I read this set list in the paper...

In the Flesh
Mother
Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Have a Cigar
Wish You Were Here
Southampton Dock
The Fletcher Memorial Home
Perfect Sense
Leaving Beirut
Sheep
Speak To Me
Breathe
On the Run
Time
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money
Us and Them
Any Colour You Like
Brain Damage
Eclipse
The Happiest Days of Our Lives
Another Brick In the Wall part II
Vera
Bring the Boys Back Home
Comfortably Numb

That's pretty almighty. It's not In The Flesh with the "?" either, so it'll probably be the one during the "at the show" section of The Wall. Good to see he's dusting off The Final Cut, too. Would like more solo stuff though :(

MattSharpIsCool 10-29-2006 12:50 AM

Wow that looks like a pretty amazing set.

I havent heard much of his solo stuff. I downloaded "Pros and Cons", but I didnt like it. What is his best solo album?

Jim 10-29-2006 12:54 AM

Amused to Death. It's amazing. But if you're not a fan of Roger's style, you may not like it. It's easily his best solo album, though.

MattSharpIsCool 10-29-2006 01:16 AM

Since we're talking about solo stuff...

I bought David Gilmour's "On An Island" the other day, and it's awesome. Are his other solo albums any good?

Jim 10-29-2006 01:37 AM

Not quite. They're a little more low key. On an Island was quite epic in comparison.

MBS 10-29-2006 01:48 AM

I just saw Australian Pink Floyd at the Greek Theatre. Awesome show.

Jim 10-29-2006 01:53 AM

They're the best tribute band apparently. I'll see them one day :(

What they play?

MBS 10-30-2006 10:23 AM

Full Dark Side of the Moon and a bunch of assorted singles, I can't remember. I just remember that their version of Comfortably Numb and Set The Controls... were superb.
Not quite. They're a little more low key. On an Island was quite epic in comparison.
His self-titled solo-album was pretty much on the same level as On an Island for me, if not a bit better. Haven't heard About Face yet, but I'm pretty sure I don't really need to either.
I should check out Roger's and Rick's solo-work. Especially Rick's seems interesting. :)

telemore 10-30-2006 01:55 PM

Hrmm, I just 'rediscovered' my love for the Floyd a few days ago. :)

Atom Heart Mother is on the block for tonite. :):)

His other ones are a lot different. His self titled is mostly blue rock stuff and About Face is mostly 80's pop. I can enjoy both of them when I am in the mood.

Surf 10-30-2006 02:59 PM

has anyone heard nick mason's solo work? i think he recorded one album with someone, but its pretty much ignored by everyone. it was probably rubbish to be fair...

Kingofdudes 10-30-2006 04:21 PM

Heh, if you guys think About Face is horrible, you arent going to like this album he worked on. The single from it, Lie for a lie, is...... very 80s. Here is a link to the video.

Gilmour sang on the track

robo2448 10-30-2006 04:58 PM

I have Gilmour's solo debut. It's okay. Pretty good I guess.

I also have Wet Dream by Wright which is very good.

Yield 10-30-2006 06:42 PM

A Saucerful of Secrets is one of my favorites right now. I'm listening to the title track and it is wonderful. Jugband Blues is also another great song from the album. I prefer some of Pink Floyd's early stuff to albums like Wish You Were Here.

ghettoeddo 10-30-2006 08:49 PM

nonetheless, wish you were here is so good :]

i JUST got around to learning the title track...about time i say.

Riva 10-30-2006 08:51 PM

I wish more people knew about Richard Wright solo, I love it. He's pretty damn talented away from Roger's thumb.

robo2448 10-30-2006 08:58 PM
I wish more people knew about Richard Wright solo, I love it. He's pretty damn talented away from Roger's thumb.
Wet Dream is an awesome album. And it's right in that period between Animals and the Wall when Rick was supposedly going through that creative block. I think the album proves that Wright still had some pretty creative ideas but was too intimidated by Roger. Because there were certainly some creative ideas that came out on the solo album.

Riva 10-30-2006 09:00 PM

Especially Pink's Song, I love that.

Wow, I've never even heard of this album. I'm going to listen to it right away.

The title alone sounds good.

Riva 10-30-2006 09:06 PM

Listen to Broken China too, Night Of A Thousand Furry Toys is great.

robo2448 10-30-2006 09:48 PM

Yeah I don't have Broken China yet. I think I saw it on the same blog I downloaded Wet Dream from though, so I'll look and see if I can download it.

Kingofdudes 10-30-2006 09:48 PM

It's too bad that both of Rick's solo albums are out of print. :-(

MattSharpIsCool 10-30-2006 09:55 PM

Rick Wright is the man. Something about him just makes him cool.

I suppose I should download some more solo stuff by the band.

Anyone listen to Syd's solo stuff? I've got both of his albums on my computer, and they're pretty good. Even after he went crazy, the man could still write some decent tunes.

Lunch 10-30-2006 11:27 PM
Rick Wright is the man. Something about him just makes him cool.
It's the beard.

And yea, Syd's solo albums are quality, definitely worth having. I prefer the Madcap Laughs.

Leper 10-30-2006 11:31 PM

I don't really like Syd's s/t album. Unless you get a deal, I wouldn't bother buying it.

MattSharpIsCool 10-30-2006 11:38 PM

I do prefer Madcap Laughs over his self titled, but I still thought it was pretty good. Its definitely more polished than his first.

robo2448 10-30-2006 11:46 PM

I don't have s/t but the Madcap Laughs is great. I also have a rare compilation thing of his that has a bunch of great solo stuff.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-31-2006 12:27 AM

Madcaps is great but I think it could've been so much better; worthy of a Pink Floyd album. It's problem is: it's more of a collection of song skeletons stripped bare of production, the other members of the Floyd, and most of all, attention; it most resembles a demo than an actual flowing album. I mean what could the Floyd've done with a song like "Octopus" (with Richard's keyboards in there and all) or even "Golden Hair"? It would've been extremely interesting to see how the results would've turned out with the rest of the members embellishing the songs with drums, bass...etc. Too bad.. :(

MattSharpIsCool 10-31-2006 12:56 AM

Ya, definitely. That would have made a very good album, I'm sure.

Jim 10-31-2006 02:20 AM
I wish more people knew about Richard Wright solo, I love it. He's pretty damn talented away from Roger's thumb.
I finally found Broken China last week after spending months tracking it down. I've only given it one listen and my first thoughts are that it's a little drawn out. :(

There were definitely some good individual tracks though. I'll have to give it a few more go's.

rippa32 10-31-2006 04:36 AM

I was watching an interview on youtube of Waters and he was saying that Nick Mason didn't do anything in the band writing-wise. Is this true? Didn't he write his own section of Ummagumma?
