Lots of jazz today:
Max Roach - We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane - Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings Miles Davis - The Complete Birth Of The Cool Plus a bunch of old live jazz videos featuring above artists among others on Youtube. I'm currently downloading a collection of Lee Morgan's 50's-60's albums (I have a few but have never managed to get some of the lesser known ones). Can't wait for it to finish, it's taken a while. |

She literally has the voice of an angel. No matter how many times I play that album it never ceases to amaze me. |
You mean leaked?
Kinda.... it was done being mastered, so Arts & Crafts made it available for purchase and digital download (eventhough the official release is Sept.). I bought it and have been listening to it since.... given the download was a zip of straight up mp3's, it "leaked" probably about 5 minutes after the first person bought it. it's really good. |
Sweet. I'll get my hands on that soon enough.
|
Sweet. I'll get my hands on that soon enough.
it's a great evolution of their sound, imo. Flecks of R&B, Broadway, Rock, and of course Stars brand of electronic-pop with male & female vocals... |
Today:
Interpol - Our Love to Admire Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist Justice - † Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch Zelionople - His/Hers |
Its short of amazing, but still good.

Blind Idiot God- Undertow
Fucking ahead of its time. This is post-rock in 1989. No surprise its on SST. |
SST had all the best stuff in the 80s. too band they were really bad at management :(
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion- Now I Got Worry |
I don't know how much cooler a band could possibly be: 1.On SST 2. Take their name from a Lovecraft story 3. Play awesome music.
Greg made some bad decisions for SST towards the end, but he basically invented indie rock. |
maybe if he wasnt high all the time he could have managed the label better, like MacKaye did with Dischord. i guess he really did have the straight edge!
|
Thats the thing. I can imagining him high going "Whoa.... these jazz fusions bands are AWESOME!. I think I'll sign them all on SST!".
And thats what happened |
whoa check this out
http://www.myspace.com/mouthbreathermp3 someone posted their band in the bass forum but as usual, they dont appreciate it! its just like an English punk band or whatever, but its pretty good for someone who also posts on MX |

Also been hearing/diggin' a lot of Ash Ra Tempel over the past few days. My flatmate is big on 'em, and it could be rubbing off.
Over the last few weeks I've been listening to them a lot. Have you heard their record with Timothy Leary? Its trippy as all hell. It kind sucked when they went electronic but those albums are done well. |
