Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell

Anxious 07-16-2007 11:01 AM

Sebadoh- The Freed Weed

This album is hilarious.
I think The Strokes are good.
Is This It is good.
Room on Fire is good.
By the time Room On Fire came out I had lost interest in them, so other than a couple of songs, I've never heard it.

But yeah, This is it really isn't bad.

Boilermaker 07-16-2007 11:07 AM

That album brings me back to last summer, because my cousin played it constantly.

It's actually pretty tight.

asdf 07-16-2007 11:09 AM

It seems to simultaneously bring me back to 8th grade art class where I listened to it all the time, and the summer after freshman year, where I sat in the same friends basement every day.

So it's not bad memories, it's just lame ones.

The Blasting Concept - An SST Compilation

Some very cool stuff here.

Bukowski 07-16-2007 11:47 AM

The Doors - s/t
13th Floor Elevators - Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevaors
Mission of Burma - The Obliterati
Pharoah Overlord - #1
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

Pharoah Overlord is really good, Anxious. This type of stuff is my favourite headphones music.

I've decided that while I like Psychocandy, and it was an important album in my musical progression, it's the kind of album that I now only enjoy once in a while. I feel like they had a good idea with this album, but they didn't progress enough with it. Too many songs sound similar, and have the same basic structure. It's a great album, but I can't help feel it could have been so much better. That said, they were bringing something new at the time, and I'd love to see them live.

Thats a killer line up right there.

I get what you're saying about Psychocandy, the album itself is good but it led way to artists who took the idea further, what The Mary Chain failed to do.

June Of 44 - Engine Takes To The Water
Idaho - Hearts Of Palm (thanks for this, sexymuffin)

Interstate 07-16-2007 01:46 PM

Jamie T - Panic Prevention - diggin' this after a friend put it on my car during a roadtrip
The Horrors - Strange House

geheim 07-16-2007 03:06 PM

favourite sons - down beside your beauty
bon savants - post rock defends the nation
hymie's basement - s/t
adem - love and other planets

Happymeal 07-16-2007 03:09 PM

Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place

For some reason I thought this was inaccessible. There's some really good material on this, but some parts sound too candy-coated and they kind of ruin the whole feel of the album.

margin0walker 07-16-2007 03:28 PM

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

AlienEater 07-16-2007 04:46 PM

Killdozer - Burl

Reading Mark Prindle made me want to listen to it again

Oh yeah should I go see The Fall? I haven't heard anything by them past the 80s but it seems like a good idea to go

Interstate 07-16-2007 04:49 PM

The Rocket Summer - Hello Good Friend - I attempted to listen to this and couldn't stand more than 3 songs before the singer's grating whiny voice made my ears bleed.

Dizzee Rascal - Maths & English - This however is in my top 10 of 2007 so far.

Pixies - Surfer Rosa

I've been a huge fan of the Pixies since I was about fourteen.

And every time I hear "Where Is My Mind" it still has the power to hit me like a ton of bricks.

YDload 07-16-2007 07:29 PM

it's an OK song, certainly not one of the album's highlights.

margin0walker 07-16-2007 08:51 PM

surfer rosa is wayyyyy overrated

sexymuffin 07-16-2007 08:52 PM

i like doolittle the best tbh

Don't go--run! Go see Mark E Smith before he goes completely insane or his heart goes out from too much speed. The album they released a few months ago wasn't half bad either.

YDload 07-16-2007 09:28 PM
123
wrong. surfer rosa is superior.

don't think i'm saying that because of Albini fanboy love or whatever, cause i preferred this album long before i cared about who the producer was. i just think it has better songs.

although knowing about Albini has really helped me appreciate that sick drum sound :D

sexymuffin 07-16-2007 09:39 PM

tru albini is a pro but idk i guess i've just spent more time with doolittle

Thanks 07-16-2007 09:44 PM

I thought for sure that I saw Steve Albini at a Pitchfork festival after party on Saturday night, but when someone else approached him to introduce himself, he replied with "I'm Joe." So now I'm unsure.

ATM 07-16-2007 09:46 PM

Artimus Pyledriver - s/t
Crotchduster - Big Fat Box of ****
The Beatnuts - Classic Nuts
The Books - Lost and Safe
Buzzoven - Sore

well if he introduced himself as joe it is definitely albini

br3ad_man 07-16-2007 10:17 PM

Surfer Rosa is far superior to Dolittle.

YDload 07-16-2007 10:20 PM

thank you br3ad

also tonite i downloaded Naked Raygun's "All Rise" album. apparently its their best one so i'm glad i got it!

YourBiggestFan 07-16-2007 10:25 PM

uhmmm what about Trompe de le monde?

Jay kay. Jay kay.

I'm listening to Surfer Rosa right now. I gave up trying to decide if it was better than doolittle long ago.

margin0walker 07-16-2007 10:43 PM

surfer rosa sucks hardcore

YDload 07-16-2007 10:46 PM

you're not a Pixies fan if you don't like Surfer Rosa at all.

Liebensaft 07-16-2007 10:55 PM

i never said i was a pixies fan

YDload 07-16-2007 11:00 PM

and now, you never can

Apocalyptic Raids 07-16-2007 11:35 PM

I prefer Surfer, though I've spent a lot more time with it than any other Pixies release.

Thanks 07-16-2007 11:51 PM

Surfer Rosa has better songs, and the good songs on Doolittle are done a disservice by its cold, dead mix.

If Albini was on Doolittle it would be a fairer race, but Surfer would still win.

I'm listening to The Lone Gunman by Idaho. I like them except when they try to do trip-hop.
