Illmatic 01-25-2005 03:25 PM

One of my friends said that at his kid brother's Middle School's talent show, one band tried to Skynyrd "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (in other words, they used three guitarists for it)...part of me wishes I had seen it while the other part is glad I didn't.

thickasabrick 01-25-2005 03:44 PM
I might be able to record it or something, but I've been working on the solo with my teacher for about 3 weeks now, and he wanted it to match the cd exactly, like to the point where you wouldn't be able to hear that there were 2 guitars (me and the cd) playing. So I'm pretty happy with that. :thumb:
Doing that is usually pretty tough. Whenever I play live, I just improvise a similiar solo to the one in the song, there's usually parts of melody you can match up, and certain notes and licks are easy to mimic so it doesn't sound much different, especially to non-guitar players...except when I play Purple Haze live. I find the only way it sounds right is how Hendrix plays it.

thickasabrick 01-25-2005 03:51 PM

Man I gotta go to work now, and I just remembered that a bunch of my students asked if I could teach them songs today...now I gotta quickly figure out and write down how to play them before I forget. I wish my students were still too crappy to learn real songs, it was much less work back then.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:08 PM
Haha ya, I took great satisfaction in reading through all of the comments. I don't even mind people's opinions, but he shouldn't say: "So take my advice. Rip the Dead stickers off of your SUV. Burn your tie-dye's and pick up a copy of "Never Mind the Bullocks' by the Sex Pistols (My second favorite rock album). Then crank it up! You will soon forget that Jerry is dead."

That's just wrong.

edit- I think Badmoon may have a stroke if he reads it. Badmoon's opinions are exactly the opposite to those in the article. Get the defribulators ready! (how the hell do you spell that word!)
Well, what is there to be said that hasn't already been posted in the comment box? Many of those fans made him look like a complete ignorant fool.

how old are you and how long have you been playing?

slowhand 01-25-2005 04:21 PM
A couple of 7th graders did it at my sister's talent show (she tapped to Purple haze) did sunshine of your love wth 2 guitars-- it had me laughing for weeks, the solo sounded like a cat in heat
I've been trying that with my band. Sunshine of Your Love with 2 guitars doesn't work. I use an Epiphone Dot Electric, the other guitarist an Epiphone Les Paul. Man... it sucks. I hate it.

RockAndRoll 01-25-2005 04:24 PM

My band played sunshine of your love at our set at a bar recently. We played it far too fast though which was too bad because otherwise it was quite good.

Anyways we have a recording from that show from which i'll try to send you some originals. (even though i'm sure to some of you that sounds like an empty promise because i've promised it before).

slowhand 01-25-2005 04:32 PM

Try it.

So your band are a trio or what?

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:33 PM
Says the guy who likes The Grateful Dead.

By the way, Badmoon is like 13 or 14, which makes me feel old.
That's very funny being that the Grateful Dead not only played several genres, but they also were one of the earliest Psychedelic bands, and brought Rock improvisation to new levels.

Listen to "That's it for the Other One" or "Weather Report Suite" and then tell me they're bland.

I don't find all of The Stooges work to be bland, but a large percentage bores me. Their debut is highly overrated and very boring to me. I'll leave it at that.

And I'm 15.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:34 PM

Okay, I need everyone's help.

What should I buy

The Byrds - Younger than Yesterday

or

Buffalo Springfield - Again

Johnny B. Good 01-25-2005 04:36 PM

"Go, Go Johnny GO GO, Johnny B. Goode" - guitar solo now

Man, Chuck Berry rocks my socks

Who's music do you have more of?
pick the one that you have the least amount of music of.
If you have equal amounts than choose Buffalo Springfield cause Stephen Stills and Neil Young(when he was with them) rock

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:39 PM

That's not important. I just really want some more Country Rock, and I'm already sure I'm going to buy something by Arlo Guthrie :).

Both.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:45 PM

No! Then I can't buy anything by Arlo!

slowhand 01-25-2005 04:47 PM

... Then buy both and... anything by Arlo.

Badmoon 01-25-2005 04:48 PM

touche

slowhand 01-25-2005 04:50 PM

You'll end up winning at the end. Great music is the best thing you can have. It's the only thing that won't be mad at you when you ruin everyone's Friday night.

Music is awesome.
I'm just wondering, comparing the Beatles first half of the sixties, to the last half, was there a change in who did more songwriting? Or was it just mostly the Lennon/Mcartney combo straight through the decade?
in their early years, mccatney/lennon wrote more of their songs together. in later years, when tensions started growing, the writing became more seperate. lennon wrote this song. mccartney wrote this one. a day in the life is really the last song they actually both contributed to writing. they kep putting mccartney/lennon in the credits though.

BludgeonySteve 01-25-2005 05:38 PM

Yeah. It's almost as if they were trying to out-do eachother at times.

Woodstock 01-25-2005 06:05 PM

The Kinks=The Beatles to me.

I don't have a band, I wish I did though. None of my friends have enough taste to play anything but Zeppelin and AC/DC.

Jam2Me 01-25-2005 06:06 PM

Badmoon I'd buy the Byrds but that's jsut me :X

And I got Neil Young's greatest hits...I'm still not crazy about him like you guys but I like him more if that helps :D

Yea I said the Kinks=The Beatles earlier in the thread, it's our official agreement.

I am also band-less, but I don't really have a good reason.

jpj 01-25-2005 06:10 PM

Have you heard Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere? It'll make you like him more, at least it did for me.

Well, it's a small step forward :)

Woodstock 01-25-2005 06:13 PM

Badmoon, you should get Again. Some of their best songs are on it, and I like the album art.

lunch998 01-25-2005 06:16 PM
touche
Is One From the Vault any good? Or should I just get the studio albums.

lunch998 01-25-2005 06:19 PM

Another great Classic Rock Simpsons Joke:
The Simpsons are in Africa dancing with an African tribe in some type of frenzy, and Marge says, "this song has been going on for hours."
Home replies, "Yea, it's kinda like the Allman Brothers."

I've stated that before. Plaigerizer.

If by Plaigerizing you mean that I just saw the episode.
