He was being sarcastic.
kurrpt 05-11-2006 01:52 PM

Drone 05-11-2006 02:17 PM

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for Jambi? It seems to go nowhere at all.

JamJar 05-11-2006 02:18 PM

I would have to agree with you about Jambi. It's my least favourite on 10,000 Days.

kurrpt 05-11-2006 02:18 PM

honestly, i LOVE the end of that song, which makes it all worth it to me

"SHINE OOOONNN FOREVVVER SHINE OOOON BEN-EVOLENT SON"

<awesome guitar riffage>

come on now

Drone 05-11-2006 02:22 PM
I would have to agree with you about Jambi. It's my least favourite on 10,000 Days.
I like the semi-thrashy riff at the start, but I don't think it constitutes a verse riff. It sounds funny with Maynard singing over it. I like the talk box (I think) guitar solo, but the song is like 7 minutes of randomness to me. This song should have came later in the album, as I think it is a poor song to follow Vicarious, which I consider to be one of the best songs on the album. The rest of the album aside from Jambi is pretty ace, though.

Syncratic 05-11-2006 02:45 PM

Haha! It would be far too difficult to compile any list of the sort. And to be quite honest, there is no point as it would change far too easily.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 04:51 PM
Okay, take your very favourite song. Now, take out whatever vocals are in that song, and replace them with a baby squalling throughout the entire song. Do you still enjoy the song in spite of the new "vocals"?

Personally for me, nothing ruins a song more easily than really bad vocals, or a vocal style I just personally can't stand.
Yeah that's all I'm saying, I think growling is either for people who are trying to compensate for the fact either thier voice isn't good or they think it sounds "Hardcore" [Another kind of music I cannot stand.].

Have you ever listened to Opeth?

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 04:56 PM

Opiate- Jerk-Off
Undertow- Prison Sex
Aenima- Jimmy
Lateralus- Reflection
10,000 Days- Jambi, definetly possibly even both parts of Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 04:57 PM
Have you ever listened to Opeth?
Yeah, instumentaly amazing; Vocalist- Needing a swift kick to the mouth. Lol.
Yeah, instumentaly amazing; Vocalist- Needing a swift kick to the mouth. Lol.
Even his clean stuff? That's what I was talking about. He doesn't growl because he can't sing. He chooses to growl to get that more evil sound.
Yeah, instumentaly amazing; Vocalist- Needing a swift kick to the mouth. Lol.
??? He does both growling and clean, and his clean is objectively good.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:01 PM
Even his clean stuff? That's what I was talking about. He doesn't growl because he can't sing. He chooses to growl to get that more evil sound.
For sure, love the clean stuff. Love thier music, period. But don't you agree that growling gets old fast?

Moses 05-11-2006 05:02 PM

I like his growling better than his clean.

Darkness 05-11-2006 05:02 PM

No... no I don't.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:04 PM
No... no I don't.
Lol. Me either, that's why I like Tool, Maynard doesn't [hardly ever] scream. All of the "evil-ness" they need is in the lyrics alone.

Darkness 05-11-2006 05:04 PM

Sorry, I was replying to your comment. I don't get bored of growling.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:06 PM
Sorry, I was replying to your comment. I don't get bored of growling.
Haha. I guess it's just a matter of opinion. It's like trying to change someones opinion on abortion and religeon... Pointless. Lol.

Growling can have talent. There are good growlers and screamers.

Just because you don't like it, kiddo, dosn't mean it's not talented.

I will agree, however, that a good emotional clean voice gets me every time, and growling over every song can get repetitive in some bands.

Moses 05-11-2006 05:08 PM

Well, you can change poeple's opinions on political issues like abortion by demonstrating with valid facts and a strong arguement.

Talent is not a matter of opinion.

Darkness 05-11-2006 05:13 PM

 Just relax, he doesn't like it, leave it at that. Maybe it'll grow on him.

Moses 05-11-2006 05:15 PM

Yeah, well I'm just trying to point out that it can take talent to growl well. I'm pretty much the only one I know that can growl well.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:22 PM
Talent is not a matter of opinion.
Well I don't think you have to be talented to do it. Therefor it's a matter of opinion.

Otherside 05-11-2006 05:25 PM

So you're suggesting that Mikael Akerfeldt doens't have talent?

:\

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:25 PM

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows any bands that are Tool/APC like. {which don't scream}?

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:26 PM
So you're suggesting that Mikael Akerfeldt doens't have talent?

:\
Yes he has talent when using his real voice, but not when he growls.

Syncratic 05-11-2006 05:26 PM
Well I don't think you have to be talented to do it. Therefor it's a matter of opinion.
Okay, fine.

Scream/Growl you lungs out as hard as you can.

To lyrics.

Keep doing it for about three to five to possibly 21 minutes (listen to I by Meshuggah).

Now, go on a tour and do a set of about 11-12 songs where you keep doing that.

Yes, it takes talent.

Consider the other side of the situation, Sonny-Jim.

Otherside 05-11-2006 05:27 PM

That doesn't make any sense :/

Hell I stood in for one of our local bands and screamed for just about five minuetes, and was asked to be the second vocalist for the band. All I'm saying is it doesn't impress me one bit.

Syncratic 05-11-2006 05:33 PM

Okay, that's fine.

Still, it doesn't mean that it doesn't require talent.

AdventEnd 05-11-2006 05:34 PM
Okay, that's fine.

Syncratic 05-11-2006 05:35 PM

We're cool, then.

New discussion: How much 'The Pot' kicks ass and why.
We're cool, then.

Syncratic 05-11-2006 05:41 PM

The guitar riff is just so great.

I can't wait for this to be the next single, and what the clip will be like.
