You really should attempt to get The Final Cut and Obscured By Clouds soon. Great albums.

Dragon_Prince 06-13-2006 05:37 AM

I think Atom HEart Mother is better than the others, just got to love summer '68 and Fat Old Sun

Riva 06-13-2006 05:41 AM

Hehe, I love the announcer in BBC archives: This is The Fat Old Sun, a new song from the album The Atom Heart Mother, by The Pink Floyd.

The guy was obsessed with the word "the"...

robo2448 06-13-2006 06:34 AM

The BBC Archives are great.

LF96 06-13-2006 10:10 AM

Are these BBC Archives on some sort of official CD or is it a bootleg?

Atom Heart Mother is better than Obscured By Clouds if you ask me, although only by a small shot. I'm getting quite interested in The Final Cut, I just might pick it up one of these days. I'm really digging the concept.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice that  He reminds me of the announcers in Monty Python sketches, I guess just because he's British and I'm a stupid American. I'm thinking of the one audio skit where all the movie stars are crashing into each other.

Hey Riva, I can't send you that bootleg right now, but I can send this great Pythn album I've got... it's rather a sampler of all things Python, it's got live bits, bits off movies, made-for-record bits, songs, etc. It's great.

I think I might already have that one.

Excellent song, though. My Floyd collection begins at Atom Heart mother. Although I have been considering the old pop stuff.

SOS isn't really poppy, not like PATGOD.

EDIT: Actually, thinking of it, More, most of Ummagumma, and SOS are pretty much progressive/psychadelic rock.

BigTrav415 06-13-2006 11:49 PM

I'd definitely consider SOS progadelic to say the least. Haven't heard Ummagumma yet, More is just a bunch of everything awesome thrown into a soundtrack. Speaking of which, More Blues is one of my favorite songs right now. Gilmour's lone electric weeping with the random drum groove...

By the way, does the piano riff in Remember A Day sound familiar to anyone else? It's driving me insane trying to figure out where I've heard it before :(

P.S. Green Is The Colour is even better on BBC Archives :)

SoS?

You gotta love the back cover of that Vinyl.

Riva 06-14-2006 06:11 PM

Saucerful Of Secrets. And yeah, I always think of something when I hear Remember A Day, don't know what tune, though.

Riva 06-18-2006 03:26 AM

So then, PULSE is finally getting released on DVD. Anyone put in a pre-order yet?

Danger Bird 06-18-2006 10:58 AM

SoS and Ummagumma are my favorite albums, I think.

Nope, didn't know.. Thanks for the info, I'll definatly buy that DVD when it comes out.

Broken Arrow 06-18-2006 11:43 AM

Wasn't it supposed to come out around Christmas? I remember everyone talking about it around then but I never heard and follow up to it.

Riva 06-18-2006 07:03 PM

It was supposed to be released about 50 times in the past, but each time it got bumped back. This is the first time that my local record store has advertised a pre-order though, so it may be the real thing!

Danger Bird 06-24-2006 04:57 PM

What the fuck guys?

I don't want to keep shocking this thread back to life.

Riva 06-24-2006 06:41 PM

Well, PULSE is drawing closer. I can't believe you guys didn't know about it being released on DVD, finally.

Also, I really love Live At Pompeii.

666Ozzfan 06-24-2006 11:30 PM

Well, I finally have a decent collection of Pink Floyd albums:
Piper at the Gates Of Dawn
Animals
Wish You Were Here
The Division Bell
The Final Cut
Momentary Lapse Of Reason
The Wall
Dark Side Of The Moon

Leper 06-24-2006 11:52 PM

That's quite the lyrical > spacey collection you have there. Piper and Darkside are the only really spacey floyd albums on that list. Well actually I'm not sure what MLOR or TDB are like.

Riva 06-25-2006 05:03 AM

Not spacey at all. A lot more progressive rock, really.

You've got a good collection, but you should look into the early '70s stuff as well.

morrison357 06-25-2006 10:59 AM

I've really been getting into their early 70's stuff. Like Meddle and Obscured by Clouds. I like Meddle the most, the songwriting on it is phenomenal. And Echoes is one of the best 20+ minute songs I've ever heard.
Check out Saucerful of Secrets for an awesome, spacey Floyd album.

Dragon_Prince 06-25-2006 11:49 AM

You need Meddle and Atom Heart Mother next :)

Danger Bird 06-25-2006 02:47 PM

And SoS

I'm pretty sure Nick Mason will be there for the second half as well. I'm seeing Roger on September 9th in Mansfield, MA.

I'm seeing him then too. One of my friends dad's said they met Roger Waters. He said he ate his peanuts with the shells still on them.

Maybe The Trial? Don't know if that was released on video though. It'd have to be around the mid '70s though, because before and after all their music videos were mainly liva action.
