nice to post back in here, i have been sick, didnt go to school today. andy you finnaly got an avatar, what does j'adore mean?

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 12:35 PM

i don't know the exact translation...braintoad did it, so ask him...must be something like "I like"

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 12:41 PM

I put as meaning I love, because j'aime seemed to little for how much Andy likes Joe.

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 12:52 PM

J'adore roughly translates as "I touch myself in the shower to thoughts of"

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:11 PM

i was crawling through a festival way out west...i was thinking about love and the acid teeeeest. :p
i was crawling through a festival way out west...i was thinking about love and the acid teeeeest. :p

A test they did in the 60s and 70s with LSD and other types of drugs named "acids". Psycadelic drugs and such. A doctor (can't remember his name, wrote a book called Electric Kool Aid something or other) used to give acid to some people and watch how they reacted etc.

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:26 PM

oh, thanks.

i think there's an other song on streetcore with acid test in it...i think it's all in a day at the beginning.

guns_of_brixton 05-05-2005 02:37 PM

A doctor used to give people acid? Thats pretty messed up.

I was wondering... and I'm pretty sure... but all of the Clash smoked, right?

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 02:39 PM

Remember this was the 60s and 70s, acid was still in its testing stages and they were not sure what exactly it could do. It is the same for most other drugs on the market. Cocaine was given to many patients for pain, the same with herion until the addicitive properties were releised.

Acid is by far one of the safer of the man man drugs, not as many bad chemicals as say cocaine, herion, and meth.

But this is off topic, so I shall stop.

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:40 PM

cigarettes and pot.

and mick was once arrested cause he had cocaine in his pocket or something.

Ahh, I see, but bad acid trips can mess you up, unless I'm confusing that with another drug. I shold've payed attention in health class .

Yea, I rember hearing that Mick was doing cocaine when they were recording Combat Rock.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 02:47 PM

Bad trips do happen, but are few and far between. Heatlh classes in the US now are pretty much useless. I'm in favour of Jello's sex and drug education classes, where real life examples are used (kids get to try drugs and sex first hand to learn them)

The Clash don't seem like a band who would do too many of the hard drugs. It just doesn't seem them to me. I couldn't imagine Joe becomming a herion addict like so many other rock stars.

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:49 PM

but Topper WAS an heroin addict.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 02:49 PM

Drummers don't count, they always do stupid stuff :P

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:50 PM

you're talking about the LG right? :p

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 02:52 PM

Who?

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 02:57 PM

I don't remember his real name...you know, the lamborghini guy...who was the drummer for the clash before Topper.

guns_of_brixton 05-05-2005 03:01 PM

Terry Chimes.

And I've realized how bad a drummer he really is. He played the drums on Capital Radio One and Topper played them on Capital Radio Two, and Topper is just messing around with the beat and showing how much better he was than the LG.

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 03:05 PM

plus topper wasnt playing music to buy a car.

Yeah, if you watch him on the essential clash playing Career Opportunities, he's barely keeping up.

Topper would've pwned that beat.

I think if they had re-recorded their first songs with Topper, they would've sounded so much better.

But they also would've sold out. So it's good they didn't.

i love the self-titled the way it is, even if the LG played on it.

He was the reason that the Clash didn't play very fast on their first album. It would've really sucked if he stayed with the Clash.

Forest_Fire 05-05-2005 04:12 PM

I don't have the self titled, but a lot of songs on there are on the essential clash.

I looooove Streetcore; easily my favourite cd at the moment. Which mescaleros cd should I get next?

guns_of_brixton 05-05-2005 04:21 PM

Global a Go-Go, possibly.

CombatRock 05-05-2005 04:28 PM
I don't have the self titled, but a lot of songs on there are on the essential clash.
then i guess you have never heard Whats my Name? its on s/t but not on essential clash.

Coma_Girl 05-05-2005 04:32 PM

probably global a go-go cause there's johnny appleseed, cool'n'out, shatkar donetsk and bhindi bhagee.

on the other hand, rock art and the x-ray style is a cool album name and there's tony adams and yalla yalla (the best song ever) on it.

it's crazy how all the greatest songs ever have been written by joe strummer.

Silvermedalmafia 05-05-2005 05:06 PM

I love the intro beat to self titled. It's so simple, but it works so well with the song (janie jones). But yeah, Topper is a better drummer, especially how he uses the hi-hat.

Forest_Fire 05-05-2005 05:30 PM
then i guess you have never heard Whats my Name? its on s/t but not on essential clash.
Nope, is it really good?

I have yalla yalla and tony adams on my computer already. And johnny appleseed. I'll probably get both eventually anyway...

CombatRock 05-05-2005 06:07 PM

yea Whats my Name is a good song. i dont remember were i saw this but i saw a clip of them playing it live. and when they were playing it Joe pointed at the camera in the middle of the song i sang "see now were on the Tv what does it mean to me what does it mean to you FUCK OFF! i always loved that part , classic joe
