Being drunk is fun when:
You're among other drunk people
You're hanging out with you're friends
You're playing drinking games
You're chilling at a beach
You just got off work
You just got off school
You're going to a sports event
You're going to a concert
The only thing really about Avenged Sevenfold WTF era is that unlike most/all American Metal bands, all of their songs don't sound exactly the same.
I'm not saying they're the same genre as all of those bands, because a lot of them differ a lot, I'm just saying they're a good example of what's in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal.

It's not a genre, it's a wave of bands that formed around the same time.

I mean, All That Remains and In Death We Rise basically play Gothenburg, whilest Trivium and Unearth play an extremely melodic form of post-thrash.

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:40 PM

All That Remains are a very boring and annoying band. How they got a record deal i don't actually know.

I agree completely, also;
Before going to a show/Being at a show (as long as you have a sober ride)

Getting stoned is most fun:
During school
At shows
When playing video games
When you're hiking
All That Remains are a very boring and annoying band. How they got a record deal i don't actually know.
I really like All That Remains, their music is pretty energetic, and Phil's higher range vocals are impressive.

EDIT: Phil's growling is horrible.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:41 PM

How you people get Gothenburg from all that remains is beyond me.......

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:44 PM

Me too.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:47 PM

Dark tranquility

All that remains

hmmmmmmmmm.... nope, ATR is definitely NOT gothenburg....

Stoic 03-26-2006 03:50 PM

no idea of how All That Remains sound like but maybe you'll hear some gothenburg if you compare them with Arch Enemy and not with Dark Tranquility...
I ALREADY MADE MY POINT YOU DOOF! Lyrics do not define a genre!!! It defeats the point of having music, and not just having everybody sing occapella!!!!
accapella retard

so basically what you are saying lyrics aren't a legitimate part of music.

Invalid friend ID, Make sure your links work arurcard.

i am the robots 03-26-2006 03:53 PM

Actually, I am wrong, they aren't really Gothenburg, they're whatever the hell Dimension Zero is... similar to Gothenburg, but some different twist.
accapella retard

so basically what you are saying lyrics aren't a legitimate part of music.
No dude, lyrics aren't the music, vocals are.

There's black metal bands like Behemoth (old stuff) who have songs about anti-Christianity, and then Hordez who have Christian lyrics.

Both bands are black metal though.

Lord Abortion 03-26-2006 03:55 PM
Hahaha, I like a lot of that stuff, but that tickled my funny bone.

I raise you with:

If that stuffs gay, then what the hell is Cradle of Filth?
Fun!

That's what they are...a band with intelligent, literate lyrics and a fair amount of musical ability, and alot of messing around and having a good time.
where people go wrong is assuming that cradle are even trying to be black metal...look at all the band member's influences on the website, it's Type O negative, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Dagnasty, Uniform Choice, the misfits, and Mercyful fate...lots and lots of Iron Maiden too.
Only here and there are Black metal bands listed as influences...A couple of Darkthrone, Carpathian forest and immortal references, but really, they're much closer to Mercyful fate and Iron Maiden than anything else.

I've always seen Cradle of Filth as a really good Gothic Metal band with a horrible singer, I just felt like dicking around :p.

Haha, I like Cradle of Filth (just not Dani's freaking vocals), I just wanted to dick around with you as I said before.

TojesDolan 03-26-2006 04:05 PM

I don't see what's people's problems with Dani's vocals, I think they are amazing, especially in "Lord Abortion", that's quite an impressive range of vocal styles.

Ahh, understood.

On Filth, he's got an impressive range, yes. But I just feel that he's quite sloppy with his delivery, his voice isn't harsh enough, there's not enough rasp, it reminds me of Phil Lebonte's (All That Remains) growling. It's especially noticable live.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 04:53 PM

Do you have to twist everything anybody says?????

Riva 03-26-2006 04:57 PM

I'm about to head off for Uni, even though the now lit interior of my house is quite cosy.

Lyrics can play quite a big role in defining a genre, especially in the case of Power Metal.

Ollie, why do you have to mispell your location. :(

Also, one of the advantages of being a mod is that you can read deleted threads.
Do you have to twist everything anybody says?????
No, Brian's just intelligent and is capable of picking out flaws in other people's arguements.

With that said, I still think he's wrong on his definitions for emo and metalcore.

Lord Abortion 03-26-2006 05:02 PM
Ollie, why do you have to mispell your location.
Because, and this may be concievably a disadvantage for an English student, I can't spell at all.

Is it authority I misspelled?

Riva 03-26-2006 05:03 PM

Yeah, be proud of your mother tongue.

Six Foot Revolver 03-26-2006 05:04 PM

I don't see any faults in the spelling =\.

Hang on...how do you spell it?
It's right both in a google search and in MSword.

Maybe he spells it funny because he's Australian.

Finally got around to watching Dog Soldiers. Fucking awesome! I was disappointed that Spoon got killed. He took on a werewolf with his bare hands!

Riva 03-26-2006 05:07 PM

I don't know then. I always assumed that it was spelt that way. I guess I've been misspelling my entire life. :(

Now it's got me thinking. Even after I'm finished with Scriptwriting class, I'm probably going to be messing with the script for Under the Moon right to the day we finish shooting.

Speaking of English students, I need to write a three page review of a non-fiction book today.

I'm seriously starting to believe my teacher is retarded.

How are you supposed to review history and facts?
I didn't really enjoy the part when President Jackson's brother died of smallpox when he was 13...

Also she didn't hand out a rubric or instructions for the review, and she was saying it's due sometime in the middle of the fourth marking period up until Friday when she decided it was due tommorrow out of nowhere.

With this being said I'll give her credit for not handing out the instructions and rubric because she has a site with a syllabus and student aids on it.

Scratch that, she doesn't deserve the credit, she had a site with that stuff on it, but she decided to get rid of everything on it and just have a slideshow of the students she's teaching, a slideshow with quite possibly the worst picture of myself I have ever seen in it.
