Nothing Pelican has done touches ( ), I don't know what you guys are talking about.

TojesDolan 07-19-2007 06:56 PM

Do you mean the Sigur Rós album or the unnamed song in Australasia?

AA-12 07-19-2007 06:57 PM

I don't even have Australiazn, send me a link or something.

Poofy 666 07-19-2007 06:57 PM

The only Pelican song I like is "Autumn Into Summer", everything else bores me :-\

Agreed. Amazing song.

stupid dream 07-20-2007 05:09 AM

Hey while reading this thread I'm listening to Pelican's Untitled from the Australasia album again, and I think it's one of their finest moments. Opinions?

Zebra 07-20-2007 11:44 AM

Austalasia is their best album.

Their new one is absolutely terrible. It's just a bunch of repetitive, boring riffs that drone on forever.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-20-2007 01:58 PM

Exit faggot mode.

Listen to it again.

bwnstl 07-20-2007 02:42 PM

Yeah, it's actually quite good. Not as strong as their previous stuff, of course, but still good.

Kage 07-20-2007 02:44 PM

Based on interviews, they had a different mindset in writing City of Echoes. They just wanted to rock out on it, which they did. It's a really good listen but obviously it fails to reach out as much.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-20-2007 04:52 PM

Yeah, it is definitely less epic than Thaw, but it's one of the most head-bangable post metal albums I've heard.

Indeed, they tried to 'get to the point' faster.

antihippy 07-21-2007 07:25 AM

post-rock/metal =/= getting to the point fast.

lol what a skewed perception of "rocking out" they have

Kage 07-21-2007 11:35 AM

That's what makes it at least mildly interesting.

Actually I must say, City of Echoes is boring the fuck out of me right now. I don't know if I'm just not really in the mood for it or what...

Raider 07-21-2007 05:28 PM

I've been a huge fan of Pelican ever since the day Thaw came out, which was the first post-metal/rock album I've ever heard, and it's definitely had a hand in defining my tastes since then. I love Thaw and Australasia intensely, but City of Echoes just doesn't do it for me. They wrote the album with a live crowd in mind, wanting to get right to the point to better draw in a live audience. This defeats the whole purpose of Pelican for me. Ever since I first heard them, Pelican has been ALL about the slow buildup, the intense climaxes, the evolving song structures. To get "straight to the point" casts away all the aspects of their music that made me love Pelican. I hope their next offering has something more enticing for me, but only time will tell.

Static 07-21-2007 09:26 PM

Anyone here listen to Ef?

Kage 07-21-2007 09:27 PM

They're pretty gay.

lies

Kage 07-21-2007 09:35 PM

The fact that they have album titles like "Give Me Beauty...Or Give Me Death" and expect those titles to be taken seriously alone makes them laughable. And that's beside their generic music.

who give a **** about song titles?

and yes their music is kinda generic, but they pull it off really well

Static 07-21-2007 09:56 PM

I like it. :)

bwnstl 07-23-2007 11:22 AM

I finally listened to the four A Silver Mt. Zion albums I have over the weekend. I have to say, they're quite good, and a lot more digestible than their counter-part, GY!BE. The only irksome thing about them is when the vocals come into play....wow that dude's voice is bad.

EF is generic post-rock, but still enjoyable to listen to.

Kage 07-29-2007 09:28 PM

This just in

Takk kicks the shit out of ( )

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-29-2007 09:29 PM

I told you that like ****ing 8 months ago.
