I lurk in this thread on occasion. I usually don't have much to add to conversation since a lot of the talk has to do with college, and I am but a lowly sophomore in high school.

I need some help doing some write-ups before the first drummer poll can go up. Anyone want to write some?
|
I'll try to cover a few of the ones I know about, or if it's ok with you I could just get the links to those threads I made on Bonham, Baker, and Moon.
|
Haha. Yeah that works too. If you could do some others too, I'd be grateful. No pressure though.
|
I'll look into Brann Dailor, he's a great drummer, and Mastadon is the only band on that list I really know much about.
|
So, uh, sup thread. I hope my resubmission of my review got submitted without any problems....I'm such a sputnik n00b. :upset:

Sure, send me some names to my email: tojesdolan@hotmail.com and I'll cover them, either today or tomorrow. Or use this forum. I'm good at inflating egos and making something seem important. |

We chat idly on our myspace pages....... which is cool as hell because they are like my idols........... |
Yeah. I do know John is a very cool guy and doesn't really act like a "rockstar snob" or anything. It's awesome they interact with their fans so much.

Thanks, man. I appreciate. I also apologize for just now seeing your above post. Haha. I have more metal drummers that I'm not familiar with if you want to try your hand.

Just finished watching "Dial M for Murder" and I really love the dialog in the scene of the night of the murder where they're talking about the perfect crime. I wish I live long enough to write something that great.
I've also gotten to thinking lately. I've come up with another short movie, one that's going to take me considerably less time to create. Working title right now is "After Midnight." It's about 5 minutes long, noir-ish, and is mostly a collection of scenes with a single character wandering through town with his voice-over narrative describing his fall from grace. The ending is a scene of the man standing on a bridge. He lights up a cigarette, but doesn't actually take a puff off of it. He just stares at it a moment before looking out to the scenery in front of him. Final lines: "All things considered, there really are no mistakes. Just learning experiences. I'm still young. I've got plenty of time to pick up the pieces and make something out of it." At that, he tosses the unused cigarette into the river and walks away. This is probably going to be the most minimalist idea I've ever come up with, but I think it might be cool. Now I just need to work on the script, pick out some locations, and put together some music. |
Dial M For Murder is a great movie. I love how the inspector is so darn pompous, but still gets the job done.
Also, My Fair Lady absolutely blows anything written these days away. It's superior in terms of acting, direction and script. |

I'm still in high school, but my friend and I are pretty big into filmmaking. I usually write the scripts and my friend directs, because he's better at networking and finding actors, people with good equipment and locations. It's pretty amazing what we've done so far with a budget of $0. Sounds like you have more resources than we do, though. We're currently working on a movie about a performing magician who can kill people and bring them back to life. It ties into an older story I wrote in which this same character, at a younger age, was held captive by an evil man (who is actually more of a ghost). In this movie, that man has come back to haunt him, and so he stages his "Grand Finale," wherein he dies and brings himself back to life with the sacrifice of three other people. We're working with a guy who's got a Canon XL2 camera, it looks really great. He's also got some decent lighting, so we're basically working on the best visual piece we've made thusfar. Our only big problem is getting actors and locations. We were able to fanangle one hour a day in a local nightclub, so we've been shooting the magic scenes there. We're also going to have to figure out some way to film a car wreck. |

Sure thing, just let me see if my internet doesn't wake up dead tomorrow. I'll send you the bios to your AIM email, or I'll send them to your preferred email account as soon as you log on. You can do the same thing with the other drummers. |

Along with Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Seven Samurai, Man with the Screaming Brain, Usual Suspects, and The Howling. So I picked up Carnival of Souls; sex, lies, and videotape; and Witness instead.
That sounds interesting. What college do you go to, by the way? The film resources are scant here aside from cameras and the like, but that's just forced me to be more creative.
Sounds like you have more resources than we do, though.
 You'd be surprised. You know what I'm using for a boom this summer? A $30 unidirectional mic I bought at RadioShack duct taped to a spare plastic broom handle from Lowes. You know what I use to light most of my sets? Where I don't have natural lighting, I string up Japanese lanterns I bought at Target for 5 bucks a pop. My actors provide their own wardrobe. I mostly write around props I already own. I have my own camera (Canon ZR80), and am trying to get my own editing software, but technically speaking I really don't have much. Leni Riefenstahl used that concept to its fullest to film Olympia.
We're also going to have to figure out some way to film a car wreck.
That's going to be a bitch. |
