I kind of liked Bloodline the best out of the whole album but Araya's vocals on that was so badass
|
That has to be the best song lyrically on GHUA besides Disciple
hey check out these lyrics I wrote. I was listening to FTB while writing them and they have an almost doom metal feel to them. http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11303119#post11303119
I'll check it out. By FTB do you mean Fade to Black? I suck at critiquing.
I kind of liked Bloodline the best out of the whole album but Araya's vocals on that was so badass
Yes, Bloodline was one of the highlights of that album. Though my favorite song on GHUA is Disciple. I wonder if Kerry read the Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God speech when he wrote that song? |

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was just asking if anything stood out to you. I've gotta write a song for my songwriting class at the college, and I was wondering what other ppl thought of it before I submit it.
Yes, Bloodline was one of the highlights of that album.
Bloodline has some great lyrics to it, but the music video for it is what I liked the most. Very good surprise at the ending. |
Can someone help me find the site of that guy who covers Slayer songs. It's somewhere in this thread.. but I'm to lazy to search through this, Google is sucking balls.
EDIT- I did some searching.. it paid off. |
I'm getting heavily into Show No Mercy. Its gives me such vivid images of death and evil through both the music and the lyrics. This band is awesome. I've had War At The Warfield for ages and revisted that the other day, its pretty good. Damn dvd skipped on War Ensemble, thats my favourite song by them i think, Seasons in the Abyss rates pretty highly too. I got really stoned and listened to it ages ago and saw tanks in my head and bombs being dropped. Man that was insane.
|
Yeah Show No Mercy kills. The Antichrist is my favorite song on that album.
|
War ensemble is a great song, Butcher, ever get still reigning?

Yeah, for X-Mas I got a gift card for Best Buy. I made haste and got that DVD. I was slightly disappointed, the only flaw with that DVD is it's shortness. GAAAAAAAAAAAA I really want to see Slayer again. It's been over a year since I've seen them. And I need to see them again. Though, I'm not enthusiastic about their new album as I was before. I'm pretty sure it's going to sound like drop B Slipknot inspired riffs/lyrics with Slayer solos. |
I know, that was bullshit, it had some awesome songs but it was damn short. The end was awesome when the blood just started pooring down. I wonder how hard it was for 'em to play with the instruments soaked in blood. Hmm... wonder what kind of blood it was, most likely chicken.

More like the blood of innocent virgins and poseurs! |
don't forget holy beings
|
They had to get tons and tons of blood to be able to pull something off like that. Man that's a lot of people to kill.

 It was probably just theatrical blood. Or possibly kool-aid? I really have no idea what it is. I just like thinking that it is blood from poseurs, virgins, and holy beings. |
hahah, Kool-aid. That would be a bitch to get off the guitars and drums.
|
The old tomato sauce trick.

I know someone that met Kerry King at some guitar expo thing and called his friend just so King could call the friend a cocksucker over the phone.

 That's awesome. I'd actually feel pretty cool if someone from Slayer insulted me. I wanted to see him on his guitar abuse thing up in Orange County.. but I never got to make it. NP: Slayer - Die By The Sword |
Anything i've heard by slayer rocks like a mother****er, but i havent heard that much. any of you got any album recomendations that'd be a good place to start??
|
Seasons In The Abyss and South Of Heaven are best to start on, then go back from there.

It's second on my list. It's most definately the best Slayer album to get first, as it brings you into their style without being too out there. However, Show No Mercy is still the best. |
What are some good Slayer songs to learn on guitar that aren't too difficult?
Metalstorm/Face The Slayer is pretty simple i have noticed. |
The Antichrist is very simple and easy to play. It is also a very kickass song. It's one of my favorites.

After taht you might want to check into some older albums, reign on blood is a must if you're a Slayer fan, one of the best albums no don't, also has one of the most popular thrash songs on it, Angel of Death. The best album IMO is probably... Hell awaits, the recording blows ass but It kind of adds to the ambience of the cd.

Rain in Blood and Angel Of death were the first slayer songs i ever heard. checked out angel of death because i heard story about the lyrics and all the controversary the song called. two ****in sweet thrash songs!!! |
For some reason the only song I like off of Reign in Blood is Raining Blood. I can't really listen to the other songs. I'm more of a South of Heaven person.
Jeff Hanneman 4 life. |

I was watching Uranium back in like may or june of last year and they had a thing on the bloodiest goriest stage shows ever. Naturally slayer and gwar were there. Juliyan (sp?) was talking to the stage crew about how they do the whole blood thing and they said that for certain parts it was stage blood and water and others it was kool-aid and water. I think that they said towards the end (have not seen still reigning like a dumb@$$) they used just straight stage blood. |

Jeff Hanneman 4 life.
SoH is too slow mate. You say it's your favourite album then go on to say your favourite guitarist is the one in Slayer who plays fastest and with least melody. |

Jeff Hanneman 4 life.
That was my first Slayer CD. And even though now, it kind of bores me because of it's slower pace, I owe that album for getting me into Slayer. I was actually listening it today on the way to school, it's not as bad as I used to think of it. Jeff > Kerry for sure.
']SoH is too slow mate. You say it's your favourite album then go on to say your favourite guitarist is the one in Slayer who plays fastest and with least melody.
Hmmm... I totally disagree. I think that Jeff has more feeling and melody in most of his solos as opposed to Kerry. Listen to the second solo in The Antichrist and Necrophiliac. Also Jeff wrote all the music for South of Heaven which is probably one of the slowest songs on that album. Additionally, he has said in an interview (if I find it I'll post it) that he writes solos with more melody, compared to Kerry who just goes out with crazy stuff. http://www.slayersaves.com/interviews_jeff1.htm
Jeff: I think (Dave) Lombardo summed it up years ago, He said "Kerry writes fast stuff & Jeff writes fast stuff & moody stuff", so I guess I write a bit more moodier than Kerry does.
But it's all opinion. I personally think that Jeff is the more melody. |
