AB/CD 07-20-2005 08:03 PM

ere dont insult any1 here right i thought there was only 1 donnington im sure most people here did.

nick203k 07-20-2005 09:26 PM

ok i need help i can play thunderstruck using the pick but when i try to play it with one hand it sounds weird can anyone help me

Follow The Reaper 07-20-2005 09:28 PM

Try doing hammer-ons and pull-offs on each note, those substitute the open strings.

And to Guitaraddict, I apologize for my rudeness.

nick203k 07-20-2005 09:40 PM

i read how to do hammer-ons and pull offs but it is sopposed to be used when ur picking can u tell me how to do it

Follow The Reaper 07-20-2005 09:47 PM

It's kinda hard to explain, but here it goes.

The first note is on the 4th fret on the B string. With your first finger hit the fret like if you were going to pick it, but don't use your pick. Then realease that finger from the string, creating a tone that he uses. Then do the same with your fourth finger the same way, only on the 7th fret on the B string. Reapeat that as many times as necessary, then do it on the 5th and 8th frets on the same string. And reapeat that technique throughout the intro and the main riff (I think that it is doubled throughout most of the song). But after those riffs when you get to the chords, just use your pick for that.

Hope that helps, if you still have questions AIM me at FollowRpr instead of clogging the forums with questions. :thumb:

nick203k 07-20-2005 09:57 PM

yea im sry for the question but i dont have aim but i do have msn messenger nick203k@hotmail.com

i just got throught tryin to do exactly what u said but it does not sound right i am using one hand only (top) and hitting the 4th string with my first finger and 7th with my forth finger just like if im using a pick.

Follow The Reaper 07-20-2005 10:00 PM

Well, umm. Kinda hit your finger onto the strings, not hard, but not light, harder enough so that it makes a sound, and lightly enough so that you don't hurt your finger. You should get AIM, its free, here's a link. www.aim.com you can download it their.

Those are great descriptions but Angus picks. He does not do it with one hand, and it is with more than one string.

Bon_Scottie 07-21-2005 04:55 AM

Playing it with one hand is piss easy.

How come when Angus is preforming it live, he holds one hand in the air and salutes the crowd then? Surely this means he can't pick the strings...

rippa32 07-21-2005 05:08 AM

Notice how he does not do that during thunderstruck but in the Dirty Deeds solo.

Follow The Reaper 07-21-2005 03:24 PM

Bon Scottie, I don't think he had started playing the song yet, but I'll watch Donnington and clarify that.

woundedmonkey 07-21-2005 04:03 PM
Very simple, but still pretty good. They used to be my favorite band, but then they got repetetive. I can still listen to them, but not for too long. But they have good, catchy songs. I wish they had better bass parts, though.
I agree

Cheers.

I've swear I've seen him do it live before...

I think he is just waving we he does that, but not yet playing. The only time I've seen him play like that is when he does it in the video, but he has proably done it live before.

Bon_Scottie 07-22-2005 08:23 AM

He must have done it at some point, for this 'rumour' to start.

AB/CD 07-22-2005 04:42 PM

like in the thunderstruck video where he could maybe i dunno mime

Follow The Reaper 07-22-2005 05:51 PM

AB/CD, what wrong with your avator?

rippa32 07-22-2005 06:27 PM

Just hasn't been changed since the new server, everyones avatars did it. As for the video clip, I think he was miming, if you play it properly not just one string I think you have to use two hands.

thunderstricken1029 07-22-2005 11:00 PM

i agree, i think you do have to use two hands

Apocalyptic Raids 07-22-2005 11:12 PM

I pick it. For me it sounds shit when I don't pick it.

drummingismylife 07-22-2005 11:34 PM

Some of the other places other than the Donnington DVD that you may have seen Angus play Thunderstruck are on the Family Jewels DVD or at the Toronto SARS concert or whatever.

AB/CD 07-23-2005 02:08 PM

i cant be bothered fixing my avatar mate pointed it out ot me other week anyway.

got call of duty today (game brian is in) its class just cant wait till i get to brians section

rippa32 07-23-2005 08:14 PM

Its played on 2 strings? You sure? If you can, Id like to see a tab of that.

thunderstricken1029 07-24-2005 07:29 PM

hey does anybody know any news of their new cd?

He means it's played like that if you're only using one hand, but when he picks it (which he usually does) he only uses one string, and people have you thinking that he does hammers and pull offs, but he doesn't.

I cant find one anywhere but if you look real close on the DVD you can see he's playing the B string as well it gives a much fuller sound than just one string.

Bon_Scottie 07-25-2005 09:03 AM

Just ordered the new DVD and book, anyone looking forward to it?
