Tom Gabel is a loser.

Henrik 08-31-2007 08:40 AM

Bahh Stop pretty much sucks!

I have come to enjoy Borne On The FM Waves quite a lot, but I just wish it would have been acoustic.

Edit: It is a tatto of the New Wave cover art that Tom has gotten on his elbow?

Yeah, but he's had that for awhile now. I know he had it when I saw them in March.

Henrik 08-31-2007 08:56 AM

Allright. I just took a look at your favorites on youtube. Damn that Erik Petersen performance looks awesome!

SkaRobotArmy 08-31-2007 09:53 AM

yea, if you look in the insert he is credited with the cover art so its probably something he made a while ago.

If you don't mind a really long video, the end of this has two (all the battery left on my friend's camera) Erik Petersen songs on it. This was the "Skunkape Circus Tour" that came to my friend's house and a bunch of really cool folk musicians played in his basement. Johnny Hobo, his little brother, Erik, and more.

Yeah, I noticed that tattoo looked a lot like the cover art. It's a cool cover, not so cool album, and a kind of lame tattoo.

Yeah, I've definitely watched that video more than a healthy amount.

Microwave meals & ideals 08-31-2007 10:16 AM

The "talk to the hand" movement Gable does at the start of Stop always makes me smile. Cool tattoo too, I think the New Wave art is probably my favourite AM! art.

Henrik 08-31-2007 10:25 AM

My favorite is by far the cover for Reinventing Axl Rose!
That cover just simply rules!

And I hate that "talk to the hand" movement. I don't know if it means anything really but it just looks stupid.

AIRIC 08-31-2007 10:30 AM

My favorite cover is ATEC hands down.

Flagjacket 08-31-2007 10:56 AM

what is there to like about the New Wave cover.

It's a fucking stencil of a cat.

Scuba_Steve 08-31-2007 11:00 AM

the sink, florida, sink "7 had the best cover tbh.

thepo 08-31-2007 01:23 PM
they're just a band, i don't know why people take everything they do so personally. besides, between tom and warren they have probably done more activism than most people ever will - warren was involved in the opening of 2 infoshops before he was even 19! not to mention all the florida radical activist network work and food not bombs and immokalle farm worker support and youth liberation camps and diy camps and theatre of the oppressed and blah blah blah... and zines and multiple bands and of course, "why freegan". and they're nice as hell and sincere people and you seriously have to have a sense of humor about what they do - i mean warren went train hopping and came back with a homemade 'youth gone wild' tattoo. they're silly! and they don't come from privileged backgrounds, they have worked incredibly hard and played and toured like crazy and it's pretty crappy to get pissed at them for accepting more money for what they're doing. it's ****ing great to see such nice people doing so well...
the first time i heard them play it was in the ocala forest for a may day gathering and it was just tom and kevin, playing on buckets and it was amazing... their shows are still as good as they were then, they're just different. if you don't like change then you're not really punks anyway.
But you're missing the point. The new album blows. Hard.

Agreed. Ratatat - Classics is a better cover.

santi3hg 08-31-2007 02:44 PM

My friend got this tatooed on him.

Johnny Quest. 08-31-2007 03:41 PM

That's one of the best tattoos on that section, the one that is similar to that is so poor, i'd hate to have it on my body forever.

SkaRobotArmy 08-31-2007 04:57 PM

thats a solid tatoo.

AndreTheHyena 08-31-2007 09:43 PM

I once considered an Against Me! tattoo. I've considered a lot of tattoos. And yet I end up getting ones that are spur-of-the-moment and stupid.

I liked that video of AM! on Letterman. I like "Stop". I like the new album.

Twin Human Highway Flares 08-31-2007 10:14 PM

I think Stop is kind of awesome for the kitsch factor. I go back and forth on this one though.

I thought for a while about getting AM! tattooed really small on the inside of my wrist. I might still do that. I'm not into hugely visible tattoos.

Scuba_Steve 08-31-2007 10:30 PM

getting any band tattooed on you is pretty dumb IMO.

I could see maybe a lyric or something that means alot to you, but not a band name or logo.

Twin Human Highway Flares 08-31-2007 10:47 PM

But if you grow out of a band enough to hate having their name tattooed on you, couldn't you grow out of a band's lyrics enough to hate having it tattooed on you? Or is it dumb for some other reason?

thepo 09-01-2007 01:47 AM

Dude, totally go for a Mountain Goats tattoo also if you haven't already. I loved a lot of Against Me!'s lyrics, but John Darnielle totally destroys them.

Agreed. I was thinking maybe AM! on one wrist, tMG on the other. That'd be fecking swe't.

Scuba_Steve 09-01-2007 10:54 AM

at least if you grew out of the lyrics you wouldnt be permanently advertising a band on you skin.

AndreTheHyena 09-02-2007 01:19 AM

Lyric tattoos I've considered:
"There's a joy in all I can see" (AM!, of course)

"Both feet on the floor, two hands on the wheel, may the wind take your troubles away" (Son Volt)

"I see a darkness" (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy)

I'd still get any of those.

Henrik 09-02-2007 04:27 AM

That Son Volt Tatoo would be pretty huge.

AndreTheHyena 09-02-2007 02:32 PM

I'd probably get it as a border or a frame to another piece.

obese_breasts 09-02-2007 03:19 PM

I saw AM! yesterday, and there was a full on stage invasion during "Walking is Still Honest" I found myself next to Tom at his mic during a chorus. It was awesome.

Liebensaft 09-02-2007 08:13 PM

Yeah, their shows still rule most of the time.

Johnny Quest. 09-03-2007 02:56 AM

They're touring the UK in October, the date near me is at a pretty small venue, but i expect it to be packed. I've missed the last couple of gigs i've wanted to see (Set Your Goals, Converge among others) because of stupid reasons, if i miss this one i'll be pissed.

Henrik 09-03-2007 08:35 AM

I'm going to see them at an awesome venue!

If it sucks it can only be the band's fault :)

obese_breasts 09-03-2007 02:41 PM

Last time I saw them was in a tiny cramped club with only 1 window and it was ****ing amazing.

mullets suk 09-03-2007 04:58 PM

if i got an against me tattoo (or any tat for that matter) i would just do initials or something. so A[lightning bolt]M!

SkaRobotArmy 09-03-2007 08:08 PM

yea, i've seen some pretty badas's band tatoos but i still don't think i would get one. generally the coolest are tiger army and dropkick murphy's that i have seen. AM! could be solid though too, but i would more likely get a lyric

Liebensaft 09-03-2007 08:21 PM

I don't have any immediate interest in a tattoo, but if I were to get one, and I decided on Against Me! lyrics for it, I'd have a hell of a time trying to choose what I wanted. That and it'd have to be relatively short. I don't know how many lines of theirs I can boil down to one small phrase that I like enough to have drawn on me forever.

mullets suk 09-04-2007 04:18 AM

http://www.againstme.net/am.php/fans/imagefullw/fan_image_we_laugh_at_danger/ as long as i never get something like that i'll be happy.

Angry Balled Fists! 09-04-2007 09:20 AM

im thinking of getting the two people from crime to remember or to forget tattoo so that it symbols my love for the album and that era not the band as a whole im not sure

Cliche 09-04-2007 07:58 PM

I just thought of the absolutely perfect Against Me! tattoo.

"If It doesn't matter now, than it never really did."

From The Politics of Starving.

Not only because it's an awesome Against Me! song/lyric, but because even if you don't like Against Me! when your older, it still has lots of relevance.

Flagjacket 09-04-2007 09:00 PM

You mean like so you can look at that tattoo when you're old and go "oh that's true because I hate that band"
