FYI:

Thrash was influenced by punk :) .
That would explain why thrash is my least favorite genre of metal.

Shattered_Future 08-05-2005 06:38 PM

There's nothing wrong with punk...

Converge_Cult 08-05-2005 06:53 PM

Alot of thrash bands where influenced by Minor Threat and Black Flag..alot of those bands in that era..punk is really good..does anyone know when Children of Bodom will be coming to Canada...like western canada..or if they have even been here

Shadows 08-05-2005 06:54 PM

They will probably hit Canada in November as part of the North American section of their world tour.

Hells Bells 08-05-2005 06:56 PM

I heard that he decribed the style of music CoB played as punk rock from hell.
But that doesn't make any sense either. He has his punk side project Kylahullut to get all the punk out of his sytem, so he shouldn't have to bring it into CoB.
Ha, yeah you'd think so. Maybe he's just experimementing with some of the stuff on this album by trying to mix punk with some of CoB's old style...although there isn't much of that in the song.

Shadows 08-05-2005 06:57 PM

I've heard Alexi refer to as CoB as black metal (it was way back in the day). I still don't think they have any punk in them.

flamesofbodom 08-05-2005 06:58 PM

I like some punk but....

This song is kickass  I love it!

IheartSP 08-05-2005 07:33 PM

You can see hardcore punk influences on most of HCDR and on IYF (thus why I call it metalcore, hardcore punk + metal). Also the opening riff on The Nail is pretty punk. The lyrics on HCDR and judging from the songtitles of Are You Dead Yet? Are extremely punk influenced.

Hells Bells 08-05-2005 07:35 PM

I really don't listen to a lot of punk anymore, but I still don't mind it. Does anyone have anything by Kylahullut?

You're right IheartSP...I didn't even notice that about the nail. The intro does sound very punk.

IheartSP 08-05-2005 07:37 PM

I haven't heard Kylahullut and I'm not interested in a Finnish version of the Dropkick Murphies anyway, at least that's how I see it, drunken punk.

Hells Bells 08-05-2005 07:46 PM

Drunken punk? That's what you've heard it sounds like? I'm still interested in hearing it then :p That side project seems like something where Alexi can just goof off, CoB usually does serious music and he probably doesn't get a chance to vent.

IheartSP 08-05-2005 07:49 PM

Kylahullut means something abut drinking.

EverytimeIBodom 08-05-2005 08:40 PM

I haven't heard anything from Kylahullut, who has and what do you think of em?

dest. Chaos 08-06-2005 10:25 AM

btw... Britney Spears just covered that song too. the original is done by some 80's guy. At least that's what I have heard from some of my goth friends which are very reliable. btw one of the guys who said that are at Gates of Metal right now ... Bodom starts in 5 minutes

Shadows 08-06-2005 10:29 AM

We talked about that when the cover was first mentioned. It was originally done by some legendary musician - I can't remember who exactly. Britney covered it and managed to make it sound like trashy pop for slutty teenage girls.

ok :thumb: and I thought it was pretty cool but I have never liked that song so I won't really like this neither. it's just a funny thing to me...

I don't actually like the sound of the song (like I'm sure most of us don't), but instead I liked it because it was a funny thing for Bodom to do.

I've always thought it would be weird to do a brutal death metal cover of Piano Man. Same idea, but CoB did it first.

dest. Chaos 08-06-2005 10:36 AM
There's nothing wrong with punk...
it's just very unmusical.....muaha powerchord owns!!! through the whole song ! yes! and only 8th notes in the solo that's fast enough...

Iai 08-06-2005 10:37 AM

The only guy quoted in the liners as a songwriter is Max Martin, who's been Britney's producer since she first appeared, so I doubt that. Either that or Max Martin did it originally, in which case, I never knew he had a career in front of the boards too.

Yes I have the album

Anyway, I came in hear to ask - did they cover She is Beautiful by Andrew WK too? My friend just sent me it, I'm just checking it's not a mislabelled mp3.

