Just out of interest, anyone know what Joe's epitaph is?
hmmm good question...maybe something like "one day truth and justice will reign"..ive seen it written on commemorative tshirts or whatever.i really dont know...and i wonder who wrote it...

let's do something...we all write what we think should have been written on his tombstone.

TheNowhereman42 04-12-2005 10:04 PM

ramshackle is a british term for broken or thrashed or worn or whatever

ive never heard anyone say that before

Forest_Fire 04-13-2005 04:20 PM

woah, cool new title.

Last night I was listening to one of my clash cds and then I heard a song that I had never heard before. It was craaazy.

It turned out to be "Stay Free". Good song

CombatRock 04-13-2005 05:22 PM

i looooooooove stay free..micks voice in it is so good...the ending lyrics are so good...what a great song...does anyone know who the song is about, mick is clearly talkinga bout a friend?

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 05:25 PM

i hate mick's lyrics most of the time.but the ones to stay free are good...which makes me think that maybe joe helped him a bit...mick was kinda 'selfish' when he was writing lyrics compared to Joe, cause he kept writing sentimental songs.

CombatRock 04-13-2005 06:09 PM

did the clash do it as if you wrote the song you sung it?

TheNowhereman42 04-13-2005 06:13 PM
ive never heard anyone say that before
I dunno, my parents say it, and so I figured it was british. Its not slang or anything, I think the dictionary lists it as meaning rickety or poorly made.

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 06:22 PM
did the clash do it as if you wrote the song you sung it?
no joe wrote lost in the supermarket, and mick sung it.
and quick question: did paul write the lyrics to guns of brixton?

sketchyjoe 04-13-2005 06:26 PM

I'm pretty sure he wrote the entire song as he's the only one listed as the songwriter on the album.

Silvermedalmafia 04-13-2005 06:28 PM

yeah, I think he wrote the lyrics.

i believe so

AIRIC 04-13-2005 07:04 PM

This is still here...

Forest_Fire 04-13-2005 07:08 PM

If I remember right, mick and joe told paul that if he wrote a song, he would be the one to sing it if he wanted

metty16 04-13-2005 07:13 PM

^^^that's what i heard

guns_of_brixton 04-13-2005 07:19 PM

Paul arranged every instrument and wrote the lyrics for The Guns of Brixton.

And for Joe's tombstone... it could say... "Death or Glory, becomes just another story". I don't know... maybe Joe would'nt want that on his tombstone.

guns_of_brixton 04-13-2005 07:22 PM

Did Topper write Ivan Meets G.I. Joe? I know he sings it, but I don't know if he wrote it. And also, I believe the The Guns og Brixton is the only Clash song written entirely by one person.

EDIT: 1400 posts

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 07:23 PM

i'm surprised, cause I really love the lyrics of guns of brixton, and i didnt know paul was a great lyricist...

guns_of_brixton 04-13-2005 07:25 PM

Yea, and he said in Westway that he actually wrote it because Mick and Joe got most of the money, and he wanted a slice.

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 07:32 PM

and they went to jamaica together with the money and left him all alone in london with no money.sad sad.

TheNowhereman42 04-13-2005 07:43 PM

and then they finally did thake him and they all got mugged ><

guns_of_brixton 04-13-2005 07:46 PM

Haha. But I did some research (not very extensive) and found out that Brixton is the neighborhood in London where Paul grew up in, and still today, it is a shitty place with gangs and stuff.

TheNowhereman42 04-13-2005 07:47 PM

my friends live in manchester and they're always nearly getting stabbed by f'ucking townies

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 08:01 PM

i need to go there someday, seems like a lot of fun.

CombatRock 04-13-2005 08:06 PM

yea i was going to say that!

did paul even write the drums to Guns of Brixton

guns_of_brixton 04-13-2005 08:10 PM

I don't know what a townie is... but getting stabbed isn't good.

Oh, and I think my dad almost saw the Clash in '82.

Coma_Girl 04-13-2005 08:11 PM

townie must be a british term.joe used it all the time...i think it means someone from the 'big city' or something.

almost?
