ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6. so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
i have some friends at school who play guitar like me i stick just to the classic stuff...before i played i use to like Linkin Park, Korn, all that crap. playing guitar changed me. i hoped that it would change them, but they still listen to slipknot and that crap but yet, they like hendrix and zeppelin too. |
They created the 1st real punk sound. besides velvet underground but I dont like Lou Reed

You sound like a teen that just got into classic rock.
Stooges anyone???
MC5 > Stooges But I love The Stooges. Self titled is good, but it gets kind of dull after awhile. Their other albums are great though. :) I pulled out American Beauty today. What a perfect album. Okay, so what's everyone's opinion on The Grateful Dead's American Beauty? |
The Grateful Dead........not a fan........lets get a good topic
|
No, The Grateful Dead are loved by pretty much all of us, but you.
|
I for one on American Beauty can not find a single song that i dont like on it. my favorite song on it would be either ripple or friend of the devil. without a doubt it is my favorite studio album by the dead.
but i do think all the songs are definitely about a million times better performed live. but of course thats only my opinion. :) |
I love the stones.. i just have such a connection between richards/jagger!!! i love all their stuff, and also love their bluesy rock style... did any of you know that they got their name from a Muddy Waters song? Some of keith's solos are eargasmic, such as the one in gimme shelter, or sympathy for the devil.
|
My favorite track off of American Beauty, would have to be "Brokedown Palace" and "Sugar Magnolia" :).
|
whoo hoo.
No, The Grateful Dead are loved by pretty much all of us, but you.
Sorry to say, but i'm not a huge fan either. |
Grateful Dead were one of the bands that invented the sub-genre. There were some bands before and around same time as them that contributed.
Not a big fan of The Stooges but I do agree they were one of the first punky bands. Another pioneer band was Blue Cheer. They helped create the genre also. Grateful Dead is a band pretty much displaying perfection. American Beauty is... just... wow! Favoritte song is definately "Box of Rain". It's just a masterpiece. |
Who would win in a boxing match: Page or God?
|
God, nobody can take God.
|
God, nobody can take God.
It was a joke you downer -Zac |
I mean...the correct answer is: HA! ITS A TRICK QUESTION! PAGE IS GOD!
-Zac |
WOW!!!
That was pretty hard to watch... |
American Beauty is such a relaxing album to listen to. "Sugar Magnolia", "Box of Rain", "Ripple", "Friend of the Devil" - all great stuff right there. I just wish I could find the CD of theirs with "Touch of Grey" on it, I love that song.
|
^ In the Dark :)
I also really like Workingman's Dead. I'm a bigger fan of their rootsier style than there Psychedelic style. Especially when they play Bluegrass, like on "Cumberland Blues". |
I think I will check out both aforementioned albums.
|
Good stuff, I have a lot of Grateful Dead MP3s that I want to get albums for (so they're legal I guess). Really good pick-me-up band. :)
|
Lynyrd
Skynyrd all the way. My all time favorite band. |
The doors

Humor what would you recommend for a first album? or badmoon for that matter.
Humor what would you recommend for a first album? or badmoon for that matter.
yea i want to get into them more too. also i wanna get "music from big pink" by the band... |
If you're talking about The Grateful Dead, then go for Workingman's Dead or American Beauty. I'd also reccomend you get the first self titled, but it's probably not the best album to be introduced to them buy.
|
American beauty is awesome. Truckin in one damn fine song :)
I got Jeff Healey band- "Feel this" today :D Only $6 and it was in great condition. I'm also reading the beatles biography. They did some wild stuff before they got really popular :amaze: |

Nice job :thumb: I'm going to go to the used CD today. Buy myself something with Warren Haynes, probably something with him in Phil Lesh and Friends. |
Yeah, warren is awesome. Anything that he does is always top notch (of course the allmans are always top notch no matter what).
Did anybody else think Greg allman was black for a year before they bought an album by him? :( :shame: |
No...
|
heh, I feel bad now. :upset: (of course without actually seeing him, and some of his solo stuff is pretty bluesy/jazzy I had no way of knowing.
SO how 'bout them beatles???? |
They play music :)

I love Blue Oyster Cult!!! :thumb: They're actually on tour now, I wonder what that's like. Too bad the closest venue is 8 hours away. Are there any prominent females in classic rock??? The only ones I can think of were those in the Velvet Underground |
the closest venue to me is an hour away i think i'll go.
