OMG Jake, we are both listening to Sigur Ros!

Just finished listening to ( ), now I'm listening to assorted tracks from Agaetis Byrjun.

Mezzanine is now downloading. :)
I absolutely love the title-track from Agaetis Byrjun. So beautiful.
Only thing is the drum machine part. It makes me think that Haake could be a phony............
Catch 33 is the only Meshuggah album that has used a drum machine. It was more of an experiment in repetition that the guitarists conducted. They made the demo with the drum machine they programmed, and eventually decided that since Haake would be able to play the parts live anyway, they mastered the demo and added bass, Jens' vocals, and released it. Tomas Haake is the man, though. Seriously, an impossibly good drummer.

Moses 10-30-2005 10:46 PM
You don't think Haake could pull that off? The only song I'm not sure Haake could pull off that was done with a machine would be War. But only because thats inhuman..
?????

I thought War was actually him. It's not inhuman and I think he could do it. I don't actually think he's a phony, I was just kidding about that and I've seen live vids of them before so, yeah. But I can't think of another drummer that does the things he does as well as he does.

Isn't he behind most of the music that they do?

Huber 10-30-2005 10:47 PM
Huber-80's prog rock seems like something South Park would make fun of, so I'm guessing yes.

Kage- YSI to spiralout7@gmail.com plzomgihaverep

Enya sounds like some kind of digital voice box that has been pitch shifted, and quad-tracked.
You'd be surprised, the South Park guys know music.

Anywho, there's an episode where Cartman admits he can't leave some things unfinished. So, Stan would just sing "Cooooooome sail awaaaay!" and then Cartman would sing the rest no matter what. It was great.

No, War's a drum machine. Yeah, inhuman was an exageration. Thats still some mad good drumming... I'm sure he could do it though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2005 10:48 PM

When I was at my friend's house, he started playing the beat from Stengah, and I jumped in on guitar(like 3 steps up, but so what?) it was awesome.

Of course, I couldn't keep track of what was going on, between the 5/4 and 4/4 parts, so I just sat down and watched him. He owns. So hard.

Huber 10-30-2005 10:49 PM

Learning drum parts to Meshuggah songs is fun. You feel like a God when your finished and can play it.

Moses 10-30-2005 10:49 PM

Be in a band with him then Jake.

Huber, wanna do a Meshuggah cover? I'd like to do vocals.

Kage 10-30-2005 10:50 PM

NP: A Silver Mount Zion - Babylon Was Built On Fire

Anyone who likes Godspeed or post rock in general owes it to themselves to check out ASMZ.

Do Godspeed have a track called A Silver Mount Zion?

My drumming recording quality is crappy, but I could give it a try.

I can play Elastic and NMCC.

I'd do guitar, if I had an 8-string, that is.

Huber 10-30-2005 10:58 PM

Having an 8 string would rock balls.

BlindWriting 10-30-2005 10:59 PM

Oh those goofy looking eight stringers and their pure-evil sound. I love it.

They REALLY perfected the sounds of their guitars on Catch 33.

I don't think so...

Jake: Sent.

So true. The guitar tone on C33 was awesome.

Moses 10-30-2005 11:04 PM

There are some songs that you don't need an 8 stringer for have no idea which ones though. Meshuggah vocals are easy to scream but I keep forgetting about the time signatures.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2005 11:07 PM

I'd love to be in a band with him, but he goes to a community college an hour away, and he works at Borders in that town, so he's rarely at home. It was really fun though, because he's a big PT fan. He's actually the one who convinced me to check them out, so I really owe him a peice of my life.

Plus, I'm sure he's at a level where he'd rather perform with people that are closer to his level of expertise.

Kage- 6% of 2 files (23 megs, wtf!)

Pre-Nothing songs only require 7 strings. I'm pretty sure they're tuned down half a step to Bb, as well.

BlindWriting 10-30-2005 11:07 PM

Didn't they not start using eight stringers until the time between Chaosphere and Nothing?

Oh and Frederik Thorendal (sp?) is definitely an underrated genius.

:upset:

It must have the wrong tags or something then.

Hagstrom is the pivotal writer in the group isn't he?

Do you know what album it is supposedly on? I might be able to tell you the real name of it.

Long songs. Didn't know they were that big, though. You'll be pleased with them, though. :)

Moses 10-30-2005 11:12 PM

I love the guitar tone on War.

/NP War

Does anyone else love chocolate milk in here as much as I do?
heh i think u guys should relax a lil and stop scrutnising every detail in everythin you see. whos that guy with the big hair?
That's Buzz Osbourne, lead singer and guitarist of Melvins!

Melvins, in case you didn't know, are an awesome band. They invented grunge, so they're obviously a big influence on Nirvana. In fact, Kurt was so grateful that after his band got huge, he helped Melvins get a record deal and even co-produced/played on a few tracks on Houdini.

Melvins are a combination of Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, and Metallica. That's as best I can put it, they're really slow and oppressively dark, but not quite "doom metal" dark, you know? Buzz has a very distinctive guitar tone, not unlike Adam Jones (the tones don't sound the same, but I mean they both have instantly recognizeable ones).

Yeah.

and, Yeah.

Ian- I think it's cool how Jones basically uses the same core setup as quite a few metal and rock guitar players, (Mesa Rectifier/Boss distortion) yet he still creates such unique tones.

Kage 10-30-2005 11:20 PM

Actually, he uses a Mesa, a Marshall, and a Diezel at the same time. Heh. But, yeah, his tone is really unique.

And, you must be crazy for not listening to ( ); it blows me away every time.

Huber 10-30-2005 11:21 PM

Is Sigur Ros hard to get into? I see that () album at best Buy all the time and I'm tempted to buy it.

Kage 10-30-2005 11:22 PM

Ehm, it took a little while for me to get into it. I listened to ( ) once through and then shelved for about two months, but when I took it back out, I was amazed to see how much it had grown on me. Regardless, it's worth it to get into them. Their new album is great too.

BlindWriting 10-30-2005 11:24 PM

The song Agaetis Byrjun got me hooked on them. I still need to pick up a full album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2005 11:25 PM

I'm beginning to think that having a good tone is overrated. Some idiots are like "I know my playing is crap, but check out my wicked tone!"
