I'm so confused. I replyed to your message before you sent it...

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 03:05 PM

It's a mystery woo woo woo

Bluesman522 07-27-2004 03:17 PM

creepy

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 03:20 PM

sometimes we spamzor too much in this thread. like we get off topic.

On topic is anybody else completely sick of Kiss? I mean seriously, their music is annoying and repetitive and they're just one big gimick. Their fans are pretty much the stupidest fans in music (not because they like kiss cause they can do what they want, because Kiss just attracts those kinds of people). The kinds of people who are impressed by explosions and 30 second guitar solos that are of medium speed and difficulty.

Anybody else with me??

*prepares for a flaming* :(

B0nz0 07-27-2004 03:58 PM

i agree completely. they have one good song. just one. and it's merely good. it's not great. i'm not even going to say what it is cuz it's rather obvious. that and the makeup scares me. You know gene simmons majored in education in college? could u imagine having him as ur teacher if his music career fell through?

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 04:02 PM

^that would be kinda cool actually ;)

B0nz0 07-27-2004 04:04 PM

i dunno, he would throw up blood all over ur tests and scare the crap out of the third graders. i mean i'm pretty sure we're talking elementary school here...

Technical music means shat to me. And I like Ace's guitar work.

B0nz0 07-27-2004 04:47 PM

What do u guys think of the beach boys. I think they are amazing. I love the vocals, the harmonies, the catchy songs, the surf guitar, the upbeat music, and well pretty much everything about them. What do u guys think?

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 04:49 PM

The beach boys started a whole revelution (both of American lifestyles and music) on their own. I have much respect for them. Their music is so catchy. I can't help but loving them.

Humor99 07-27-2004 04:52 PM

I love the Beach Boys, but what I can't understand is everyone's obsession with Pet Sounds. The only song on that album that I really like is "Wouldn't It Be Nice," the rest just doesn't grab me. Too mellow maybe? I don't know. Anybody feel the same?

B0nz0 07-27-2004 04:54 PM

i especially love songs like "little deuce coop", "fun fun fun," "help me rhonda," "barbra ann," "kokomo," "come go with me," "the sloop john b," and "dance, dance, dance."

of course i love "surfin usa," "surfin safari," "get around," and "california girls" too, but my absolute favorite beach boys is def "good vibrations"

and about pet sounds, i don't actually have it but i like a bunch of the songs on it, like god only knows and i think the sloop john b was on that too. hmmmmm. o well i like it.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-27-2004 04:55 PM
No, I fully agree. I have never understood the love people have for Kiss. Mediocre music, a seriously overdone boring image...I just don't get them. Anyone care to explain why they like them?
i used to agree with you. I was not a Kiss fan at all. Until i saw them live. There is something about a Kiss live show that brings new fans into the band. Kiss are not about technical playing or impressing people, they are about the songwriting and the message. 90% of their songs are about sex and the way they craft them is fantastic. Granted the good musicians in the band came later in their career (Bruce Kulick, Eric Singer) the original lineup and the sound and the attitude to attract fans the way they did. No one had a live show like Kiss, not even Alice Cooper (whom Kiss learned alot from) and if you ask anyone who played a les paul in the 1970s and early 80's they would tell you it was becuase of their love for Ace. Kiss is so universal to listen to, theres no thought involved when putting on a Kiss cd...their music is uplifiting, catchy, and memorable and thats something that alot of musicians cant be taught is having the right ear to write music people want to hear and not just want you want to make. Also, it had to do with the time period. Kiss were the band your parents and society hated you to like, and thats what drove so many fans to them. They werent affraid of pissing people off and when Kiss came out they wanted to give people the best bang for their buck with live shows because they felt to many bands cheated people out of a memorable live perfomance. Kiss were what kept the fun in rock n roll whereas to many people take it to sersoiusly by putting so many restrictions and limitations onto a rock band. Its hard to explain, but if you ever get the chance to experience a Kiss live show youd have a new respect for them...not to say youd like them, but you might get a better understanding where it came from. :thumb:

I guess I can say I like "God Only Knows" too, but most of the album is just not for me. I like the older Beach Boys material, but I guess it's just an opinion.

what are ur thoughts on "good vibrations" then?

and some of their later stuff was great, like "kokomo".

and for the record, surf guitar is my favorite style of guitar. i mean there's no way you cannot love it...

