yeah i just got my classes finalized. I have Speech, History and Religion of Israel, Introductory Microeconomics, and a first year seminar class called Faith and Reason.
Its pretty sick though because i have no Tuesday or Friday classes |
I haven't had a class on Friday since high school.
|
Religion of Israel
haha why |
he goes to Pepperdine, its a private school for Christians
:amaze: |
You basically study the old testament, and then modern zionism
idk, its a christian school...but then again you'd think they'd make me take a new testament class. Its required, and the old testament is easy to learn so i wont have any problems. Edit: Pepperdine is a private college, but its not just for christians. They dont really care what your background is. But its really ****ing hard to get into. |
I think I have 1 on Friday and none on Tuesday, which is seriously sweet.
My fingers and throat hurt like a bitch, but my heavy metal cover of Bleeding Love is complete. What a great way to waste away an afternoon. |

edit: Lot
That's backwards lol his daughters seduced, liquored up and raped him technically. |
Wait no, Lot's daughters got him drunk and raped him. I had it backwards.
That's backwards lol his daughters seduced, liquored up and raped him technically.
Yeah, my bad. I was getting it mixed up with when Lot offered his daughters up to a bunch of angry rapists. Isn't the Bible fun!? |
fox is all like oshi, i be creepin up on some incest ****
|
Lot had pretty beefy calves.
|
Didn't Lot get turned into a pillar of salt? Or was that his nephew?
|
I believe it was his wife.
|
christ, the guy gets raped by his daughters and then turned into salt? r.i.p. Lot :(
|
I'm gonna go wiki that sh*t!
Ok Lots wife got turned into a pillar of salt cause she looked back at the city of Sodom, of which they were told by God to leave and not look back. His daughters thought they were the only people left on earth so they got Dad drunk and had sex with him and both got knocked up so they could repopulate the earth. |
Think of how better christian metal would be if it told stories from the old testament instead of being like "praise jesus"
|
Biblical stories can be so unbelievably violent and overthetop, that's why I find them so fascinating.
|
The old testament god is pretty much a study in contrasts by comparison to the go of the new testament. The former is spiteful and vengeful, and the latter is loving and paternal.
The best contrast I can think of is in the old testament, god kills all but ~20 humans. In the new testament he kills his son to save all humans. |
It's interesting to look at how other Judeo-Christian religions look at the characters and people within their theology. How one religious text sees a man as a prophet while another sees him as a god while another omits much of what the other says about a person.

+1
Biblical stories can be so unbelievably violent and overthetop, that's why I find them so fascinating.
Some of the violence is so graphically described, it's worse than a Stephen King novel. Which is hilarious when you consider that that book is the cornerstone of a religion and that many Christian parents would not let their child read King but let them read the bible which is worse in some ways. |
What's quite possibly more intriguing is that all 3 believe in the same root religious texts (first 4 books), and yet have had more holy wars amongst themselves than between actually significantly religions.
|
That is unless they read the King James translation which is such a pain in the *** to get through that no one will be bothered to figure out what it's actually talking about.
What's quite possibly more intriguing is that all 3 believe in the same root religious texts (first 4 books), and yet have had more holy wars amongst themselves than between actually significantly religions.
Yes, that too. My favourite is the sort of cultural ignorance I see between militant Christians who somehow fail to realize that their God is the same God believed in by Muslims. |

Yes, that too. It's not like they read those passages in scripture. Well...it depends. Any christian sect that believes that the holy trinity=god don't really have the same god as the muslims. |
Well God as in the father is the same. But trinitarian (IE most) christians believe Jesus is God so they don't believe in quite the same God as muslims by their interpetation of things.
|
They believe in the same God they just believe he's manifested or represented in a different way. At least that was always my understanding of it.
|
Many Christians don't believe Jesus is merely a manifestation of God though.
|
Many Christians don't believe Jesus is merely a manifestation of God though.
Yes, I know. I'm not talking about the conceptual differences between a Holy Trinity and divine oneness, just that it's ultimately the same god and the same cast of people just with different interpretations on their existence and role. |
I was taught That God and Jesus are prettymuch the same person, so really the trinity is three variations of the same entity, IMO of course.
|
They believe in the same God they just believe he's manifested or represented in a different way. At least that was always my understanding of it.
But it really is a gross difference in god, because one believes that god came to earth to save humanity, and one believes a prophet who communicated with god came to preach good morality. Thus, one group believes god cared enough to sacrifice himself, in a sense, for humans. I'm not saying they should get their panties in a twist over it like they do, but there is a bit of a difference. edit: Right, all three parts of the holy triniy are all god. they are all one entity. |
this thread is getting to be a lot like punching myself in the balls
