Yeah, I found that to be really dumb...

I'm surprised that the Herald actually put that on their website.

JohnXDoesn't 10-09-2006 01:46 AM
that guy's an idiot.

People go watch older bands because they want to hear the hits. From a musician's standpoint, playing the same old **** sucks. New material is where its at.
and its great new material. he didn't even pay it lip service. what an as.s. he complains they did twelve new songs (some of which were the abbreviated Wire And Glass songs) and if they hadn't he would of called them a washed up oldies act, i'm sure. and then he quotes that imbecile who said they were always bad and couldn't play their instruments and people wanted to hear Hermans Hermits instead back in the day when they toured together.

of course the idiot didn't mention The Who were opening for Hermans Hermits so of course everyone hated them. and that The Who came out onstage with people expecting Herman and what they got was this offensively loud band breaking up the stage instead. The Who kicked as.s on that tour. and they loved being hated. they thought it was funny. poor Hermits following the 'orrible 'OO. that must of been beautiful and a lol...

but of course dick face misses the whole point!
I think they’re tryin’ to catch me writin’ dirty, tryin’ to catch me writin’ dirty. . .
Yeah, okay, what a brilliant way to end the review. Sure, Herald puts that on their site but doesn't even make an article about Tool, at all.

Ephemeral 10-09-2006 11:33 AM

that's it

I'm looking him up in the phone book, and we can all give him a nice talking to.

>: )

EDIT: There are two Nick Lewis's to choose from.

Seafroggys 10-09-2006 01:24 PM

I'd just e-mail the guy. I'm sure there's contact info on their website.

Though I'm pissed. I swore you could bring cameras to the concert, but no, I took a look at my ticket and it said no cameras. Pisses me off. Did anybody get a chance to?

Oh, btw.......32 hours.

EDIT; Happy birthday Thunderfingers!

blue3 10-09-2006 02:06 PM

All tickets say no cameras/recorders. The security guy saw me holding my friends camera and didn't do anything about it. Maybe it depends on the venue.. who knows.

& happy birthday John Entwistle.. and Lennon.

yeah Happy Birthday, Ox. You dumb, dead badtard :upset:

so far as the camera issue? i think its more a venue thing. or just general policy. i've read interviews with Pete and he doesn't care. he wants people to take pics. meh....

Ephemeral 10-09-2006 11:27 PM

My history teacher, who was on the floor near the sound mixer, peeled off/stole the stickers that said official Who sound mixer or whatever.

http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/seafroggys/The%20Who/

Here's all the pictures I took of the show. Sorry, its a 6 year old digital camera with no zoom lens, but I'm more then happy I got these. Most of them were of the Tommy encore, and I'll explain why a bunch at the end are blurry as hell. And the pictures don't show it, but we were closer then it appears. Oh, and they're in backward order.

So we get there (my dad and I). The opening band (Rose Hill Drive I think their name is) did about 5-6 songs, and I liked them. They were a good band, got a positive response. I'm sure they knew no one was there to see them, but they did feel honored playing the same stage as The Who.

So then the stage is readied for the Who. And finally, Pete walks on, spotlight on him. The whole crowd goes in an uproar. And as do I. While Roger walks on, it finally hit me.....holy ****, they're real! They ARE REAL, AND THEY ARE RIGHT THERE! Just a basketball court away! I started flipping out. The rest of the band came on, and Pete launched Can't Explain. Roger launched his mic in every which way. I was standing and going ballistic. During the solo, Pete did two quick windmills, and the crowd went crazy, as Tommy hit....oh, sorry :P Yeah, but a huge cheer happened during those first windmills.

Then The Seeker and Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere. My memory is kinda blurred about the order, but I'm sure its the same as the last couple of gigs. During the mini-opera, people began sitting down (those lame bastards) but I stood up for as long as I could until my dad thought it would be best that I sit down so I wouldn't block everybody behind me.

Right as Behind Blue Eyes started up, some chic behind me dropped her keys into my seat, and demanded I search for them WHILE THE MUSIC WAS STARTING! I came to watch the ****ing Who, not find some keys. Luckily, it took me 2 seconds, but I was pissed.

The guy running the pre-recorded tracks started up what was Eminence Front, but Pete had him cut it out so he could introduce the band. Speaking of which, they were all amazing. Zak was ****ing awesome. Pino did good. Simon did some good backup vocal work (and it was his birthday). Mr. Texan man did his thing. So it was good. Roger hit every note all throughout. Pete was moving around and windmilling and did the occasional scissor-kick jump! :) I can't believe these guys are in their 60s. More like my dad in his late 40s.

