Also, it was discussed earlier, but what's the point of the cd changing color?
Probably not a lot. Broken has gotten slightly better but not a lot really. Happiness in Slavery is great in some parts but rather weak in others. Gave up is actually not that bad.

Kage 04-18-2007 11:52 PM
Seriously?

Have you seen them live, or just from DVDs?
Just from the DVD.

Static 04-18-2007 11:56 PM

Exactly.

:).

Kage 04-19-2007 12:00 AM

Good point.

my god
can it go any faster
oh my god
don't think I can last here

Static 04-19-2007 12:03 AM

That's the worst of the opening 5, in my opinion.

Hmm. Or maybe tied with Survivalism.

Kage 04-19-2007 12:03 AM

Damn you. It's one of my top 3 favorites on the album.

Static 04-19-2007 12:04 AM

My Violent Heart > Vessel.

;)

Kage 04-19-2007 12:07 AM

Vessel
My Violent Heart
The Greater Good

Those are my three favorite at this point.

Static 04-19-2007 12:28 AM

TGG is probably my least favorite at the moment.

Kage 04-19-2007 12:29 AM

Jeez.

Static 04-19-2007 12:32 AM

Hahah.

We have completely opposite tastes.

What is your album ranking?

Kage 04-19-2007 12:34 AM

Gaah.

The Fragile
The Downward Spiral
Year Zero
With Teeth
Pretty Hate Machine
Broken

That's satisfactory for now I suppose.

Static 04-19-2007 12:37 AM

Ahaha.

Hard, I presume?

I don't understand that. We have the same top and basic bottom.

All right, highlight tracks from The Fragile?
It took me a long long while to love it. For the longest time I was always turned off by it but suddenly one day I just got sucked into.
That's exactly what I went through with Broken. I thought it was just okay at first, but one day I just got really into it. It's great. And "Gave Up" is awesome live, I think. It really is one of the more energetic songs they play live. That one and "Last" are probably my two favorite songs off that EP.

Anyway, my top three Year Zero songs as of now are:
The Great Destroyer
The Beginning of the End
My Violent Heart

I don't mind Survivalism but after hearing the entire album, it just isn't as great as some of the other songs on there. And still I think my least favorite track right now is Me, I'm Not.

Static 04-19-2007 12:43 AM

I love the riff near the end of Survivalism.

I don't see the deal with The Great Destroyer either.

Kage 04-19-2007 12:45 AM
Ahaha.

All right, highlight tracks from The Fragile?
That's way too hard. The Fragile is one total work. But I'll give it my best shot.

The Day the World Went Away
Somewhat Damaged
The Frail/The Wretched
Just Like You Imagined
Pilgrimage
The Great Below
Please
Complication
Ripe With Decay

That was way too many, wasn't it?

Static 04-19-2007 12:48 AM

What the hell.

Add Mark Has Been Made and The Fragile and take away Please and Ripe With Decay, we have the same list.

And no, it was fine.

Kage 04-19-2007 12:49 AM

Yes the Mark Has Been Made and the Fragile are also some of my favorites.

deadinholywood 04-19-2007 01:01 AM

Nine Inch Nails would have to be one of my favourite bands ever, however i strangely have no desire to buy/download Year Zero.... I think im broken :(

Static 04-19-2007 01:02 AM

bwnstl 04-19-2007 01:07 AM

In my opinion right now:

The Downward Spiral
Year Zero
Still/And All That Could Have Been
The Fragile
Broken
With Teeth
Pretty Hate Machine

Really though, I consider AATCHB, The Fragile, and Broken right at the same level.

From Year Zero:
The Good Soldier - This track rocks because of the restraint it shows. You keep waiting for an explosion of noise and it never comes and, in this case at least, that's a good thing.
Capital G - The staggered vocal delivery of the verses contrast amazingly with the melodic sun chorus.
My Violent Heart - The explosion of sound that you didn't get in The Good Soldier is in this track in spades.
The Warning - I love the feel of this song as The Presence is introduced, and--my god--that bass line is so damn catchy.
The Great Destroyer - Trent hits the highest notes I believe he's ever made, and that explosion in the last half--like a computer suddenly went psycho. I had someone pop his head into my room and ask "What DJ is this?" during this part.
In This Twilight - Trent doing vocal acrobatics again, with a great glitchy electronic backing.
And as far as creepy instrumentals go, I think The Greater Good and Another Version of the Truth are great.

Static 04-19-2007 01:09 AM

Zero Sum is so brilliant.

The chorus chant is so hauntingly depressing.

They are frivolous. And I don't see why it's so hard for you to accept that I am unimpressed.

Royd Rage 04-19-2007 12:16 PM

so level with me...do you all think year zero was that good? i haven't really read the thread but everywhere i go it is getting praise.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-19-2007 12:24 PM

I like it more than any other NIN album I've heard.

Kage 04-19-2007 12:28 PM

"frivolous" rofl. gg man.

Polyamarous 04-19-2007 12:30 PM

I don't inderstand the humour in frivolous!

Kage 04-19-2007 12:33 PM

The only people who are unimpressed are the kind who like to deprive themselves of joining in on fun just to prove how hard they are to impress.
so level with me...do you all think year zero was that good? i haven't really read the thread but everywhere i go it is getting praise.
Yes, it really is that good. I'm loving this album even more with each listen. And if you really read into the whole concept and stuff, it gets even better..or at least it did for me. For me, it's still not up to par with TDS and has a long way to go to even get close to it..but that's just me. I've always and probably will forever love TDS. :p

Edit: Also, to go along with this whole concept, NIN played a secret show last night in L.A.
A bunch of people got called and were asked to meet at some location. They had a short meeting and were then rushed to this dark room where the band came out and played for a while before the place was raided by some SWAT team. I think it's awesome that NIN is taking all this to another level..something different. Anyway, here's the page where you can watch the video of last night's meeting/show.

Lucky bastards!

samthebassman 04-19-2007 11:28 PM

The Fragile is still NIN best release.
