It had a rather tricky levelling up system which was fun to exploit, but annoyed the **** out of a lot of people I guess.

I wasted so much time as a youth using the "Card" ability on the fish on the beach at the beginning of the game, because this would get me AP and get my GF's all beefed up without levelling up the characters. Also, playing the card game in the first Garden with everyone you could get every card about to about level 5 or 6? I cannot remember. Many of these cards could be converted into items and magic using GF's abilities and get you the best weapons, and really high stats early on. Having the characters at such a low level made the game a breeze as enemies level up with you and don't get very strong at all.
