Broken Social Scene- Broken Social Scene. Excellent album.

JonM 12-20-2006 02:38 PM

This Brightblack Morning Light album is really nice.

sweboy 12-20-2006 02:41 PM

Thanks for reminding me JonM, I've been meaning to get that.

Pirate Satellite 12-20-2006 02:44 PM

Hey, I love Brightblack Morning Light!

Besides that, a lot of My Morning Jacket, Lee Perry, Built To Spill, Explosions In The Sky, Pavement, and Desmond Dekker. Keeping it classic.

Ys is growing on me more since I'm starting to adjust to her voice.

and FutureSex/LoveSounds is really awesome.

Scritti Politti - Songs To Remember
Arthur Russell - The World of Arthur Russell
The Associates - Sulk

Songs to Remember is funny. Kinda corny, but at the same time, enjoyable for a soul fan like me. It's almost as if Stevie Wonder was reincarnated as an English post-punker, except not quite as good as that might sound. The Arthur Russell is a comp I already had downloaded, but it's a sweet one so I bought it on the cheap. Soul Jazz is the best. Classically trained cellist makes NY Dance tunes. Guy created some really unique grooves and he couldn't sing at all, so you know he's a rising fave for me.

Anxious 12-20-2006 06:35 PM

I'll have to check that out. Love me some Soul Jazz records and 99.

Robert Crumb 12-20-2006 06:44 PM

I wanna get The Sexual Lives of the Savages or whatever it's called, the Brazilian new wave/post punk comp they put out a while ago. I bought a different one called Nao Wave and it's kinda interesting.

Robert Crumb 12-20-2006 06:51 PM

Yeah, I'dda downloaded that shit. As a matter of fact, I just did this afternoon.

Electrocution 12-20-2006 06:59 PM

Sounds like Arto Lindsay would be on that one.

I never end up listening to their lyrics. I probably should.

well for the most part they're unintelligible. i can only find lyrics for four songs online, but i'm getting the LP for xmas (on purple marble so hott) and i'm hoping that will have all of them.

edit: apparently it doesn't :(

Anxious 12-20-2006 08:28 PM

Ouch.

I also require the guitar tab for "Opium" that I will never get.

i hate it when i listen to cool music and don't even care about the lyrics, but then it turns out they were good after all.

like Every Time I Die's first album, great asskicking lyrics.

Is that the electronica band that covered the Metallica song?

Zmev 12-20-2006 10:05 PM

Either way, there is a version of "Fade to Black" by a band called Orbital.

I've been on a pop rap kick for a looooong time now, but I think this Joanna Newsom might just pull me out of it.

Why do people talk more about Hell Hath No Fury (average) than this? This is sweet.
