Last year, I was looking for PATGOD, and after a couple of months of searching I had found it (Well...). However, when I had opened the case, Obscured By Clouds was inside. :(
****, that is a street diss. I might get started on a rant regarding CD stores and RETURN POLICIES
nah, i disagree with the order. put the wall below wish u were here.
It could, I just put that one first because Its a good gate to their jam days, and the Wall has almost no jamming on it, like Dark Side of the Moon (in comparrison to their other albums). But both should be owned.

pigonthewing82 03-22-2005 09:43 PM
the wall shows just how irritating waters can get when he is left to his own devices and allowed to put the album on a far more grandiose scale then it should be. the greatest moment of the wall didn't even belong to waters. it was gilmour's solo on comfortably numb.
What about people like me who identify with they lyrics? The lyrics on the Wall speak to me more then most other albums out there.

I returned it, and then they sent me a copy of PATGOD, but if I had included that, it would have ruined the story.

:p

slowhand 03-22-2005 09:48 PM

Man, PATGOD was my third Floyd album, and I liked it. It was a really big leap, though, since it's really not the sound that the Floyd will be later remembered by, but it's entertaining to compare where they came from to what they became.

I sometimes wonder what would've happened if Syd had stayed... Would Waters had evolved into the songwritter he was, or would he had left the songwritting to Syd?

I'm moving to Chicago, land of the good Cd store owners, and wind.

I bought a Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 disc CD which only had one disc in it so I wanted to return it since only 50% of it was there, but the Cd guy was a relative of satan and wouldn't let me return it :upset: I have various other stories, but that one still gets me ticked.

i like the lyrics on wish you were here better. i don't think the wall is a bad album, just overrated.

syd couldn't stay. he was going into catatonic states on stage! he couldn't mentally hack the pressure. we can only speculate on what would have happened, but i think the band would have been much more upbeat (a la piper at the gates of dawn), not necessarily a bad thing

I think Waters would have began to write too. I have a feeling the outcome of the band would be the same where Roger takes control and the other members hate him for it (as they should).

It is overrated  I never said it wasn't. I don't know I mean the lyrics I think speak to a certain type of person, sombody like me. I find myself listening to the album and being glad I'm not the only person who feels that way. The lyrics just put all my fustrations with what happens in the world into words that make it not seem so hard.

Yea I'm finding I'm becoming a bigger fan of Lennons lyrics, but I've been a Floyd fan for longer. I like the more upbeat stuff to. To be honest I don't know why The Wall speaks to me so much. I think mabye its the fact its the first album that I felt like I was being directly spoken to by sombody who had known be my whole life so it holds a special place in my heart. Though hearing John saying "don't you know its going to be alright" its uplifting and I like it. I am starting to take a turn more towards his lyrics then Waters because of this.

it's not just john though. paul has some excellent ones. and george's lyrics never cease to amaze me. george is prob my favorite beatle.

bob dylan's lyrics also speak to me. i used positively 4th street to break up with one of my old gfs.

Yeah downloading a couple songs like those just to get into them is probally better then buying the albums first, just to get a feel for the band, I just forget about being able to download songs because I can't. Nice recommondation Bonzo :thumb:

George's the best. His lyrics are the most spontaneous and innocent of the Beatles'.

kux0 03-22-2005 10:19 PM

i like gilmours lyrics. They just kinda click with me, like when i first heard dsotm i totaly understood what he was talking about..even though i was only 12. :)

I think Waters wrote it and Gilmour sang it. At least thats the way it is for Dark Side of the Moon. But I know what you mean about them clicking with you.

kux0 03-22-2005 10:27 PM

i dont know, i think on the dsotm great albums dvd it said it was gilmours first turn taking a lead role in writing the cd's lyrics, but it might have said waters and i just missed it.

pigonthewing82 03-22-2005 10:33 PM

I think your confusing Gilmour and Waters. It happens a lot.

My little sister actually wrote a report on Bob Dylan. She came home from school one day and asked me for a song that is important to the world. I just sent her to bobdylan.com and told her to choose one. She chose Masters of War, and wrote like a two page report on Bob Dylan and his songwriting.

Good choice Masters of War is my favorite Bob Dylan song/anti war song.

Seafroggys 03-22-2005 11:20 PM

I did a report on Blue OYster Cult. Good report, but I don't like them as much as I did back then
I did a report on Blue OYster Cult. Good report, but I don't like them as much as I did back then
Yeah I went though my Blue Oyster Cult phase. I still listen to their early days once and a while, but rarly their later days.

kux0 03-23-2005 12:01 AM

Blue oyster cult definetly writes great songs.

BTW i was just thinking if any of you guys have ever heard people refer to led zeppelin as him, like they are one singular person?

slowhand 03-23-2005 12:04 AM

I'm ashame to say it but... my girlfriend did... that sucked.

kux0 03-23-2005 12:13 AM

my girlfriend has done it on many occasions...and now all her friends do it. conspiracy i tell you.

B0nz0 03-23-2005 01:57 AM

on the topic of bob dylan's lyrics though, have any of u broken up w/ ur gf with positively 4th street? i have.

/wins page

oddly enough we're still on speaking terms... i was hoping at the time that she would never speak to me again...

no i've never heard led zeppelin referred to as him. however lynyrd skynyrd happens all the time. same with steely dan.

speaking of steely dan, what are your thoughts?

RockAndRoll 03-23-2005 06:46 AM

They get a thumbs up from me. I don't like all of their stuff but some of their stuff is really good and their fantastic musicians. Jethro tull is often thought of as "him"