I must do a brutal black metal cover of Lemon Tree :amaze:

People like Britney Spears and other pop people don't say if it's a cover ... they are soo low...It's all about money and fame. muahaha sry for triple post but i don't know how to put more than one quote in a post  , if some one just tell me how to do it I can edit. yes they covered She is Beautiful

Apocalyptic Raids 08-06-2005 10:42 AM

Why do three separate posts? You could have done it all in one.

It's illegal not to quote the original songwriter. Whether they would have wanted to or not is irrelevant. There's no way they would have got away it if it was a cover.

Anyway, the Andrew WK cover. Anybody know?

I already said in my post above that they covered the andrew wk song. And pop people don't give a f*ck if it's illegal or not.(money and fame). IT IS A COVER. look what shadows fallen said above which I quoted and told you to read.....

Iai 08-06-2005 10:48 AM

Then source it. Tell me who did the original. Don't just throw shit like that around without backing it up.

I must say, you have a pretty twisted definition of the way the law works.

Yep, he's right. They covered she is Beautiful on the Trashed Lost & Strngout EP.

Iai 08-06-2005 10:56 AM

^Thanks man.
AGAIN: look what Shadows Fallen said above which I quoted and told you to read...
I've read it 5 times. I see no mention of who did it originally, other than a very vague 'some legendary musician'. AGAIN - prove it.

And I told you that bodom covered she is beautiful 1567 times b4 he said it lol.
and I know more examples of pop people using other people's material without quoting the original writer....

Shadows 08-06-2005 11:00 AM
Wow, I just discovered that Oops I Did It Again was a cover of a Louis Armstrong song. I am severely confused because that doesn't seem like something he'd sing, or Britney Spears cover. The lyrics are like gay 21st century pop, why would Louis Armstrong have written them in like the 60s?
http://www.supermasterpiece.com/music/oops.html

Alright Iai, this should clear it up. Britney covered Louis Armstrong, and here's a link to back it up.

yeah. we said it was mentioned in this thread b4 so you could have used the search function like I did Search this thread/britney spears cover/scroll down a bit and then you some posts about it.. now for being such a dick agianst me for that you should say sorry...Maybe because it's so old it's not illegal to not quote the original writer...

See, that's all you had to do. Thanks.
That's exactly what I did. :)
And it showed up? The mods said the search got corrupted after the database crash.

Shadows 08-06-2005 11:18 AM
maybe we actually have a brain unlike him....which we use b4 throwing **** at other people
Well, I can see hwew he was coming from. If the song had some other guy listed as the writer, than it would make perfect sense for him to think it was original. Actually, if some other guy was credited with writing it, then it may actually be illegal...so I think we all had our legitimate motives. :)
And it showed up? The mods said the search got corrupted after the database crash.
Yeah, it worked. It was discussed sometime after the crash so I think that may have something to do with it. I had to strip down the search querry for it to work, but it gave me exactly what I was looking for.

Iai 08-06-2005 11:58 AM

Yeah, the explanation that it's too old is pretty much spot on. Especially in the case of an artists with such a huge body of work as Louis Armstrong - the copyrighters probably wouldn't have brothered with the more obscure stuff, leaving in the public domain. That technically makes not listing Armstrong as legal, though immoral.

The fact that somebody quoted it as an 80s original is pretty off - Armstrong had been dead for 9 years by that point.
edit: he seems to be very quiet now...
I was on the phone to my girlfriend, if you must now.

Shadows 08-06-2005 12:22 PM

I suppose since the song is so old and Armstrong has been dead for a while, the copyright laws don't restrict against using it. It's still not cool for them to take the credit though.
I was on the phone to my girlfriend, if you must now.
I wish I had one of those.

Huber 08-06-2005 12:25 PM

I think Copyrights only last like 80 years or something.

yeah that's true. but that wasn't really the point. the point was that it's a cover. btw the one who said he thought it was some 80's song isn't at all as reliable as the other one (who's at gates of metal where bodom played half an our ago)