I know I'm going kinda out of order with the music. But Baba was right after the mini-opera, and everyone went berserk. Especially when the guitar came in. And EVERYBODY sang along to the bridge. Man, more audience volume than Pete! Amazing. And more cheers when the harmonica was whipped out.

Real Good Looking Boy I really liked. I never heard the song before, but I really liked it. I like nice homely C Major songs! Heh....

Then came Won't Get Fooled Again. Occasionally I felt Zak slip slightly out of time with the backing track, but he quickly recovered. It was kind of lacking energy in the beginning (I'm sure they were tired) but built up continually until the break. And then Zak's drum intro thing started, and I began freaking out (I'm a drummer, and it was cool, and yeah). I wanted to get a photo of the scream, but I wanted to enjoy the moment rather than process it. And OH MY GOD! I screamed so loud, as well as many others in the crowd. "Meet the old Boss, same as the old Boss" **** yes. Good times, I can't explain. Heh.

So they walk off, and I immediately gun it to rush the floor for the encore. I got to the bottom of the stairs, but there was like two people watching it, so I huddled myself into a row. Then came up the Tommy medley (which is, I'm sure you all know, my favorite album). Pinball Wizard came on, and I was like "OMG pictures!" Half of my pictures were of the encore I'm sure

The person I was right next to sucked. It was some teenager (high school age I'm guessing) with his girlfriend, and he was slightly excited for Pinball Wizard, but not any of the other songs (probably one of those shallow wannabe poser CR kids). And they kept kissing each other. MY GOD! Even if I dated the hottest chic in the world, I WOULD NOT WANT TO KISS HER AT A WHO CONCERT! The Who deserve all my attention, not some broad ;) . Anyways, the kid kept looking back at me because I was screaming and going insane and dancing and enjoying the music! Heh, stupid loser. Anyways, Amazing Journey was cool, but Sparks was so ****ing awesome! It probably rocked harder than anything else that night. It was also like 8 minutes long. Roger broke a tambourine.

Then came the moment I was waiting for. Roger picked up the mic, Pete strummed an Ebmaj7 chord, and Roger sings "See Me!" I was in a trance. I got several pictures of that as I reverred in my favorite song. Someone whipped out a lighter (which I wish I had). Then the interlude into Listening to You, and I jumped so high and pumped my fist high into the air to salute the Gods of Rock. I began singing along so loudly and dancing so hard! Some drunk guy came down and kept on wanting to sing to me and kept on turning me around, but we just jumped up and down and sang along and it was glorious. One of the most beautiful, greatest moments of my life. And I remember very little of it, but my god I haven't been this happy in so long. it was pure bliss! Unfortunately, I never stood still for all the bazillion shots I took, so they're all pointing which way and blurry. But still.....man.....yeah.

They get done, and the two break out into Tea and Theatre. It was a beautiful way to end the evening. When they sang the line with "Its just the two of us" or whatever the line is, the audience cheered. You will always be with us, John and Keith. Always.

And then Pete gave us his greatest thanks, and they walked off. Not until I exclaimed "Guys, you will NEVER grow old!"

robo2448 10-11-2006 04:06 PM

That sounds so awesome. I know what you mean about the people next to you. I had the same problem at Bruce Springsteen.

Broken Arrow 10-11-2006 04:09 PM

For me it was CSNY.

JohnXDoesn't 10-11-2006 05:42 PM

Ephemeral 10-11-2006 09:00 PM

Sounds like you had a great time!

I didn't sit down the entire concert.. If I did, I wouldn't be able to see :D:D

Ephemeral 10-13-2006 10:54 PM

so who's next (lol) for seeing the who?

Seafroggys 10-14-2006 12:02 AM

i see them every so often.

Still, I have bits of the concert flash by my eyes, and I get totally excited and excstatic. I never had this with McCartney.

Ephemeral 10-14-2006 01:24 AM

omfg you've seen McCartney too?

I AM COMING TO REAP YOUR SOUL.

So you live in Portland? Seeing as you went on the 10th.

I wanted to go to the show so badly, but the only price for tickets I saw was $350. How much did you pay?

Drunken Viking 10-14-2006 01:36 AM

Shit, I really wanted to see The Who but tixs are like 100$, I'm debating if it's worth it.
omfg you've seen McCartney too?

twice. October 18, 2002 and November 5, 2005. Plus I saw Ringo on August 27, 2001.

But The Who seriously owned it. I planned on getting floor seats, but the moment the website went up they were already sold out. I had just got a job so $100 wasn't that big of an issue, I easily make that in two days (or did, until I got fired).

Anybody figure out how to link sub-albums in a photo bucket?

Drunken Viking 10-14-2006 02:04 AM

Christ you have a good memory.
