RouteOne 02-21-2010 02:46 PM

My buddy's having a "dark" themed party in a few weeks, whats some good stuff to potentially dance to?

Meatplow 02-21-2010 02:50 PM

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - Sexplosion!

any popular 80's EBM group

RouteOne 02-21-2010 02:52 PM

Thanks man.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 03:15 PM

Thrill Kill Kult is poppier than Pink and Yellow.

And there's quite an irony in you recommending the same album to Ron when he asks for something "dark" as you did when he asked for something "upbeat" a week or two ago. :p

Meatplow 02-21-2010 03:27 PM

Well, dancing sort of implies it needs a bit of a groove.

I had it pitched to me as "industrial funk" which really doesn't quite capture it, it's upbeat as far as anything industrial related goes but still dark enough to fit in at a goth club I would say.

I was just throwing out names of releases I considered to have a certain "pop" quality in that previous list mainly.

RouteOne 02-21-2010 03:29 PM

Yeah its a typical "industrial party" I suppose, so its not unheard of to have rather upbeat music at one.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 03:31 PM

Some KMFDM couldn't hurt if that's the case, Naïve and Money would probably go down well enough.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 03:33 PM

well yeah I think EBM would be the best choice for something dark to dance to. get some cheesy, slightly gothic **** with lots of arpeggios.

I don't think industrial funk is too far off, really. If i remember correctly the funk element was very strong. The industrial part is iffy but hey i suppose samples of people talking about sex bears some relation to industrial.

I'll have to give it another listen before I completely write it off, the only time I listened to it I just sat through three or four songs before turning it off angrily in the same manner as Noise Unit.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 03:45 PM

Yeah, I just found that one Noise Unit album kind of dull. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult reminds me of that The Cramps/Misfits/Rob Zombie type of cheesy sex and violence horror aesthetic, just fruitier.

FatalEnergy 02-21-2010 04:14 PM

Anyone know of Wappenbund?

Been digging on them a lot lately.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 04:25 PM

Kinder Des Lichtes is really good. Haven't heard anything else, though.

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:13 PM

Hello R&M experimental fans. If Catfight On A Hotdog merch was available, would you guys buy it?

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:15 PM

nah but i've never been the band merchandise type

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:17 PM

/cuts.

I'm thinking of doing some stuff, and releasing it at cost. Don't want to make money, but want it out there other than in downloads. CDs pressed, maybe a shirt design or two and a few stickers. I'd love to get vinyl pressed but dunno if it's feasable.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 05:18 PM

for the novelty value, sure

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands.php?bandid=12805

all of these would look great on a shirt

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:19 PM

can i get a hoodie with the thing with the girl's face painted over in mspaint

Meatplow 02-21-2010 05:20 PM

A 43% Remixed coffee mug would be pretty tits

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:20 PM

Haha. I'll make up a pink hoodie with yellow sleeves, just for you.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:22 PM

lol, that would be so Awkward Pop.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 05:24 PM

one day Awkward Pop will have its own wikipedia page

why is A Split Second so good? gagging on 80's synths

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:29 PM

One day there will be post-Awkward Pop sub-genres that bear no resemblance to the original sound.

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:30 PM

I think you need a fashion label, and it's title should be -

Cox

the gift that keeps on giving

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:34 PM

Cox - for the man with everything comes the object that you can never have enough of.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 05:44 PM

for the discerning postmodern unshaven man

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:53 PM

When designer stubble isn't enough to define your manhood, wear Catfight On A Hotdog.
The way I'm going, I'm going to be doing split rap albums with Joquin Phoenix in no time.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:54 PM

Pink and Yellow

for people that are so dark and depraved that the only way they can express it is by writing the most innocent, inoffensive music ever

Aaron 02-21-2010 05:55 PM

Rapists Write Lift Music.
Sounds like the name of a really bad metalcore band.
