My guitar teacher wants me to learn this Gilbert warm up thing

http://s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2G27JPESJJLVC3B54XLPV0M4N5

It's in Midi. He said it's meant to be played at 180bpm, which I've put it to. Now either he's got that tempo wrong or he's expecting a wee bit too much of me.
If this is warm up then what's the actual target

I've always wondered how you pick at these speeds. Is it tremolo picking or super fast alternate picking?

Lord Abortion 03-28-2006 10:40 AM

I had alot of acting today in preparation for my A level Theatre studies exam on friday...we're just about OK.

Paul Gilbert uses it to warm up, you know what he's like.
That piece itself is mostly hammer-ons and pull offs but when I try to pick at those speeds I usually find myself tremelo picking.

kurrpt 03-28-2006 10:42 AM

ill have to take a look at that exercise....

but at that speed, id alt pick

My GT is like that, he loves the whole Steve Vai routine.

Yeah. I only realised the other day that most of the excercises he gives me are Paul Gilbert's or sound like it.

kurrpt 03-28-2006 10:50 AM

not too original huh

Mr. Black 03-28-2006 10:54 AM

This week I had to go over all the scales I've learnt in the last year.

I hate my Metronome.

kurrpt 03-28-2006 10:57 AM

the metronome is your friend

Lord Abortion 03-28-2006 10:58 AM

Holy arse!

I had over 100 Cannibal corpse plays last week!

Obviously that doesn't even count the few times I listened to Vile on the stereo...I think that's the highest score ever...I didn't think I had even listened to them that much though...
I just got Kill and Vile last week though, that's allowed:p

I know, and it's helped me do the scales far better, but whenever I messed up I felt like it was laughing at me.:(

kurrpt 03-28-2006 11:00 AM

hahaha..

sounds like a good thing to me boss :thumb:

do you consider yourself an "active" person?

blue3 03-28-2006 12:25 PM

My friend is like that. She always complains about being tired when she woke up from her 2374238 hour sleep. It's weird.

kurrpt 03-28-2006 12:36 PM

its cause they never do anything. Their energy levels are so low normally, that they never try to increase their endurance, and its just a downward spiral.

Metabolism can be a bitch

Damn, you're tellin' me. I love eating, but never gain any weight...

kurrpt 03-28-2006 12:50 PM

it took FOREVER to gain weight man!

Josh 03-28-2006 12:51 PM
do you consider yourself an "active" person?
yeh, i would say so. i mean, i walk the dogs for 40 minutes a night, i go rabbit shooting, i have a horse that i ride fairly often, so it's not like i do no exercise, it's strange. although, it has been nagging away at me since christmas that if i screw up this term, it's my uni place i'm losing out on, so it could be stress-related.

kurrpt 03-28-2006 12:52 PM

that seems like EXTREMELY low impact exercise man. I wouldnt consider walking a dog "exercise" unless it was a jog. Most of those examples you mentioned, id hardly consider those aerobic

gmoneyguy 03-28-2006 12:53 PM

Its really wierd how I loved psychology in High School but now I hate it in College.

i tend to run for about half the dog walk :(
it's still better than never going outside though, and at the weekend i'm normally outside for about 4 hours a day minimum, mucking out the horses and all that crap.
i try and eat fairly healthily as well.
meh, just gotta live with it i guess.
i'm off out now anyway, later.
it took FOREVER to gain weight man!
I've pretty much stayed the same size all my life. I was a chubby baby, but I quickly got thinner. I guess I have a real high metabolism, because I'm such a skinny guy (145 lbs, 5'9") but I dunno...

whats the problem? Does it just not excite you anymore, or the group atmosphere is too boring?

Honestly, the other students made it unbearable for me at Uni. i would never take a psych class again for that reason
