If I could I would see DT ANYDAY!!!!!
---- Off topic ----- Is it just me, or does Never Enough sound EXACTLY like Hysteria bt MUSE, or any muse song???? LaBrie rips Bellamy's voice so badly. He sucks. And Intro to Octavarium is copy from Shine on ya crazy diamond by PINK FLOYD. they do like to copy from others dont they........tut tut..... Still love 'em though.
Yeah..... listen to the guitar as well..... STOCKHOLM SYNDROME!!!! Also, "I Walk Beside You".... U2 or what?!?! |
Yeah..... listen to the guitar as well..... STOCKHOLM SYNDROME!!!! Also, "I Walk Beside You".... U2 or what?!?!
The fact it's supposed to sound like Muse doesn't bother me, I love Muse. |
Also, "I Walk Beside You".... U2 or what?!?!
My thoughts exactly. |
The first song i heard was Lines in the Sand (LIVE :D with the videoclip) and i absolutely loved it.. i think it's even better than the original song..

Check out this drum solo by the Dream Theater drummer, it's wicked awesome!
...
Surrounded The Mirror Another Day ...
Well with James singing those it'd certainly be an interesting show. Although his voice live does seem to be getting a lot better. I've got the Arrow Rock Festival bootleg and he's perfect for almost the whole gig, and there are some fairly hard songs in there like Metropolis and Learning to Live. I'm going to see them on the 26th of October anyway, 3 rows back, I don't really have any preference as to what they play though. |

so i am going to see DT live soon. I love DT but have never seen them live and was wondering how they are.
|
That drum solo was impressive but very boring. Neil Peart's solos have spoiled me. :)
Portnoy just sounds so schizophrenic. Peart at least modulates around a really sick beat. |
I agree that was really boring, and not all that impressive IMO. It was like a Joey Jordison solo with better playing and slightly less repetition.
|
The clips of Portnoy on www.drummerworld.com are awesome.
|
Yeah good video.

Why did Petrucci cut his hair? :x |
cuz he looks cooler with it short
|
I think he'd look cooler without that goatee thing he's got. Unless he shaved it off.
|
I purchased Octavarium.
Besides Panic Attack, all of the songs are horrible, commercial, stinking turds. The only good thing about the album besides Panic Attack is the intro to Root Of All Evil, it prepares you for another awesome, heavy segment in the AA saga yet it turns into a horrible pop rock song. *cough* sell outs *cough* I still have Train of Thought to love. |

I think he looks like your average football dad :( the huge fluffy hair suited him way better IMO |

Sacrificed Sons, 8vm, and These Walls are definitely the best songs on the album... though These Walls is far from perfect.
I think he looks like your average football dad the huge fluffy hair suited him way better IMO
Agreed. If you didn't know him you wouldn't expect him to touch a guitar with a ten foot poll. |

Panic Attack is mediocre at best. The rediculously trite lyrics don't help the song either. Labrie's Bellamy impersonation is annoying and pointless. The song is a numetal song and if you think that's real DT than you should stop listening now. 2. You call the Root Of All Evil a pop rock song? Well atleast it doesn't have the infamous rapping in This Dying Soul. 3. If you think they have never writen a "pop rock" song before, than do yourself a favor and listen to "Another Day" or "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream" or "Through Her Eyes." They're all pop rock songs. In fact, Through Her Eyes is even more so an R&B-Pop song. So, don't complain about Octavarium having "pop rock" songs when they've already written many and it is part of their style. 4. Do you even know what a sell out is? |

I agree. I quite like the songs you mentioned, but the ones they wrote for 8vm were incredibly bad. |
I disagree. Octavarium wasn't all that bad. Sure, it isn't my favorite, but there still some okay songs on it. It sort of grows on you
|

Yeah, I Walk Beside You is quite poor. I think the Answer Lies Within is alright. It's not a bad song, but there isn't much to it. |
The Answer Lies Within is an awful attempt to recreate Another day.
I Walk Beside You... I can't hate that song enough. |
I love Awake, that is all.
I really didn't appreciate this album enough when I got it. I thought Train of Thought was their best attempt at heavyness... Whoa... |
i found this file on ares...you might be able to find it on kazaa or such, its called octavarium, its not 8v...but this song...is just amazing...sounds like dream theater, complete 12 min instrumental. its not real drums though...and i know its not on any of DT's albums. could someone tell me who it is? or what song?
if someone wants, i can send it you. |
How does it sound anything at all like Another Day?
erm because it's a pop-rock ballad perhaps? |
Except that TALW doesn't have any rock to it at all. It's more of just a pop ballad. Another Day has distortion guitars and a solo.
