Bwahahaha!!! Exactly.
Does any one know the name of the song Daron plays and sings after the prison song at the Reading festival 2002 or 2003? He sings some thing about, way back home, 1000 nights before and so on.
Do you mean the festival in Lowlands, Holland in 2001? If not, then they did it then too. As far as I know (which isn't much) that's probably just him improvising as alot of musicians tend to do during live shows. Or that was written as an after thought for Prison Song one day and they decided to stick it on. Dunno, but I don't think it's actually a seperate song. Whatever it is though, I rather like it. And that's my blurb for the evening. Farewell my beloved threaders. |

yeah thx :) |
You know i do believe that even their extremely random songs do have a meaning (or a theme at least) behind them. Viscinity of Obscenity and Bounce are both definately about sex, Chic n' stu is about advertising, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On this Song is about drug addiction i guess, (although i'm far from sure on that one). It kind of seems like they put songs with odd lyrics on the album on purpose with the intent of leaving them open to interperetation.

That's old news. Daron said it was about advertising in a magizine article around the release of STA. |

And you'd never know that by listning to the song  |
I'm just saying that was confirmed in an article.

This is a real change of subject here, but ive searched thru most of this forum (at least, as much as i could) and i found that most everyone is talking about thier soph. album and up (from what ive seen, couldve missed some stuff). So what about the album System of a Down? My other (very possibly stupid) question about that is are they anti religion, anti christian, or is that "left up to interpretation" as well?
p.s.- please nobody get mad at me for asking |
The album System Of A Down is referred to as Self-Titled or S/T, as the album is named after the band. Thus Franz Ferdinand is also Self-Titled. You see? So we've been talking about it all the time.
SOAD are Christian (I am unsure which subgroup), which stems from their heritage as Armenians, the oldest Christian nation on earth. How tightly they cling to those beliefs is uncertain, though. |
Chop Suey seems like a pretty religiously-driven themed song.
At least.. you know. That about about forsakenness. |
The reason I ask is mainly because of the lyrics of Suite-pea.
I dont have them handy, but some thing about jesus being a "her", and dying for "her"philosofy, and the falling of a christ, or maybe I'm just thinking to hard? Honestly, i didn't know anything about armenians, though i have heard SOAD referred to as such. Something else i have a little trouble with is this- what kind of metal are they? There have been many a discussion about this, I say they are heavy. Any other ideas? |
I'm just dropping in to say hello....and I'm in love with Mezmerize I think it's a brilliant album

However, the closest I think is nu-metal, minus all the bad stereotypes associated with the label. Then again, you get songs like Roulette and Aerials and that just throws genre classifications out the window. |

Smashing Pumpkins do it in "If There is a God". |
Everytime I see or hear the word Armenian (or Armenia or anything related) it always makes me think of the Armenian Genocide...so depressing.
Yes...yes I find Genocides interesting...yes...yes I'm odd. On another note...I don't like labels. The only good kind of labels are allergy labels and labels that tell you what's a poisonous substance that you shouldn't ingest and what's fine to snarf down in astounding time intervals. And on a note completely off topic...I lost my grad ring.:upset: |

Read the thread, and Fuck the System |
Yay, I turned 18 today and my gf got me STA. It really is an awesome album. I'm digging Ego Brain, Roulette, I-E-A-I-A-I-O and Thetawaves. And Highway Song. Fcuk what everyone says about these songs not being "good" enough for Toxicity/whatever. They're brilliant tunes in their own right.
|
STA is a very good album. And it's not that the songs weren't good enough for Toxicity, their were just too many songs. And some songs on STA were written even before Toxicity. Roulette for example was written 8 years before STA was released.
|
Chop Suey seems like a pretty religiously-driven themed song.
At least.. you know. That about about forsakenness.
and Bounce! is the complete opposite. |
I wouldn't waste your time trying to classify system. Every album of theirs is distinctively different.

Don't even bother. You spend so much time telling people that you don't release a song with 30+ songs on it, and they will still simply think they "weren't good enough" anyway(if that the case, any song on STA would have been better suited on Tox then "Shimmy"). |
Mr. Jack or I-E-A-I-A-I-O are best songs on STA imo. Either would fit toxicity, but like they said above, there were just too many songs to fit onto one album. It's kinda same as mez/hyp, except they released it a couple years apart instead of 6 months.

Those are pretty good....but Streamline has to be my favorite off of STA. |
Shimmy is a cool song. I'd say Jet Pilot is the worst song on Toxicity.
|
^ Jet Pilot ftw