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 05:10 PM

God only knows is my favorite song by them. Well from what i've heard. :) :) :)

Badmoon 07-27-2004 05:18 PM

I love Pet Sounds. Every song is great, IMO.

It's also funny that on most greatest albums lists, Pet Sounds is almost always #2, and number is hardly ever the same.

RockAndRoll 07-27-2004 08:24 PM

I don't really like kiss. I find their songs mediocre at best. 90% of songs are about sex... and their music is about the message? I think that'd get a little bit repetitive. They are about impressing people, more so then I would say they're about the music, what do you think all those explosions and all that makeup and such are for? I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I saw an alice cooper show a while ago and he put on a great show, due in large part to his theatrics - It's just fun to be up there (which is what kiss is actually about). They just seem mediocre to me. Sure if I went to one of their shows I'm sure I'd have a good time. Unfortunatley that's about as far as my liking kiss (at all) goes.

I really don't like gene simmons (from a seeing him in interviews perspective) but that's a whole other story.

I've got to check out the beach boys some more though.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-27-2004 08:51 PM

i saw Alice a week after i saw Kiss and both were fantastic stage shows, differnet kinds. Alice as you know is more theatric while Kiss are more over the top with fire and explosions. Its really a thing with Kiss, either you get it or not...i didnt get it but then it clicked, just dont count them out forever :) you might like Ace's solo albums though!! try "trouble walkin'" or his 1978 Kiss solo album for a good idea what they are like.

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2004 09:11 PM

Alice Cooper is gimicky like kiss but I love alice cooper. His songs are great. I don't care for his antics but i'd go to a concert for the live music and experience.

jpn211 07-27-2004 09:13 PM

I started to like classic rock by listening to my dad's cassette of the eagles hell freezes over, and i got hooked. Zeppelin is by far the best. Rush and Van Halen are really good too. and the yardbirds are very underrated, for the talent they had as the first real guitar band, i believe. but i never got into the beatles, ironically, i find them annoying.

Badmoon 07-27-2004 09:14 PM

Gimicky...How so?? The makeup? Just ask yourself, if you heard some artist wears make up, would you check him out? That is if your talking about that. :)

Rock'n roll 07-27-2004 09:33 PM

yeah Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Eric CLapton,Jimi Hendrix, CCR, Allman Brothers, Lryryd Skryrd, The Beatles, Rolling stones,etc....

Humor99 07-27-2004 11:22 PM

Ah, sorry, forgot about those.

I'm not too brushed up on Beach Boys discography, so I don't know exactly where each song falls. 'Endless Summer' is probably my favorite album by them.

BludgeonySteve 07-28-2004 10:19 AM
Gimicky...How so?? The makeup? Just ask yourself, if you heard some artist wears make up, would you check him out? That is if your talking about that. :)
The makeup yes... The snake and all of the on stange antics aren't so much gimicky but I don't care for them.

the mighty zep 07-28-2004 10:43 AM

I never had a big thing for Kiss either. I was watching a special on them yesterday...probably on VH1, and it went over all the stuff they did to make it big time, and how much better live was than CDs, and how full of themselves they were. But i still dont like them that much. But not because of the makeup or fireblowing things or whatever...i just dont enjoy their songs that much

Broken Arrow 07-28-2004 11:59 AM

They only had one song i acctually liked and that was in th 6th grade

BludgeonySteve 07-28-2004 12:16 PM

Yeah that sounds right. Ever notice that AC/DC and kiss have the exact same fans? If you're an AC/DC fan you like kiss. Strange no? Exept I like AC/DC and I don't like kiss. But every other AC/DC fan is also a kiss fan. Am I just not normal or are there other AC/D fans that don't like kiss?

magicbus 07-28-2004 12:36 PM

I don't really like Kiss at all, and used to like AC/DC, but not so much anymore. They have a lot of catchy songs, but I'm starting to get kind of annoyed by them. I guess I'm not really a fan of either.

the mighty zep 07-28-2004 12:38 PM

thats because Kiss and AC/DC are both in music for the same reason...Loud, Insane, Larger than Life Concerts to get the fans pumped up and crazy. But All AC/DCs songs sound the same...and their guitarist admitted it after a later album came out. I still love the band, but having two albums is like havings all their songs.
