I don't now if it's true that's just what I heard.

he got 8 hours of sleep though...at school
lol yeah mostly

metalmilitia101 10-03-2005 02:46 PM
feeding tube

obviously he had no life if he did that all day. if he actually did that, thaty many hours a day he would be like a superguitarist i admit hes good but he should be like ****ing incrediblel if he actually practiced that much.
yeah. although some people practice like a bi tch and dont get anywhere, and some people practice like 3x a week and they are awesome...i don't get it.

by the way are there any other songs than turn the page where james solos? sorry if this is a stupid question...i should know this.

Jev 10-03-2005 02:47 PM

I wish I could have the willpower to do 16hours a day.

Britton 10-03-2005 03:43 PM

I'm not sure how many james actually plays but he wrote like 10 solo's
off oad and reload.

The deal is knowing what to practice then knowing how to correct it
you can practice all you want but if you only practice badly it just
makes you better at being bad....not sure if that makes sense.

He plays the last solo of the outlaw torn.

Huber 10-03-2005 03:56 PM
Yea I saw this vid of zakk doing the best stage rutine I've ever seen
it was in 89 (my birth year) and it was crazy.

he played 16 hours a day....
Alexi Laiho, I believe, dropped of out school so he could play guitar for 16 hours a day or something like that. Look at him now...

Joe 10-03-2005 04:28 PM
that's crazy man!

I play guitar>bass>drums

My buddy has been playing piano 5hours a day sense he was 3

why couldn't my perents do that for me?

good to see the thread is moving right along
No, because now I'm lost

and yes, guitar>bass>drums.
Alexi Laiho, I believe, dropped of out school so he could play guitar for 16 hours a day or something like that. Look at him now...
That's insane. I only play about 3...

Huber 10-03-2005 04:33 PM

Well just because I play it. One doesn't sound good without the other

No kidding, but i think i can play around 14 hours, but 8 of those hours would be pure tapping.

I have a lot of stamina, the bad thing is that i can't play something real complicated.

Huber 10-03-2005 04:36 PM

Well, more like one sounds better with the other.

Joe 10-03-2005 04:36 PM

I'm at school about 7 and asleep the other 8, so that only leaves 9. I play for probably most of it, but only about 2-3 hours is practicing.
Well, more like one sounds better with the other.
That's what I mean, one compliments the other and makes them sound better

Britton 10-03-2005 04:39 PM

I play maybe 4 and I'm pretty good I can only imagine 16

lightningmetal666 10-03-2005 04:40 PM
Pardon?
Oh, remember munky, the avatar that you had 'bout the time I joined here. (Like late Feb.- early March) I think it was you that had this weird looking mouse as an avatar.
I play maybe 4 and I'm pretty good I can only imagine 16
When I started playing I was on Independent study so I only had to go to school once a week. I would play around 16 hours a day sometimes more.

It didn't really help much but I did learn some cool stuff (like the simpsons theme and MOP)

edit: sorry about the DP

Britton 10-03-2005 04:50 PM

NP

so you played 16 hours a day? or you could?

witch one is it?

Huber 10-03-2005 04:51 PM

I need to set aside my days off for just practicing. I don't get hardly enough practice on guitar, and could use some more drums.

Chu 10-03-2005 04:51 PM
but only about 2-3 hours is practicing.
Maybe I should be practicing? Well, what do you mean by practicing?
I spend maybe 2 hours working on a riff, 2 hours on some scales or something, improving my down pick (Well Slapping Penguin thinks I should just down pick everything, but I have a tendancy (And ability! :p), to alt pick anything and everything so...

lightningmetal666 10-03-2005 04:52 PM

I did play 16 hours a day. I took full advantage of the free time that I had and I outplayed most ppl that had been playing just as long as me. (then I hit a kind of a rut and didn't get better for almost a year.)

Well chu, try downpicking stuff for a while then up-picking for a while. I tried doing the up picking and it just feels very weird, but is very good for your chops.

Huber 10-03-2005 04:56 PM

Is there any advantage to downpicking everything?

Chu 10-03-2005 04:58 PM

I'm not sure, I've never really downpicked (Sometimes I downpick power chords, but it's mostly a sort of alt strum), all I've ever known is alt picking, I don't even know if my technique is any good

lightningmetal666 10-03-2005 04:59 PM

You get a more bassy kind of tone. The difference is very subtle at best though. You can kinda notice it when you're palm muting on a scooped tone.

metalmilitia101 10-03-2005 05:42 PM
I need to set aside my days off for just practicing. I don't get hardly enough practice on guitar, and could use some more drums.
heh i play like 5 hours a day on the drums until blood is flowing from my calloused hands and i cant hear anything. i lovvve it. my mom hates it.

Trivium 10-03-2005 06:36 PM
Is there any advantage to downpicking everything?
not at all, bad habit

metalmilitia101 10-03-2005 08:40 PM

yeah...downpicking everything like literally everything is impossible when you're a good guitarist. well its not impossible but it makes you sound worse.

Joe 10-03-2005 08:47 PM
Maybe I should be practicing? Well, what do you mean by practicing?

I try learning a new song or a work on an old one. I'm also taking guitar lessons so I practice that too. I'm still working on Fade to Black so I've been doing that one little riff in the intro all day and i can finally do it perfectly. Improving your down pick is good and all, but alt pick i think sounds better. PM is something you should work on since you said you're not very good. Play alt picking (like MOP sounds better alt than down).

blue3 10-03-2005 09:25 PM

I can't play MOP if I down pick.

Britton 10-03-2005 09:29 PM

I practice scales and theory for about 2 hours a day then
I play abother 2 then with my band alot on some days.
right now I'm working on PH's and stuff metal techniqes mostly

hetfieldfan86 10-03-2005 09:46 PM

Hey, got any advice for learning how to sweep pick? Or play fast runs like Yngwie Malmsteen? I havfe been one guy that learned to play lead downpicking almost everything..except shredd up high..liek wylde style soloing. Any advice?

Britton 10-03-2005 10:14 PM

Just practice practice man

got my amp back today

Audiopond 10-03-2005 10:17 PM

just

Chu 10-04-2005 01:50 AM

So Slapping Penguin came around again, we jammed, we even recorded this time :p
The quality is so bad, we used one of those iPod recorders, in a jumper in front of the drum kit (The 2 guitar amps were behind the kit), it is just horrible :(

It's cool though, since we don't have a singer (Or a bassist :(), Slapping Penguin just makes up random solos during the verse/s :)

Very good, and he left with a few gigs of music that I know he's going to enjoy :D

Huber 10-04-2005 08:00 AM

I have one of those iPod recorders too. I tried recording drums with it one time. I don't even want to talk about how bad the quality was.

yeah right. Downpicking as much as you can builds up strength and helps with tremelo picking.

Doctor Night 10-04-2005 10:24 AM
